This book is unique to regencies considering that the heroine is pregnant through the story - eight months pregnant! However, I find that this is a delightful story with great characters. Lord Sheldrake is my favorite character. He has the best depth and growth in my opinion. Olivia is a fun character though. This is a great book to read when you yourself are pregnant - it's always good to remember that men can still find us desirable when we feel like a beached whale. The side characters are just that - side characters. Most things focus on Olivia and Sheldrake. This is a good book with good twists and a sweet story.

This was the very first romance novel that I ever read and it's the reason that I fell in love with the regency romance genre! I read this back when I was about 13 years old and I recently re-read my old copy at the ripe old age of 28. I still loved it 15 years later! I got my hands on 5 or 6 other regency novels by Ms. Mindel and then sadly, she didn't write anymore of that genre.
This story is short and sweet with a loveable heroine and a fantastic hero! The hero and heroine meet under some pretty exciting circumstances (her carriage turns over and he must pull her out, plus she happens to be about 8 months pregnant!) There's no sex scenes, just a sweet love story! It also sets up the story arc for the heroine's sister, which is the last book in this three book series.
Aside from this book having one of my favorite covers EVER, it will always have a special place in my heart as my very first romance! I believe it's out of print but if you can get your hands on a copy, I highly recommend Labor of Love!

rare regency romance, with the heroine eight months pregnant and how she, almost mercenarily views the hero as a suitable husband to provide for her child. Liked how lever-headed Sheldrake was when dealing with Olivia's younger sister. But couldn't stand how unreasonably stupid Olivia's "terror" of Sheldrake's reputation was. Also the mystery wasn't much of one and there was an unnecessarily plot twist that just extended page length
