Lorraine Boettner said in “Millennium”: “Probably the most influential books from the postmillennial viewpoint have been The Second Advent” by David Brown (1846, revised 1849), search for many years was recognized as the standard work on the subject, and Dr. Charles Hodges systematic theology (1871). Brown was a Scotch Presbyterian minister.”
Back in the days when I was barely studying eschatological subjects, this was one of my favorite books. At the time I probably could not defend what I was, but I knew I was NOT a dispensational premillennial. This book gave me plenty of ammunition in my new eschatology arsenal to at least blow that view out of the water. I recall it being a foundational book in my studies, and would love to revisit it one day now that I have spent so many years studying eschatology more fully.
