Distracted By Her

Rate this book
Windy City Millionaire, Devlin Stone is about to discover that revenge and love don't mix.

Fifteen years ago my father went to jail for crime he didn’t commit. Now, I’m back to take revenge on the man who sent him there. He believes himself untouchable, and for the most part, he is. His daughter, however, is very touchable and well within my reach.

I remember Rebecca as a sweet kid, who took piano lessons from my mother. These days she’s a complicated woman with knack for distracting me from my retribution.

She wants to save me. I intend to ruin her. Things are going to get interesting.

Almost good.

To be honest, this book had me hooked right off the bat and I could hardly put it down. When I was halfway through this, I thought it would definitely be a winner for me. Unfortunately, it ended up disappointing.

Rebecca got on my nerves at times. I have to say that she is not my kind of heroine, but somehow, I think she was mostly tolerable. Devlin seemed nice enough but not enough to win me over.

What I enjoyed the most about this book was the drama. It was exactly the kind of drama I always look for.

This book had so much potential, but too bad, it failed to execute. I really wanted to love it but the last quarter of the story made it hard to.

Despite the fact that my first read by this author didn't go as expected, I still look forward to reading more of her works.

This was a sexy and exciting introduction to Caitlyn Blue. If this story was an example of what's to come from this author, than I can only imagine much success in her future.

Told in dual POV, this was the story of Devlin and how he let his past and revenge change and consume him. Fifteen years ago, his father was sent to prison for a crime he didn't commit. For most of those years, Devlin thought his dad was guilty. When new evidence is discovered that shows his father's innocence, it's too late to help him. Fueled by guilt, anger and bitterness, Devlin was determined to exact revenge on the true guilty part. What better way to do that then to use that man's daughter to defeat him. Too bad he didn't count on Rebecca not being the best pawn. Her beauty, purity of soul, and her very heart beat at the walls that Devlin had built to fortify himself, creating cracks in his armor to "distract" him from his plan.

She's succumbed to my darkness. My self-hatred has found a warm nest in her self-doubts. And I don't have the strength to save us both.

The plot was both interesting and entertaining. I liked how the author played on the idea of the small town mentality and the elitist attitudes. The characters were incredibly well-developed and likable. I loved the way Devlin's darkness was no real threat to Rebecca's light.

She's saved me. And I've ruined her. The trade doesn't seem at all fair.

The story was sensual and sexy with a touch of intrigue and drama. Betrayed By Her is the next book in the series and it's about Devlin's friend, Garrett. I hope to see more of this couple in that story because I was a bit dissatisfied with this story's abrupt ending.

Not having read any other books by the author before, I have to say that I was very impressed with Distracted by Her. Not only was the story captivating, but the personalities of the characters made everything fresh and interesting to read. At the beginning of the story we get to meet Devlin and find out about his master plan to avenge his father. He had believed for years that his dad went to prison for the crimes he committed, but after finding out new evidence on the case, it was found that he might have been innocent all along. Now it's up to Devlin to find out the truth by going directly to the person that accused his father of those crimes, but first he has to get closer to the daughter of that man if he is going to find out any answers at all. But little did he know that meeting Rebecca was going to change his life forever.

For Rebecca being daughter of one of the city's most influential man hasn't been easy. There are high expectations that she must meet in order to get her father's approval, but working along side him has made her happy, especially when he is happy with the projects that she works hard to get. Aside from that she is not so happy when it comes to her love life. She is tired of getting used by man that only want to get to her father, and for that she has devised a list of things that a man has to pass in order to get her approval. Needless to say, the minute she meets Devlin she knows that things aren't going to be the same, but as they got to know each other things soon start to change, and not for the better.

I loved the twists in the story, and the chemistry between the characters is just magnetic. Between the drama and the pace of the story, this book had me reading nonstop until the very end. It's evident from the very beginning that both of the characters have pasts that they need to move away from, but together they're able to overcome that part of their lives and start a new one together. Overall, the story had a nice fluidity to it, and the dual point-of-view helped the story as a whole. I would highly recommend it, and I will most definitely be reading more from the author in the future. :)

I got this book quite some time ago, and I read it a while ago too, I just forgot to write a review, so I reread it and it held up pretty well the second time around. I tend to really like revenge plots, they are just so juicy with drama. Plus this one had the added in fake relationship, and you just know fake relationships always turn into something more.

The book is pretty fast paced, it was a quick read both times which is just what I was looking for. This book definitely has some serious complications that could have made for some super big time drama, but like I said this book is a pretty quick read so the few instances of straight up confrontation came and went pretty fast.

Devlin has come back to the small town where he grew up to avenge his father who was wrongfully accused of embezzling and then died in jail. And wouldn't you know it, the guy who set up Devlin's father is the father of our lovely heroine, Rebecca. Rebecca is pretty mousy actually, she seems to go out of her way to be unremarkable, wrapping herself in unflattering clothing and big glasses to hide behind. That's not to say she is unremarkable, she is beautiful and talented and what seems like an overall pretty good person. She was easy to like. But being in this small town, where the Queen Bee basically hates her is not an easy thing for her to endure. And Devlin doesn't exactly help.

Devlin's kind of a jerk, and I am not sure exactly why I liked him but I did. Now don't get me wrong, it took me some time to build up to like but I definitely got there. When we first meet Devlin he is convinced that everyone especially Rebecca is nefarious and up to no good. Even after she repeatedly tells him the truth, he basically continues to declare her lying and acts like a pompous jerk. But of course the longer the two of them interact with each other the more he starts to soften around the edges and I have to say once that started happening I liked him a lot more. There were more than a few moments in this book where he really pulled on the heartstrings.

I liked the book, it was a easy read and just enjoyable. The main characters had chemistry and heat, but they also had a lot of things in their way to overcome. Revenge could have overwhelmed Devlin, so it was good to see how his character really grows over the course of the book. I also thought the author did a good job at painting a picture of small town high society and the way that really impacted Rebecca, constantly being the target of their ire. This was definitely a good read for me.

Revenge mixed with fake romance between the scorned son and innocent daughter from two families after past bad blood

Distracted by Her is a revenge romance between the scorned son and innocent daughter from two families with bad blood between them. The book also mixes a bit of a fake romance which fitted well with the revenge aspect. Overall, I enjoyed this slightly suspenseful well written romance.

Told from dual points of view, Devlin and Rebecca have a great chemistry that is steadily built up in an intriguing way that fits in perfectly with the theme of the book. Things do heat up between the couple but never overtakes their relationship, or the book, just adds support to their attraction and budding relationship. I really liked the way the characters lives were clearly intertwined in the past, especially between Rebecca and Devlin’s mother and their shared love of music and the role it plays in the present. One thing I did find is that while I did like both characters, Devlin took a little longer to warm to than Rebecca but overall, I enjoyed reading both characters and getting to know them.

Distracted by Her is well written with a steady to fast pace. The book is suspenseful with plenty of twists and turns but the author also manages to get a good balance between the romance and tension. The ending, something I personally loved, gave a HEA and tied up the story for Devlin and Rebecca and allows this to be read as a standalone; it would have been nice to read slightly into their future, but the ending did work as it was.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this revenge fake turned more romance and would definitely recommend you give it a read.

I wasn’t a huge fan of this book. The characters were well formed and dynamic. The plot was decent. I have never read anything by this author before. I had difficulty feeling a connection to this book. It is rare for me to like a book that I couldn’t connect with. That being said I did not hate the book. There are so many things that I did enjoy such as the characters and plot. The flow and pace were decent and the authors writing style was good. If I had been able to connect with the book it would definitely be a five star book. That in mind I would definitely be willing to try something else by this author in the hopes that I get that connection I need. Needless to say the disconnect I felt lowers the rating to 3.5 stars.

Spoiler Free Review

Devlin Stone is bent on revenge against the man he is sure sent his father to prison for a crime he did not commit. He sees an opportunity to exact that revenge in Rebecca, the man's daughter. Rebecca and Devlin knew each other once upon a time and he remembers a sweet kid, but now...Rebecca is all grown up.

I enjoyed this fast-paced read. Sexy romance, revenge and secrets meld together in a beautiful story of revenge and love.
