I loved this account of cycling through Argentina, Chile and into Bolivia. The excitement of discovery and overcoming the challenges they faced made it a really enjoyable read for me. I recommend it if you like reading about places off the beaten track, especially if you have an interest in cycling.
This is in every sense a journey - of the three, big-hearted men with limited experience that began this expedition in dreams of traversing through the Andes, scaling the ups and downs of the terrain on their bikes and simultaneously growing to enjoy each other's company. The book is very much a diary telling the (mis)happenings and joys along this 250+ days quest through the roads of western Latin America. Humility, respect, compassion, camaraderie, endurance, fun, tears, joy, pain, hunger, agony, struggle - this book will give you all of these. Certain parts you might have to endure just like our protagonists to reach to the other end - the majestic views, the grandeur of the lands they travelled, the stories of the people they met during their journey, their hospitality towards our riders, and the love and bonding our riders shared with everyone along the way.
About three men from England who raised money for leukemia by riding their bikes from the Cape Horn, the southern most tip of South America, through Argentina, Chile and Bolivia, to Lake Titicaca. This book is written by one of the men on the journey similar to a journal and therefore, it is not that great to read, but an interesting idea for a book as well as some good stories that he recounts.
I enjoyed this, even though it wasn't the greatest written book. Lacked some emotion, but was still an interesting story of three friends travel adventure. Every time I read anything about Bolivia, it moves up my travel list. I knew I really wanted to go to Lake Titicaca, but I also really enjoyed learning more about the areas of Andean areas of Argentina.
