As far as parenting books go, I thought it was useful. Most of the techniques they recommend seem pretty easy to use, and I’ve already seen positive results at home with the “Name, do X now, please,” and “wait and hold” techniques. They work in my HS classroom, too - BONUS!
Of all the parenting books I've read, this is the first one that "worked" in that I didn't have to distill and adapt the content – I was able to use the advice straight out of the book. It also works in that we've seen positive change in our son.
Unlike other books that focus on one strategy and how to apply that strategy in multiple areas of parenting, this book tackles multiple facets of family life and multiple strategies to form a holistic plan for "Raising Cooperative Kids."
I skimmed all through this book and felt it could be helpful to new parents with common sense and practical advise. I loved how it focuses in on positve family living. This was a gift to someone close to me who will be new parents and they were happy to get a book that complimented their natural style of parenting.
As with all parenting books, I took what I liked and left what I didn’t. The strategies for reward systems were exactly what I needed and I’ve successfully implemented them with my Spirited 4 year old with great success.
Quick review: I think that this book had a lot of great ideas for parents who are trying to do the gentle parenting method. It didn't quite fit my needs as my children are too young to respond to them but I definitely plan to try some of the ideas here in the future.
