Operation Fit-ish

Rate this book
What’s a comic book nerd to do when she’s dumped by her not-quite-a-superhero fiancé just weeks before the wedding? Tempting as it is to drown her sorrows in ice-cream, Dakota decides that maybe she’ll keep that appointment with the personal trainer who was going to help her squeeze into her dress after all.

She soon realizes that while she’s not quite ready to ditch her Avengers T-shirt for a Spandex crop top just yet, being at the gym does have some perks. Like semi-stalking Zane, the cute blond guy who looks a lot like Thor…

But while Zane may not be a Norse god, he does have a secret. One that brings him closer to Dakota, and brings Dakota closer to danger.

Is Zane the superhero she’s been waiting for her whole life? Will he swoop in and save the day? Or is he the villain whose superpower is the ability to break her heart?

Operation Fit-ish is a full-length STANDALONE with no cliffhanger.

Shannon is a born and raised Texan. She grew up inventing clever stories, usually to get herself out of trouble. Her mother was not amused. In junior high, she began writing fractured fairy tales from the villain's point of view and that was the moment she knew that she was going to use her powers for evil instead of good.

In 2003, she moved to Denver and met the love of her life. After some relentless stalking and a few well-timed sarcastic remarks, the man eventually gave in to her charms and wifed her so hard. They welcomed a son in 2007 that they named after their favorite Marvel superhero, Spiderman.

Sick of seeing beautiful mountains through their window every day, the three escaped back to the desolate landscape of the west Texas desert in 2009. She welcomed her second son not long after and soon realized that being surrounded by three men was nothing at all like she'd imagined in her fantasies.

After an unplanned surgery in 2014 and a long pity party, she decided to pen a novel about the worst thing that could happen to a person in order to cheer herself up. She's twisted like that. Thus, From This Day Forward was born and the rest, as they say, is history.

Not only does Shannon enjoy stalking people, she also has a fondness for being stalked. Visit her at www.shannonshaemyers.com to keep up with her latest schemes and shenanigans.

3 ⭐⭐⭐ - OK decent reads.
=======================

“It’s about the wedding—yeah, I can’t do this.”

He dabs at the corner of his mouth with a napkin. “It’s not that—it’s you. I mean look at you,” He waves his hand at me, still chewing. “You’ve let yourself go, Dakota,”

He ignores me and continues, “I just don’t want to carry on with this charade anymore. The Blake name carries a lot of weight in this town, and let’s be honest here, you aren’t Blake material.”

You’ve never been to college and let’s face it—you’re never going to be anything more than an overweight girl who is content spending her days working retail and her nights burying her nose in a comic book.”

Dumped. Four weeks before my wedding.

No matter how much I screw up or disappoint Nan, Kate is always there to bail me out.

This book! I feel like someone jumped in my head and wrote a love story with comic book characters! I freaking loved everything about this book! I found myself so sucked in by this story that I didn't want it to end. So where to start...Dakota is just your normal average girl! If only normal average girls loved comic books and all things superheroes! After he jerk of a fiancé calls of their engagement and says some pretty harsh things to Dakota she decides it's time to get in shape! Here is where we get to meet the Big Guy! Or Thor or Zane...any of the above work! There's instant chemistry and so begins the hilariousness that is Cap and the big guy!

This story is funny, it's honest, it's sad in parts and it makes you feel! I totally related with Dakota! The feelings she has, her thoughts on things, and of course her love of all things Marvel! I couldn't have asked for a better marriage of two of my favorite things, romance books and comic books! Even if you know nothing about comics this book is still an amazing book! It's beautifully written and fun to read! I've never read anything by Shannon Myers but I can guarantee I will be from now on! I can't wait to see what happens with Dakota and Zane! I'm hoping and praying there will be more from these two hilarious characters!

5 stars! Must read romantic comedy<3

I already know I won't be able to get over this book anytime soon. I absolutely LOVED it so much!

This book was definitely an unexpected gem<3 the blurb doesn't give away what the actual story is about which I loved. Totally unexpected, but in the best way possible!

Right from the prologue it had me cracking up. It had me turning pages non-stop and swooning over Zane and loving Dakota's quirkiness. She was simply adorable and he was definitely lovable as well!

It had everything I love in books: age gaps (she's 22, he's 31), raw sex, babies, forbidden..ish (but without the drama), memorable characters.

Shannon's effortless writing makes me want to read the rest of her books asap! This book is definitely one I will re-read again and again in the future! I can't wait for Kate and Nate's book!

Dakota is definitely my kind of girl. Quirky, funny and a bit crazy once she gets her self-confidence back. I loved how she slowly rebuilt herself and grew in to her own person after trying so hard to please her fiancé and her grandma.

And Zane was such a good counterpart. I didn't agree with everything he did or said but I understand his reasons. His dilemma over doing his duty and seeing where his attraction towards Dakota could go was palpable and made him kind of vulnerable.

All the characters had a role to play and I know there's still a lot we don't know, especially regarding Nan and Grey. I'm really excited about knowing more about their motives. Also this bonus chapter was such a teaser. It was my first book by Shannon Myers and I sure did enjoy it.

Comedy, with a side of action

Cap is a clumsy comic reading chick with lots of spirit. She captured me in the 1st pages. Her Thor is sweet and has his own funny moments. Some twists and turns but a HEA with no cheating

It was a light, cute, fast read. I chuckled a couple of times while reading. I enjoyed the nerdy comic book reading chick. And the way she curses...just wonderful

4 “AVENGERS ASSEMBLED” STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“S’always been you, baby. Since the moment you wanted to work your Quad-Ry-Ceps… I said to myself, ‘Self, you marry that girl.’”

Oh my god. I am so in love with this book. People who know me know that I have a soft spot for quirky heroines and Dakota really fits the bill. I don’t know how many times I laughed out loud at her antics. She’s so entertaining—I kind of want to be her best friend.

And our resident Thor, Zane. *cues sighs* Couldn’t he be any more perfect? I am almost jealous of Dakota. Sure there were times while I was reading that I just wanted to knock his head off for being oblivious. But he sincerely just wants the best for Dakota. The best book boyfriend. Ever.

Overall the book was enjoyable. I didn’t like Kate enough to read her book but I will definitely check other books by this author. As for this one, I recommend this book to all Marvel / Comic fans out there. You’ll love this one.

Operation Fit-ish is a refreshingly witty and unique book, by Shannon Myers. Ms. Myers has infused it with passion, romance, villainy, mystery, action and suspense.
Dakota Mae Quinn is a quirky, curvy 22 year old; who has a passion for comic books and superhero T-Shirts. Dakota’s pride and joy, and most valuable possession- is the sizeable comic book collection that she has been lovingly accumulating for the past 16 years.
For as long as she can remember, she has fantasized about superheros, about having superhero powers and ultimately having her very own superhero soul-mate. She thinks she has found him, but her Fiancé shatters her dream by dumping her four weeks before they are due to get married.
Heartbroken, Dakota decides to take charge of her life and make some changes- starting with joining a gym to get fitter. Her first day at the gym, she literally runs into THOR, well the guy looks just like him, really. So tall, strong, long blonde hair, blue eyes and oh, that smile!
Zane Masterson is 31 years old and is working at the gym as a fitness instructor. In true comic book style, he has a secret identity- he is a police officer who has been placed at the gym undercover, to try and uncover and apprehend a drug trafficking ring. He takes his job very seriously; he is at the gym to do an investigation- not fall for a civilian, no matter how cute she is!
The overwhelming attraction that Zane and Dakota experience has them falling hard for one another- Zane attempts to remain professional and desperately tries to resist the temptation that is right in front of him- but ultimately his efforts are futile and they both give in to their urges.
Dakota is a bit of a klutz, her clumsiness is constantly getting her into trouble and Zane always seems to be there to witness it! So when her sister asks for a picture of the hunky THOR lookalike, to see what Dakota has been raving about; Dakota’s mission turns more stalker-ish, than skilful. It also gains the attention of Zane and the other undercover officers- this coincides with a string of other events that result in Dakota becoming the prime suspect in the investigation. Everything she does seems to implicate her further! She seems innocent and Naïve, but is she really a criminal mastermind?
Suspicious things start to happen that at first seem merely bothersome, but as the story unfolds we learn how incredibly dangerous and life threatening they are.
Can Zane protect Dakota? Are his feelings real, or was he just doing his job? What happens when Dakota finds out his true identity? Who is the real head of the drug ring?
I can’t begin to explain how fantastic this book is, and no one is more surprised than me! I was really dubious about reading it; the blurb and the cover really didn’t appeal to me and I felt that they don’t do the book any justice, at all. But, curiosity got the better of me; as the quirky title of the book sucked me in and made me want to find out more. The story is way better than I could have hoped for!
Ms. Myers skillfully crafted an original storyline, wrote unforgettably wonderful characters- that were individual, easy to like (or despise, in the case of the bad guy), were well thought out and fully developed.
I had an immediate connection to both the story and the characters. Reading this story was a joy, so easy- I was completely engrossed in it and was thoroughly entertained.
The story is light hearted, hilarious, tender, sweet, adorable and suspenseful, all rolled into one- and so very clever. There are so many funny quips, superhero and comic book Fandom references, that I just loved.
The book is a fast read, a standalone and has a H.E.A.
I will definitely be reading more of Ms. Myer’s work! She is truly inspired!
This is a truly Marvel-ous Book!

All reviews and other fun stuff on the Romance Rehab blog: http://www.romancerehab.com/

After not finishing Operation Annulment, I decided to give the author another chance because I had a bad cold when I was doing that review, and I was super grumpy. (Hard to imagine, right? I’m usually such a ray of pure sunshine) So, I read Through the Woods when I was healthy again, and enjoyed it much more than Operation Annulment. Then, with the cold virus from hell well and truly behind me, I picked up Operation Fit-ish and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Mostly.

First, the stuff I loved:

1. Dakota is a much different character than her sister, Kate from Operation Annulment. I found Kate to be a real stick-up-butt type. But Dakota is much more of a free spirit. She’s nerdy and proud, and when her jackass boyfriend dumps her in a totally rude and crude way, she allows herself only one evening of wallowing before picking herself up and going to the gym to get in shape, not for a man, but for herself. Kudos, Dakota. Kudos.

2. I, like Dakota, am a huge Thor fan. Not really the comic book Thor, but the Chris Hemsworth version. He’s yummy. So, in my head while reading, Zane looked just like Chris Hemsworth, which is NEVER a bad thing.

3. The author has a nice, easy, flowing writing style that very quickly sucks you in and makes you feel like part of the world she’s created. You feel for Dakota and want to see her win. I give the author major credit for that. I’ve read plenty of books that were technically well-written, but that I just couldn’t seem to get invested enough in to finish reading. I was definitely invested in Dakota and Zane’s story.

4. Dialogue is cute and funny. Side characters are interesting, but also didn’t overpower the main characters.

5. I love that Dakota is a nerd. She wears superhero T-shirts and is part of a comic book club. It would’ve been easy for the author to also make her an awkward introvert, too, but she didn’t go the obvious cliche route with Dakota, which I really appreciated.

Now, for the stuff that I didn’t really care for:

1. Dakota makes a really huge assumption about Zane’s, um, experience with women that I thought was absolutely ridiculous. I would’ve jumped to a hundred other conclusions before I even THOUGHT of that one. (Yes, I’m being vague. I don’t want to spoil anything)

2. Zane resists getting physical for a long time with Dakota, and for good reason. When he finally caves (and we all knew he would, because, hey, this is a romance), it’s when Dakota is drunk. For a guy who had been so upstanding for so long, this seemed like an odd choice to me. Why not at least wait until she’s sober, dude? AND it was unprotected sex because he “assumed” she was on the pill “or something.” There was never a conversation about birth control or disease prevention between the two of them, so I have no idea why he’d assume something like that. The whole thing just irked the crap out of me, especially when Dakota panicked the day after they had sex when realizing he hadn’t used anything. (Or even asked her if he should)

3. Dakota puts herself in mortal danger not once but TWICE by trusting her ex. The ex gave no indication at ANY point in the story that he was trustworthy. Both incidences made Dakota seem TSTL, which is a shame, because she hadn’t been up until that point in the story.

Long-story-short, this is a cute romantic comedy with a relatable heroine who is far from a typical, “cookie cutter” heroine. Is the story perfect? No. Few are. Is it worth a read? Yep. I think so.

Operation Fit-Ish by Shannon Myers a spectacularly fit for a super hero five-star read. This is a stand-alone novel that has a HAE and no cliff hanger, however some of the characters have been seen before in the from this day forward series, and we will see more of those according to the author after this book. I can’t wait and I can only hope we see more of Dakota and Zane and the gang.
The main character is Dakota Mae a curvy 22-year-old who lives comic books, she has been collecting them for years, she dreams of being Pepper Potts to her fiancé Jackson Blake’s Iron Man, only 4 weeks before the wedding he dumps her, as she isn’t Blake material and she’s let herself go. She works retail and enjoys comic books in the evening and this means Jackson doesn’t think she is suitable anymore. Dakota has already signed up to the Gym and in doing so she gets 4 weeks with a personal trainer, and despite not feeling up for it her sister Kate makes her promise that she will go the next morning to her induction. As Dakota has always done what other people say and always keeps to her promises, she goes and meets her personal trainer Kyle, and she has some choice words about him, as Kyle is more interested in meeting hot women that training her, probably because he’s an undercover cop. Kyle causes all sorts of problems, like causing her to fall off the treadmill and embarrassingly Thor comes to the rescue. Thor is actually Zane who she thinks works in the gym as well but he is also an undercover cop. After some misunderstanding where she tries to subtly take a picture of him to send to her sister to show her this hot Thor look alike that she starts to call Big Guy for obvious reasons. As Dakota is so clumsy taking the photo he gets suspicious of her and thinks she is the drug dealer they are looking for, que some of the most hilariously funny stories I have read in ages.
Zane has always stuck by the rules and when he is told to cosy up to Dakota to get some more info out of her he feels conflicted as he starts to fall for his Dakota who he calls Cap, as she was wearing a Captain America T-Shirt the first few times he sees her. Que even more hilarious stories and you have the makings of a really funny, laugh out loud book. This is the first book by Shannon Myers and its definitely not going to be the last.

Operation Fit-ish is a comic book nerd’s dream of a romantic comedy. Myers has created a twisted romantic tale loaded with suspense, humor, and just enough comic book references that is might just be the perfect triple threat combinations. It’s got the POW! with the gritty action with Zane’s career and the BAM! with the chemistry between these two characters.

The female lead for this book, Dakota, is relatable to the everyday woman. She’s not a supermodel, isn’t stick thing, and of course, she’s a comic book nerd. That right there is enough to make this book an easy one click trigger for me. There are not enough books out there that feature nerdy girls for my tastes. Zane, the male lead, is a bit alpha male, but he has a softer side to him. He tries so hard not to fall for Dakota, but he fails miserably. One of the best things about this book is the internal banter with both of these characters. It’s been a long time since a book literally made me laugh out loud, which wasn’t exactly a good thing since I was trying to read this literary comedic gem on the sly at work.

Now, Ms. Myers, all I need to know is when do we get the next one?
Oh, and PS. MARVEL ALL THE WAY! #TEAMTHOR

***** 5 Cranky Stars *****

Dakota loves her family and her comic book collection. She's awkward and clumsy and uses swear words like "What the French Toast!" And "Biscuits and Gravy!"

Zane aka Thor, God of Thunder is undercover trying to take down a drug trafficking ring. He's six and a half feet of solid muscle and only weak when it comes to Dakota. She had his heart when she bumped into him and said "Avengers Assemble!"

Now that Dakota is single and has found her very own superhero, can they make a go of it?

I loved this book from page one and had to read it twice just to make sure I didn't miss anything. This author takes you on a wild ride pulling at your heartstrings one minute and the next laughing so hard your crying.

I highly recommend this book and look forward to the next. I'll be stalking this author for sure.

Holy nedrgasm, Batman!
Although Dakota would beat me for referencing the DC universe, that is the best opening i could come up with, and it kind of fits. When retail worker and comic nerd, Dakota gets dumped by her fiance, her world crashes down. Between crappy training sessions at the gym she joined to prep for her wedding, cancelling a wedding, and work issues, the only good thing in her day is seeing Thor at the gym. Zane is a dead ringer for the Norse god and Dakota's nerdy fantasy man, until he isnt really a fantasy anymore. But things are not what they seem and there are secrets, lots and lots of secrets. From her ex-fiance to her own family, nothing in Dakota's life is what it seemed, except Zane. Right?
I loved loved loved this book! (Maybe I should say it one more time) The witty banter and internal dialogue mixed with a crazy enthralling plot and some amazing characters makes this one of my top reads this year. Zane is totally hot and sexy while still being swoon worthy. And Dakota is a badass chick wrapped in a nerdy package. How could it get any better?
Avengers, Assemble! And go read this book!

This book was recommended for me to read and boy oh boy am I happy about that. I am not sure that I would have found it without that recommendation. I am a HUGE comic book nerd. My son is even named Storm (even though Storm was female in the X-Men- still it is a more masculine name). From the beginning I was sucked into this book. I laughed out loud numerous times. I cannot recommend this book enough. The writing style, the characters, the humor, and the story were AWESOME! I want- no, I NEED people to discover this great writer!

Cap and Big Guy

I love how "normal" Dakota is. She's a comic book lover, she loves her fried chicken and she loves her family....well maybe Pops and Kate more than others. I love that she's clumsy and doesn't take herself too seriously. She sounds like the perfect girlfriend.
Then there's Zane....a Thor look-alike. Ooooh, imagine all the wagging tongues.
These two were very funny and cute together. The definitely complimented each other which made their attraction sexier.

I don’t even know where to start. This book and this theme shouldn’t work but boy does it ever. I grinned so much reading it, even during what should have been serious action scenes. This was a fun book to read and explained a lot about some of the characters in the other books I read, which i really needed. Maybe it’s my kinship of Thor love that made this book so much fun. I’ll leave this review with my favorite line “ Avengers Assemble”!

Cute

This was sweet, but dry. An afternoon read that is kinda charming, though it lacks the substance to make it great.

I liked the FMC, as she’s written in such a way that most will relate to her (bit over weight, kinda geeky) - yet the details of the mystery don’t quite add up.... nor does that actual story. It felt like the narrative stumbled all over the place while introducing side characters that are vapid or one dimensional.

If you are looking for something to pass an hour and make you smile, this is your story.

Perspective:
First Person, multiple POV

Ending Type:
HEA

Rating:
Adult

Romantic Dynamic:
M/F

Taboos?
None

Character Age Range:
22+

My Final Verdict on Operation Fit-ish

Sweet, if bland, this is a simple romance that won't stress the brain - and that seems to be the whole point. It's meant to be enjoyed, not dissected, presenting a rather charming HEA that will make you smile.

This whole MC series has pretty good reviews and it's been on the TBR a few years. Felt like something light hearted but also a nice long series I can get caught up in!!! There are a few different versions of series order but I always find it best to read how the author wrote it - so here is the book 1.

In my opinion this book had the same type of style as the old Stephanie Plum series, or even Kristin Ashley's Rock Chicks. Story that is centered around cops and civilians, friends, the bad guys, romance with a side of comedy. Some over the top funny shooting situations, etc, etc. Not my most favorite style so I was somewhat into it, but also one of those books you could easily put down. But I was intrigued enough to want to pick up book 2, which involves the sister of the Main character and you see it developing in this book.

I'll be looking into Shannon Myers' other works, ASAP. This book was fun, funny, sexy, exciting and had twists I was definitely not expecting. I feel like it blended a lot of very specific genres and did it well!

Dakota is feisty, irreverent and in touch with who she is. These qualities get cloudy from time to time, but she's a badass and I love her. Her sister Kate is just as loveable. The recipe here seems too complicated - a painful parental past, domineering grandmother, sexy gym patron and terrible ex-fiance plus some added surprise twists - but it works!

Read for the nerd humor, read for the dialogue, read for the descriptions of Zane, but definitely read it!

I really enjoyed this book, its the first book of Shannon's i've read and i'm happy to say it won't be the last ( operation Annulment is already on my Kindle ready to start)

This book had all the feels, and i loved Dakota and Zane, her in all her clumsy comic book loving glory (Go Team Marvel) and him trying desperately to convince himself to ignore the feelings and do the job. *Swoon

I've laughed, i've cried, Ive swooned and melted, i've been angry and sad and ecstaticlly happy. What a ride.

Looking forward to the next one. *powers up kindle

I got this book and didn’t read it right away. I read the description and thought it sounded decent. I kept looking at it thinking I would get to reading it finally. If you have it, then don’t wait.
