Angel's Nightmare Adventures is a short story divided into two very different perspectives. Just imagine if New York City is invaded by zombies and two regular joes must survive the survival horror. One of the people is Angel, a seventeen-year-old H.S. student getting ready for an oral operation. Follow Angel in the first short story as he tries to survive and escape from a hospital where he is supposed to be undergoing oral surgery. Angel will find out that the hospital contains more secrets than meets the eye! The other is Luis a career criminal turned good and decided to get into the police force. Follow Luis in the second story as he is on his first day of duty as a police officer of the NYPD, only to end up in a mansion trying to survive and find any survivors. He is with his partners in crime, but can Luis trust his own friends and will Angel and Luis ever cross paths? A company called the Hybrid Corporation is responsible for making chemicals used in hospitals however, they’ve had a checkered past and haven't necessary been the most truthful of people. Is this zombie invasion a natural occurrence or is there a secret NWO plot hidden within the mayhem and is the Hybrid Corporation involved? What will Angel and Luis have to endure and uncover as they experience the invasion of zombies in New York City? Only one way to find out! Are you ready to get scared, if so read on! Prepare for an adventure with many twists and turns as both Angel and Luis face some of their biggest fears. Also, anything that can go wrong will go wrong! Trust us zombies are only the beginning. Prepare for a survival horror adventure where anything is possible and regular animals such as frogs and spiders become your worse nightmare. One piece of advice, don’t read this book in the dark, you may suffer from nightmares! Enjoy the ride!
Those who have already read some of Angel Ramon's work (The Thousand Years War: The Trilogy and Janus: The Devil's Election) will undoubtedly expect in Angel's Nightmare Adventure short story the same amount of action and monster-mutants creatures. And they will be right. Angel invaded New York City with zombies and mutant-iguana-snake-spider-and-human-like creatures that crawled out of the Hybrid Corporation laboratories.
Angel's Nightmare Adventure is a story told from two different perspectives so it rather seems as two stories instead of one. The first part is about a teenager Angel who is getting ready for an oral operation and ends up in the hospital where he is chased by zombies and other nightmarish creatures, while the second part is about Louis, an NYPD officer who is stuck in a mansion in his search for survivors.
It is interesting to see how the author merges these two stories into one and, what I like in particular , a surprising end at the moment we think we figured it all out!
I would prefer that the author built the whole nightmare adventure on the zombies only, but monster-mutant-like creatures worked too in this laboratory induced combination of characters. This way the lovers of zombie and horror stories will both have their moments of pleasure and needed dozes of scare!
I am scoring this 3.5 but will round up to 4. If you enjoy playing zombie games and like how the interaction goes with these, then you will find this book is right up your street. I've only ever played Save the World as the other zombie games freak me out lol. I do think the descriptions are fairly basic and there are small editing issues, but you tend to visualize as a game and should just take it for what the author is trying to do here.
Angel's Nightmare Adventure is actually a pair of short stories, chronicling a (possible) zombie outbreak in New York City. The first short features Angel, a high school student going in for surgery. After awakening from anesthesia he finds himself in a now-deserted hospital full of zombified patients, staff, and a few Zombie-frogs & spiders just for variety. The second short, running on a tandem timeline, features rookie cop Luis as he's sent to investigate a strange death in a mansion owned by the mysterious Hybrid Corporation.
I try to avoid commenting on editing on my reviews, but this book is sorely in need of major revisions. Misspelled words, incorrect punctuation, and text that changes from present tense to past tense and back again within the same sentence... it was too much to ignore. The story's content was fairly predictable for a zombie apocalypse survival, but I do give the author props for a fun twist at the end of each story. If you're a fan of zombie video games, this little book will likely be right up your alley.
This story is actually two in one and they're fast paced and written pretty well. There is a few typos and repeated words, but not too many to annoy you though.
These two short stories are basically two sides of a coin. I like the idea of a story being told from two (or more) viewpoints. Angel is at the hospital to have surgery when the Zompoc hits. Luis is starting his new job as a policeman at NYPD. Each of our protagonists tells the tale of their encounters with zombies and other creatures in their own way.
I have to say that this was more a verbal telling of a video game than a story. For those of us who remember the "old school" games, you will recognize a lot of them. I could easily pick out Frogger, Mario Brothers, Princess of Zelda and more. This was an interesting way to tell a story, but it made for a difficult read at times.
Also, as other reviews have pointed out, the editing could use some work. I have a hard time reading a book with a lot of grammatical and punctuation errors without having it interfere with my enjoyment of the book.
Mr. Medina is a great storyteller and I will definitely look for more books that he has written. I would only recommend this one for diehard zombie fans or diehard video game players.
I love the style, these stories pull me in and move me through their tense worlds, filled with the horror tinged gamer world, finishing always leaves me wanting more. Kudos.
Angel Ramon is definitely a storyteller who will take you on a quick drive into two entertaining versions of a thrilling Zombie outbreak. This author‘s writing definitely creates that suspenseful thrill that readers love. This author is one to keep up with, especially those who love mystery and horror and of course Zombies. Both versions are intense and thrilling and each carried well from beginning to end…Highly recommended
If interested in zombies and the interesting world of encountering them in a way that is not expected or hard to believe, then this is an amazing story for anyone to read. Definitely a page turner that will keep you wanting to read the next chapter until you are completely done.
Anyone who knows me will tell you I really really love the zombie genre- I have even written a zombie story or three myself- so I was excited to snap up this zombie tale. It's very fast moving, and jam packed with action and fights. It has some unusual creatures caused by the mutation as well, which is a nice twist. I found myself feeling like I was watching a video game as the story progressed, which made the whole thing feel very multi media and refreshing. Would benefit from a further edit. Loved the two story viewpoint.
If you're looking for a quick, entertaining read on a road trip or a long bus ride home, Angel's Nightmare Adventure is for you. These stories have it all: badass damsels, zombies, spiders, scorpions, even frogs deadly in a way you'd never expect. I wished the story would slow down long enough to learn a little bit of how the main characters tick, but who has time for soliloquies on a roller coaster? Just enjoy the ride.
Angel was nervous about the operation to correct his overbite. He wanted to impress Tiffany, a girl in his school, but the pain from the operation is not his concern. It was a fear stemmed from the video game he has been playing into the early hours of the morning. Zombies had invaded a hospital, and in the game he stalked the corridors killing them. Perhaps it wasn't the best thing to do before going for surgery, then again, if he hadn't perhaps he wouldn't have been as prepared for the situation he faced. He awakes on the bed, the operation had not even been started, and everyone was dead. But they weren't just dead, they were undead, and it's not just people who have turned.
There's also the added bonus of Luis' story, but I didn't want to risk disclosing all.
A quick read written in the present tense, it reminds me a lot of levels from the old House of the Dead arcade games that I lost many hours and pounds to growing up with, as well as including a touch of Resident Evil. It was a fun, mindless read that appealed to the gamer in me, things like finding ammo in lockers and solving puzzles to gain access to rooms etc never failed to make me smile. I'll be honest, if you're looking for an atmospheric, disturbing, real to life zombie survival story then this isn't what you're after, but if you're after a gaming, fan fiction version that doesn't take itself seriously you'll really enjoy this.
First of all, I loved the concept of this story: if you ever played a video game, this is exactly how it reads. Following Angel, a young patient of the clinic that became ridden with zombies while he was under anesthesia, we rapidly move from one location to another while killing off not only zombies but freaky mutants as well. The story is told from the point of view of two different protagonists: Angel, and a rookie cop Luis, who has to deal with the zombie apocalypse on his very first day at work. The second part was just as dynamic as the first one and explained a great deal about the sinister company - the Hybrid Corporation, which was responsible for the chaos reigning the streets. If you’re a fan of Resident Evil, this story will definitely be a perfect read for you. Recommended to fans of horror and thriller genre.
Two short stories - two different views - one plot.
An interesting idea to look at the same plot two ways.
Angel is about to have surgery, but is nervous about the hospital after playing a zombie video game - the staff convince him it is safe - except when he wakes up he is living his worst nightmare.
It's Luis' first day on the job as a city cop - what a time for a zombie & mutant apocalypse.
I like the idea behind this two-in-one story, however it lacks a certain fright level to be a true horror. It reads more like a bad day turns worse scenario. Aspects of the LitRPG, thriller and dystopian genres, it is an original read. A little more character development would have made a big difference.
First off, I’m a huge horror and Resident Evil fan, so I was looking forward to reading this. I have to say, it is nearly a direct reimaging of the video game. That’s a good and bad thing.
It’s a good thing in that it’s familiar and that makes it easier to get lost in the story, but it’s also bad in that it follows the same/similar pathways as the games. The saving grace with this is there are some variances to the plot, but not enough for it to be fresh for me. I think it’s important to point out this is only my opinion, and yours may be completely different.
In the end, it was nice revisiting an old favorite, even if it was through a different medium.
These two short stories (or one story from 2 points of view) read like one of two things either the planing draft for a longer story or the commentary someone might give to a blind person who was watching a video game run through.
There is a strong homage to Resident Evil, especially with guns and ammo just being in places they shouldn’t. Which is why it gives the vibe of a video game description.
Plus I saw the end coming from almost the beginning so I didn’t get that pay off.
This style might work for some but for me it didn't, I would prefer to read a longer version of this where it has been fleshed out and sounds less like a play by play and more like a story.
The story was ok, however , the proofreader must have been illiterate. Sentences ran together, some ended where they shouldn't, punctuation often senseless. Too often the phrase "could care less" was erroneously used instead of the phrase " couldn't care less". The ending left much to be desired. Three star rating is being generous..
This was just bad. The main character is someone who likes a girl and states he has to, "get his hands on her," and "get rid of her current boyfriend."
If that wasn't bad enough, the rest of the book reads like it's a play by play of a knock off version of Resident Evil. It was just so bad that I got 20% in and said I can't do this anymore and quit reading.
I was hoping I would love this series like I do with fifth survivor. But it wasn't. It didn't seen it as gamelit read at all but for weapons and ammunition. Just didn't have game mode to it. Was very disappointed with it. Also need more editing. Sorry 😕
I liked the way the author showed the two different sides or viewpoints to the story, it added more depth. Man, this book had it all, it was amazing to see what he would come up with next!
As a zombie lover, I loved these two action packed stories! They kept me interested and held my attention. Loved the first one! It was just a dream! Highly recommend!
Two shorts combine to share main characters Angel and Luis's adventures fighting zombies in New York City; the stories told in game form. These shorts are creative, flow smoothly and race from one crisis to another. They are sure to be a hit with gamers and horror readers alike.
