Beste verhaal van Johan en Pirrewiet van de eerste tien albums doordat het doet denken aan de zwierigheid van Asterix. Veel tempo, veel Middeleeuwen-karikaturen en -clichés en de mopjes met de Van Beverens (én Van Beeveren :)) zijn uitstekend.
De tekeningen blijven vrij 'simpel', maar de verhoudingen en camerastandpunten zijn vakwerk. In het plaatje met de belegering van de binnenste ringmuur laat Peyo zien dat hij in deze tekenstijl ook indruk kan maken.

I have a 1975 hardback reprint in French from Dupuis. Originally published in 1959, this is quite a long episode (60 pages rather than the usual 44 for this publisher). It starts rather slow with a sweet story of a cursed castle and a lonely ghost. Noble-hearted Johan decides to reverse the curse, and does so with the help of the Smurfs. But this only brings trouble, as a dozen potential heirs claim the castle and plot to do away with the only true descendant of the ghost. The story becomes a tightly-plotted, intelligent adventure with Johan and Pirlouit trying to help the sceptical descendant in order to finally free the ghost. Betrayal after betrayal follow as the story bounces back and forth, and there’s a full siege of the castle to crown the upsurge in action. This is a kid’s book, so a ghost can scare the occupying usurpers into giving up, but nevertheless this development was foreshadowed from the start. All is well that ends well.
The story is tightly and intelligently woven, and the art is nice and clear throughout. It’s a pleasure to read again. Simple as it is, this story encapsulates very well all the mythology of the Middle Ages. All the elements are here with witches, curses, ghosts, complex genealogy, battles, and knightly honour. It’s a very good mix. Once again, this is a boy’s own story, as the only females are the witch who uttered the curse and another who provides some assistance to the protagonists.

Un albo di John e Solfamì in cui i puffi fanno una rapida apparizione.
La storia è quella di un castello che apparteneva ad un signore troppo dedito al vino, in una terra resa fertile dalle sette sorgenti del titolo. Questo sire fa incavolare una strega che maledice e prosciuga le sorgenti. La terra diventa arida, tutti se ne vanno e il fantasma del sire si ritrova condannato a rimanere nel castello fino a quando un legittimo erede non ne riprenderà possesso.
Inizia come una storia di fantasmi e prosegue come una ricerca della soluzione per l'aridità della terra, risolta infine grazie ai puffi. Quindi assistiamo alla lunga lotta tra gli eredi, ed alla furbizia di Johan e alle gag si Solfamì. Nel complesso si lascia leggere bene ancora oggi, e siamo sulle 3 stelle e mezza.

Non capisco proprio perché la RCS abbia creato questa serie. Mischia le avventure dei Puffi con quelle di John e Solfamì senza un filo logico. Questa infatti è la decima storia di John e Solfamì e i Puffi compaiono in 3 tavole su un totale di sessanta. Ecco, magari poi uno capisce perché ho il dente avvelenato.
Sì, insomma, i Puffi compaiono dalla tavola 23 alla tavola 26. Per il resto c'è un fantasma condannato a vagare per il suo castello. Una strega che ha lanciato una maledizione. E un sacco di nobilucci che cercano di appropriarsi del castello di cui sopra.
Speriamo che con la prossima avventura si torni dai Puffi. Solfamì mi sta un po' sulle scatole.

'De oorlog der 7 bronnen' is een uitstekend humoristisch avonturenverhaal waarin Johan en Pirrewiet een spook helpen. Zelfs de smurfen keren , meteen na hun debuut in 'De fluit met zes smurfen' terug (datzelfde jaar zouden ze hun eigen stripreeks krijgen). Hoogtepunt van het album vormen echter de vele erfgenamen die continu met elkaar op de vuist gaan. Je merkt dat Peyo steeds lichtvoetiger wordt, een trend die zich in de laatste drie Johan en Pirrewiet-albums alleen maar voortzet.

Çünkü yollarına çıkan bir şatonun lanetini ortadan kaldırmaları lazım.
Bu sefer lanetlenmiş bir şato ve onun efendisi olan soylunun hayaletiyle karşılaşıyorlar kahramanlarımız. Her zamanki gibi kaçma ve kovalamacaların ardından, kimi zaman şansın yüzlerine gülmesi ile çoğu zaman da Pirlouit'in şanssızlıklarıyla boğuşarak zafere ulaşıyorlar.

Et hop ! Une histoire de fantôme ! Si ça part d'une bonne idée au départ, certains gags redondants viennent un peu gâcher l' ensemble, qui reste néanmoins correct.
