I owned a paper copy of the original book and read it often until it disintegrated. Ha! This book is truly a time capsule in many ways, a glimpse into a bygone era when the romance part of romance novels was actually paid attention to. The lack of graphic sex is a relief to be honest because that's a hallmark of a lack of ideas on the writers end. Also, the portrayal of churchgoing Black folks(I'm not one of them but recognize the bias in media against them) that isn't wack is so rare. I wasn't thrilled with the modernized bits of the book, especially since they made the aspects of the book that weren't updated actually feel more dated. I would have been fine reading this as a total period piece. This book holds a special place in my life because my mom had just started dating my stepdad when I bought it(with my allowance!) and it helped me begin to understand where she was coming from. I'm the same age as Angela is now and man do I feel just wanting some romance in my bones.
I fell in love with this book years ago. I picked it up at a garage sale and was hooked. I haven’t read it in years, but reading it again today, finishing it in one day, and I realize why I have coined it my favorite book.
I recently read one of Ms. Manees book after many years and I realized how long it had been since I read anything by her. Angela Delaney widowed mother and Darryl Bridges, singer ,songwriter extradinaire literally bump into each other in Atlanta. They become good friends communicating through phone callas and letters. They finally spend time together after months of getting to know each other. From there you have to read the book for yourself. This was a very swett story that was so romantic. They were both down to earth she was not clingy Nor was he cocky. A really sweet love story.
This book was in 1996 but it was still as sweet and enjoyable 16 years later.
man i love this story, i have read this book over and over again, i wish she would come out with another book about tiffany so she could update us. this is a good read, could have had a little more detail on the sex scene though.
An absolutely amazing love story! Angela and Darryl are so adorable together. Darryl is just as sexy as he can be and has all the romance to keep you with your mouth hanging open! Incredible writing. A must read!
