0.5 in The Kiss of Death Series. Prequel novella to Kill Me.

At thirteen years old I was sold, doomed to become a sex slave.
Nicholai Ivanov, boss of the Russian Bratva, gave me the ultimate gift. He saved me from a fate worse than death. He promised to make me strong, because only the strong survive, and the weak die, forgotten and inconsequential.

I now live in a world of blood and violence, where humanity itself is a weakness. My life is not a battle of bad and good, but bad and worse. This is kill or be killed, survival of the fittest.

Make me or break me?

What a fantastic introduction!!!
Welcome to Una’s story, the making of a perfect female assassin!!

Una and her sister Anna were at an orphanage when Nicholai Ivanov, the boss of the Russian Bratva, saved Una at the age of 13 from being sold as a sex slave and took her under his protection as to train her into an elite lethal killer.
Her training was tough and ruthless, emotions and feelings should be wiped out of her.

This prequel was fantastic, however not an easy read. What Una had to go through her training was brutal and inhuman.
It was exceptionally written, very intense, dark and had me completely captivated!

“You are like the daughter I never had.”
To watch her fight is like poetry, to see her kill is art, a dancer spinning her craft on the great stage. She will be exquisite. The perfect death for any man who might find himself on the wrong end of her gun.
“From now on you will be Una Ivanov, my daughter in name.”
I lean close and press my lips to her forehead. She tenses but makes no other move.
“And your name will be whispered in fear, little dove.
A Kiss of death.” Nicholai

EDIT: I received my copy of Make Me at the Claddagh Signing in Ireland. This book will not be released until November 14th.

My arc of Kill Me hit my kindle last night so I finally got to read this one. It's been waiting on me far too long! I can already tell Una is going to be a kickass character so I can't wait for more of her.

L.P Lovell did an amazing job with this prologue, it was short but gave the perfect amount of information about Una and how she got into this life of killing. It's not necessary to read this before starting Kill Me and no information will be missed if you skip this one.

★ 4 stars!!! ★

Depois de passar quase um dia inteiro remoendo a leitura anterior, abrindo e fechando livros repetidamente... finalmente encontrei algo que despertou o meu interesse!!

“Embrace death, only then can you conquer it.”

Make Me é uma introdução aos livros Kill Me e Kiss Me.
Aqui conhecemos Una Vasiliev, na idade de 13 anos. Acompanhamos toda a sua trajetória, seu treinamento e sessões de tortura para se tornar a mais temida assassina, futuramente conhecida como Una Ivanov.

“And your name will be whispered in fear, little dove.”

Quero destacar que livros curtos raramente conseguem me surpreender.

“I embrace the cold detachment with open arms, revelling in the darkness. After all, don’t monsters live in the dark?”

“To watch her fight is like poetry, to see her kill is art, a dancer spinning her craft on the great stage. She will be exquisite. The perfect death for any man who might find himself on the wrong end of her gun.”

Correndo para o seguinte com esperança de que esses livros me tirarão do buraco.
Espero sinceramente que não me decepcione como vem acontecendo recentemente nas leituras passadas.
Dedos cruzados, pois adoro uma mocinha badass!

This novella showed the becoming of Una Ivanov, the assassin as we know of in Kill Me and Kiss Me
from the age of 13, trained, tortured, conditioned
Each day is a test of endurace, a battle of the mind over basic instinct. I always win.

into a perfect weapon, void of any emotions...
Embrace death, only then can you conquer it.

and when the last light of humanity seen as weakness left her, she stands molded in deadly perfection...
To watch her fight is like poetry, to see her kill is art, a dancer spinning her craft on the great stage. She will be exquisite. The perfect death for any man who might find himself on the wrong end of her gun.

From now on you will be Una Ivanov, my daughter in name.

And your name will be whispered in fear, little dove.

Short but gritty, dark with a grip of emotional pain , Make Me is a perfect addition to the Kiss of Death series!

'Make Me' is the prequel to 'Kill Me' and while it’s not a must, I highly recommend it, not only because Una’s background is fantastically done, but also because for a novella it was really well written. For me 'Make Me' was intriguing and to be honest it held me at the edge of my seat like no other novella I’ve read so far. Needless to say, L.P. Lovell impressed me again. This story was fast-paced, engaging filled with action, suspense and emotion and it definitely left me wanting more.

"This life is a battle of bad and worse. There is no room for good, only survival. Only strength. Only what must be done."

Una stopped being protected and loved becoming the protective at the tender age of eight, when her parents died in an accident and she and her younger sister were moved in a orphanage. Forced by circumstances, Una learned the hard way to survive. Her life changes completely when she’s 14, when a dangerous man gives her what no one gave her ever in a long time. Time passes and Una becomes stronger, wiser in some way, a bada$$ young woman who will ultimately become the Kiss of Death.

If you already read 'Kill Me' and want to know what happened to Una when she was just a young girl for her to become so cold and emotionless, then you don’t want to miss this one. L.P. Lovell did a great job with this novella. Una’s portrayal was fantastically done. Her past was gradually revealed and really broke my heart. If when she was younger Una was vulnerable, as life goes on, Una becomes cold, calculated, deadly. Needless to say, if you like strong heroines, then you will like Una, cause she was exactly that.

I really enjoyed this one and I wouldn’t have minded Una’s story to be a little longer. Overall, 'Make Me' was an entertaining, awesome read and a really great addition to the series.

"The numbness that ensues is peaceful, easy. I embrace the cold detachment with open arms, revelling in the darkness. After all, don't monsters live in the dark?"

LOVED LOVED LOVED this prequel. It's dark, abusive, and painful.

Make Me is about Una's background. The road to becoming one of the most feared assassins.

This quick read is unforgettable. The story is not erotic, but there is a little bit of romance included.

I knew, going into this, that my heart would hurt. I just wasn't sure how much.

Una was a survivor. No two ways about it. The author gave us a short but intense look into what makes this character tick. It helped to explain a lot with regards to Una's actions and reactions in Kill Me. As I'm eagerly waiting for book 2, all this book did was make me more ravenous for it.

Poor Una. By the end of this novella, Nikolai finally broke her. But thankfully, because of what we've already seen of her in Kill Me, we know that she's not 100% broken.

What a story! What did I just read? This is my first contact with Ms. Lovell’s writing and I promise it won’t be the last!

The story is dark and there could be triggers for someone.

This is a novella but it was so well developed that I didn’t even realize it. The plot has no mystery but it is raw, direct and suspenseful. I was reading this story and I couldn’t think of something worse that could happen, until it was happening. The novella is written by Una’s POV and it’s nicely done. Una has always been a strong fighter, even when she was just a child and she has my respect for it!

The end of the novella was amazing! My mouth was open and I couldn’t bring myself to close it! I couldn’t see where the story was taking me and I was taken by surprise! So, I start immediately with Kill Me as I need to know what happened to Una afterwards!

Life is never easy for Una and her sister Anna. Inside the orphanage, they have to depend to each other. I love how Una takes care of her sister, she’s her protector. But things got worse when Una was handpicked by a Russian Mafia head, to be trained and became an assassin, with no choice she left Anna with a heavy heart.

Now a full pledge assassin, Una must remain strong and have no emotional attachment to anyone. That’s makes her one bad-ass heroine. I cannot wait to read Kill Me .

L.P. Lovell is a new author to me and I'm glad I listened to a friend who recommends her book. I found an author to follow when it comes to strong, determined heroine.

It's a killer -- a tale so dark and unimaginable that it slays you with gut-wrenching punches, bullets, knives and plain old heartless evil. The unthinkable and dehumanizing idea to teach and train a young child to kill without feelings of remorse -- or any feelings whatsoever -- especially one who has absolutely no other options for survival in this world makes for terrorizing nightmares.

Can't say I enjoyed this read, but it definitely kept me intrigued and on the edge-of-my-seat. Call me a glutton for punishment, but I'm in too deep to give up now, and there are so many unanswered questions, so I'm moving on to see Una's story to the end.

Gripped me from the start!

It doesn't take long to read this - prologue through to the end - so naturally I read it in one hit and wanted to carry on. A great insight into how Una became the badass she is in Kill me.

Give me more!!!

What's worse? To come from nothing or to have it all - family, love, safety - and have it all ripped away?

That's what happened to Una. She had to stay strong to care for her younger sister, learned independence at a too young age, and believed she was living in hell until all that changed and she had to evolve again.

I hate spoilers and won't write them, so I won't go on.

Not for 1 second was I 'just waiting for the next thing to happen’. This small book is FULL. It immersed me completely. I dove into it, and I remember every single character’s name, still now.

Oh and this punchy little book gave me some feels I wasn't expecting. Gotta go! Need to read the next one. ;) Enjoy!! ~ Autumn, 5 stars

This is the prequel for the duet. It contains the heroines background - her character development. I finished the book absolutely hating her. Now I don’t even want to read her duet.

Spoiler

She killed her first love. Alex, her comfort, only friend, and protector, was too good for this bitch.🥺
Her boss gave her a choice, kill him or herself. She says I love you and shoots him. No, she didn’t love him, she loved herself.

I just killed the best person I know, the only person who truly cared about me besides Nicholai, and it was Nicholai who put the gun in my hand, he who forced me to this. Alex cared enough that he begged me to shoot him instead of myself. And I’m enough of a monster that I did it.

Holy shit! After two months of freaking rom-coms I finally, finally crossed over! I didn't even find the story particulary dark, though very intriguing. Other reviewers say it's dark and twisted, but you know me, when my depraved alter ego comes out, anything goes.

Yep! Una is 13 years old and boss of the Russian Bratva "saves" her from being a whore by putting her in a combat training (tortured, stripped of humanity) to become the ultimate assassin. Reminds you of Nikita right!?

I'm looking forward to read the next book Kill Me

4.5 Stars!

Make Me is a very short story with a lot of insight into the heroine. It is the prequel to Kill Me to that really gives us the background of how Una became the assain that first met.

This review is going to be hard to write because I don’t want to give anything away. I actually really enjoyed that we are getting this prequel now because I wanted to know how she ended up where she was. She most definitely had a rough childhood and she endured things that no one should have to go though. The situations that she was put in and the way that she was trained is brutal and it explains so much about the woman that we first met.

Make Me starts when Una is thirteen years old and in an orphanage. From there, she ends up with a man who ultimately earns her trust and trains her to be the freaking badass woman that she is. The ultimate warrior. There’s also a little bit of history that shows her vulnerable side and explains a more on why she is stone cold with her emotions. I felt everything she was going though. I rooted for her to stay strong and become a powerful woman.

I don’t know how L.P. did it but she delivers a story that is full of not only action but emotions in such a short amount of time. Don’t let the number of pages fool you. You don’t want to miss out on this. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in this series. I don’t think I will ever get enough.

Where it all began... sometimes the past can be a beautiful thing, but not for Una.

In Make Me we find out how Una became the best assassin. I love when we get a back story on characters and hers was a good one. I felt bad for her from start to finish. The story was good and now I know why she is the way she is.

I can't wait to read the second book in the Kiss of Death series.

This is Una's story. From the moment she and her sister Ana ended up in an orphanage to the moment she lost all humanity.

I don't think the story answered as many of the questions book 1 left open. However it does offer great insight into how Una came to be "death".

OMG!!! What a heart-breaking start! DANG!!!!! My chest hurts. My stomach hurts. This novella packs a dark and deadly weapon of destruction! You'll want the next book like air to breathe. I LOVE a fierce heroine, Una is conditioned, tortured, and finally broken. I can't wait to see how her story plays out. I'm hoping for revenge. This novella packs a punch! I typically do not read short stories, but this was the prequel to the main story. I was not disappointed! This story begins with our heroine, Una, and her sister being orphaned and mistreated. Una is the older sister and protects her sister, Anna, as much as she can. Una comes in contact with Nikolai (bad Russian mafia boss) and he 'saves' her from a doomed life. Everything that is shinny is not gold. This book centers on how Nikolai 'saves' Una and her transformation into a strong, kickass KILLA!!

I loved everything about this book. There are no hearts and flowers here. Very strong writing that left me wanting to know what happens next. Bravo!! Well done!!

Painfully brutal but singularly beautiful, the story of Una's training years is one that is difficult to stomach but at the same time captivating.

This was inevitably going to be a short but challenging read as we head back into Una's childhood which consisted of pain and abuse. From her time in the orphanage to when she is taken to be trained as an assassin, Una knows little of life outside of her tragic existence.

What this story does tell us though is more about the boy she has nightmares about and whom she killed: Alex. Brought together to train, Una and Alex share a bond which spans a few short years. Their connection is a tender one and it's formed by a deep emotional bond. Whilst neither act upon their feelings, in part due to their age, they do fall in love, as only young teenagers can when fighting to survive. Alex is tender with Una, he holds her, hugs her and sleeps next to her but this connection and palpable bond is their undoing once Nicholai Ivanov becomes aware of their mutual feelings. The outcome is painful but their journey is beautiful. I just wish there could have been a different outcome for poor Alex.

This series so far has been an absolute pleasure to read and to become lost in. Whilst it is dark, the story is meaningful and totally captivating. I'm not sure given the chance again whether I'd read Make Me before Kill Me but I am happy to have read this 0.5 novella after Kill Me, if only to fill in Una's back story. To read Make Me before or after Kill Me doesn't make a great deal of difference but I may have found Make Me a little shocking had I read it first, so personally I recommend reading Kill Me before Make Me.

I can't wait for more from this explosive series.

Because I love Lovell and plan on reading everything she writes, I began reading this book without even reading the synopsis. Being a lover of everything dark, I was immediately thrilled by what I found! What is darker than a 13-year-old girl being starved and beaten in an orphanage? I soon found out that things could in fact get a lot darker.... the 13-year-old is purchased & forever torn away from her 10-year-old sister. Sold into sex slavery? Yes, for a few hours, but Lovell is too creative for just that!

“Nicholai saved me from being raped and sold as a whore.”

The rest of this story is absolutely unpredictable and deliciously depraved!!

Programmed to be a monster...”

The only reason I did not give this book 5 stars is because it badly needs to be proofread - there are way, way, way too many typos!!!
