A Dance In the Desert The Story of Leah, Jacob, and Rachel

A stranger fleeing from his past. Two sisters married to the same man, now bitter rivals for his love. A family torn apart by the deception of the father, who holds the lives of all he loves in his hands.

Jacob - a man who fled for his life from the brother he cheated.

Leah - a woman disfigured from a childhood disease, now forced to obey her father and deceive both her sister and the man she loves.

Rachel - the love of Jacob's life who waits patiently for their marriage, only to end up having to share him with her own sister.

Laban - the wily old man who pulls the strings to control those he loves and those he uses.

From L. M. Roth, author of Battleground: Elijah and the War With Jezebel, A Star In the Darkness, Esther and the King of Persia, and Arise My Love, the Princess Who Fell Asleep, comes a sensitive and poignant retelling of the legendary love triangle that birthed the Twelve Tribes of Israel. A Dance In the Desert, The Story of Leah, Jacob, and Rachel is a tale of yearning, heartbreak, and sibling rivalry that still evokes across the centuries the drama of a family torn apart, yet whose legacy is one of the great dynasties of history. Can they overcome the bitter jealousy that threatens to destroy them and thus receive their inheritance? Or will they only succeed in destroying each other?

A POWERFUL BIBLICAL STORY BROUGHT TO LIFE

This is a very familiar story to those who know the Bible, and I was captivated by the way the author brought it to life.
Rachel is portrayed as a spoiled brat who never really grew up until towards the end. Leah was the older forgotten daughter who may have never had a chance of marriage if it hadn’t been for her father’s plan of deception. But at what cost would that plan come?
Rachel and Leah spend the rest of their lives competing for Jacob’s affections and never again know the closeness of the sister bond they once had.
This was a quick but enjoyable read.

I did not enjoy this book as much as the previous one I read by this author. It is Biblical fiction so some licenses are taken to fill out the story, which is fine as it is fiction. I wish that there was better editing on these books; as in the last one I read by her, Joseph is married to Leah, rather than Jacob and I found many incidences where words were left out of sentences and I had to figure out what was being said.

This was my wife's first foray into Roth's biblical fiction after reading all of Lynn Austin's books. She (my wife, not Austin) was very pleased and rated this book 5-stars. I am now committed to getting the rest of Roth's bible-based stories for her. She's now starting "Hope in the Dead of Night."

Great Biblical fiction

The story kept me hooked all the way through! Great character development and relationship intricacies. I loved it, and you will too if you love the stories from the Scriptures.

Good read

Enjoyed the retelling of the Biblical account of Jacob. Quite a few inaccuracies however and, technically, several misspellings and uses of wrong names in the transcription to an ebook. Overall though, a good read and interesting look into the possible “backstory”.

A retelling of the Jacob meets and marries two sisters and had 12 kids story. Includes all related information to the biblical passages, and the only error was in saying Rachel was buried in the same tomb as Leah Abraham and Sarah.

Excellent book

I had this book on my kindle for a few months while I was engrossed in FBI books. Decided to read it a couple of days ago and honestly, it was close to impossible to put down. I highly recommend this book to all.
