This book is a speed-reading tutorial. It is supposed to give the fundamentals of the Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamics program. Having not taken the program, I cannot say how well it accomplishes that goal, but in other aspects, it fails. Mostly, the writing is poor, and the book really wasn't necessary. You can learn almost everything in here online nowadays. The book does have samples of writing with which you can test yourself and determine your reading speed, comprehension, and memory, though the latter two are very subjective to the reader and aren't quantitative.
For the most part, this book says how it will help you, and how fantastic the Evelyn Wood program is. This, along with the writing that seems like it was aimed at a 6th grader, and with a poor (damn near sacrilegious) summation of 2001: A Space Odyssey, make this book irritating to read. You would be better off scouring the Internet for a how-to on speed reading.
This book may be old, but it's spot on! I just learned to read even faster and in fact finished this book in one sitting. Your bad reading habits are quickly pointed out and with a few good habits to replace them you're off!
Because I'm reading more, I picked this up at the library. It was very helpful to relearn that I don't have to have a full and complete knowledge of anything I read. This book helped me evaluate why I'm reading. Using the tools I learned in this book I also increased my speed by about 35%.
What did you think about this book?thisIS a fast read and it makes sense. However, there is a controversy as to whether it is good to read so fast or to read slowly and out loud. These writer claim it helps retention as well. We will see.
