This was a nice little forced marriage plot with an ultra evil Other Woman.

The heroine Sally isn’t a very nice person when we first meet her. She has run away from London because her boyfriend dumped her before she could get rid of him. She is a leader in her “set” and has been known to pursue and capture the interest of young men and then be bored almost immediately.

She meets the hero, Luke Vilis on the plane to the tropical island where her favourite uncle lives with his new wife. He is immediately disturbing, staring at her without the usual besotted interest she is used to.

Turns out favourite uncle has had a reversal of fortune and Luke is the only one who can help. He already has revenge in mind for Sally for stealing his step-sisters boyfriend but forcing her into marriage to teach her a few lessons is an interesting plot.

Naturally Sally matures as she falls in love. Evil other woman turns up, being Luke’s former mistress, now discarded. Stuff ensues.

Ending is satisfying.

I din't expect to like this one quite as much as I did. The first few pages and some of the reviews had prejudiced me against the heroine, Sally.

But in reality, I found her charming ! Flawed, flighty, self-absorbed - that's how she starts off. But Sally is not blind to her faults. Does most of the social butterfly things just out of habit, insecurity and lack of purpose in life.

A rowdy character she appears to be , when she lands on a distant island to visit her uncle. The only person the world whom is really cares about. But uncle dear is in great debt - to the hero, Luke, of course.

And Luke is hoping to exact payment. He already knows our girl Sally, and also about some of her exploits in London high society. He has his own grudge against her too...

When Sally lands up on the island, he cooks up the "exacting revenge though marriage" thing. Quite bizarre to think about in real life. But great fun to read as a fantasy romance !

Then the Stockholm syndrome theme plays out. Sally falls for her captor husband. But not without reason or sense. Luke is a genuinely likeable guy.

Sally mellows down , discovers her real love for her uncle, her care and concern for Luke, her inner need for a secure life, her search for a purpose in life...

Not to say, she sobers down. Nope, she fights all the way, but also loves him and cares for him when he meets with an accident.

He does the unpardonable, once. The first time they DO IT, he whispers the name of his dead wife. A sweet girl who dies within 10 days of marriage. Now that's a shock which Sally is unable to get over, until the end.

Finally of course, Luke makes it abundantly clear about his love for Sally. But until then there is a lot of verbal fencing and passionate loving between the two. Just the recipe for a fun read , I'd say!

Some really nice character development in a short space. Heroine is the Paris Hilton of her London set. She's not at all likeable, but she's rich and beautiful. When she is dumped by her bf, she pretends she jilted him and goes off to her recently married uncle who lives on a small island in the Indian Ocean. Uncle has just married a 24 year-old and auntie hates heroine on sight.

Meanwhile, the handsome man on the plane who had glowered at her, is devising a punishment/revenge for our spoiled heroine. Seems she stole his sister's fiance and sister had a nervous breakdown. Heroine barely remembers and is defensive when hero confronts her (after tricking her on to one of his private islands).

After a punishing kiss, her0 decides heroine would be better suited as his wife for a year than as slave labor. Heroine agrees because hero will let her uncle have his villa back (he lost it in a card game at hero's casino). They marry and have a memorable honeymoon where the heroine bests the hero's OW who had stalked them there.

I won't go into all the details, but H/h get closer after that encounter - and then again when hero saves heroine from the OW and is injured in the process. The plot is insane and heroine thinks hero only cares because she looks like his first wife. This humbles her more than anything. Hero is always cranky but he turns off the cruelty by the middle of the story.

I also liked that the very capable heroine was his right hand in business after he was injured. This is the correct channeling of rich b*tch energy.

See the island of dreams," they urged

And Sally Herrick, recently arrived on another Indian Ocean island, was intrigued enough to go. It was a turning point in her life.

Spoiled, rich and used to having her own way, she came face to face with Luke Ulis, a hard, calculating man seeking revenge for the harm she had thoughtlessly done his sister.

His demand that she marry him was madness. Yet Sally soon discovered that she was in no position to refuse!

I absolutely loathe Stockholm Syndrome stories, even when the MFC is an unpleasant character. This doormat is spoiled, useless and weak, not only making no attempts to escape (how about lighting the place up in flames?) but feebly agreeing to marry the repulsive MMC. She even turns a blind eye when he calls out another woman's name during sex. Just no.

Liked the story more than I expected. But I could not see how and when H fell in love with h when he said he loved his ex wife so much that he cared no other women even on their honeymoon. He had his ex wife in mind when they were in bed. An interesting story with a not satisfactory ending.
