The Kiosk on the Brink

Rate this book
A sheer drop, a road winding round a volcano, a piece of earth subject to tremors--these are the characteristic sites for the poems in this book, often on the eve of, or in the aftermath of catastrophe. The poems thread their way through this precarious landscape with the humour, curiosity,
and great agility that has become the hallmark of McKendrick's poetry.

Some wonderful, Stygian imagery mixed with fire. If you're a volcanologist looking for a poem you'll find plenty in this book. The poems read like Dante has met the mob. I liked it but some of poems were so dense I couldn't get my head all the way around them. My failing rather than the author's.
