He turned to knob. The door creaked as it opened. He played his light inside, along the walls, and stepped back involuntarily. Bats. Hundreds of them hanging upside down from the walls, the ceiling. They stirred in the light, moved their wings, emitted little squeaks. One came from the ceiling, began to soar closer and closer, then came another and another. />
