This is a book I happily added to my collection. This biography chronicles John Muir's history and includes photos of Muir. It provides engrossing details of his life as a dedicated botanist who studied heavily while exploring.

I learned so much about Muir in a very concise way - one of the best things about biographies written with children and young adults in mind.

I was inspired by watching a PBS special called The National Parks, America's Best Idea, to read learn more about this man who was one with nature. This is an easy read, but a great one. It helped me to appreciate what others have done to make and keep our National Park wilderness areas available to everyone. He wrote "Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wilderness is a necessity." One other quote that I loved was the following "I only went out for a walk and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in." This is one book I'm glad I took the time to read.
