The Dreaming Hunt is the second title of the epic fantasy trilogy by New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Cindy Dees and Bill Flippin.
To defeat the tyrannical Kothite Empire, Raina of Tyrel, a gifted mage, and Will Cobb, a young woodsman, continue on their magical quest to wake the legendary Sleeping King. They and their team have caught the attention of powerful forces determined to stop them. And worse, their visit to the Dream Plane has unleashed chaos, and the fight is spilling over into the mortal realm.
Raina and her friends frantically outrun old enemies and pick up new ones: imperial hunters, a secret cabal of mages, a criminal league, and a changeling army. Are they just pawns in larger political dramas, or are they crystallizing into the nucleus of a rebellion? Can the young heroes find the regalia necessary to wake the Sleeping King before the epic battle that is to come?
"Engaging and complex. . . for fans of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time or Terry Brooks' Shannara series." --RT Book Reviews on The Sleeping King
The Sleeping King Trilogy #1 The Sleeping King #2 The Dreaming Hunt #3 The Wandering War
Cindy Dees started flying airplanes while sitting in her dad’s lap at the age of three and got a pilot’s license before she got a driver’s license. At age fifteen, she dropped out of high school and left the horse farm in Michigan where she grew up to attend the University of Michigan.
After earning a degree in Russian and East European studies, she joined the U.S. Air Force and became the youngest female pilot in the history of the Air Force. She flew supersonic jets, VIP airlift and the “C-5” Galaxy, the world’s largest airplane. She also worked part-time gathering intelligence. During her military career, she traveled to forty countries on five continents, was detained by the KGB and East German secret police, she got shot at, flew in the first Gulf War, met her husband and amassed a lifetime’s worth of war stories.
Her hobbies include professional Middle Eastern dancing, Japanese gardening and medieval reenacting. She started writing on a one-dollar bet with her mother and was thrilled to win that bet with the publication of her first book in 2001.
Dream hunting is a pretty book. It is the second in the sleeping king trilogy. It's action packed and full of fun and whit as our young adventures look for sleeping king and how to wake him. There are new enemies and old foes. Definitely a must read.
I spent a great time with the first volume and it’s true that I was curious to read on and find out what would happen to our heroes. I admit that I had a little trouble at first to put all the characters in mind because with the number, I have forgotten many to my dismay. It’s a shame because the story is great but there is a bit too many POVs for me so that I can find my way.
Of course, I was impatient to see the three main characters of the book such as Rosana, Raine and of course Will. It was interesting to see how they lived, how they participated in their quest after all that had happened and especially to see how Will was trying to train to understand what he was capable of. I will not go into details but our heroes will have again to go through many obstacles to achieve and reach their goals and I can tell you that it will be far from simple. Indeed, new enemies are added, determined to prevent them to bring the king they wish to return to the front of the stage.
I will not say more because a large number of events are taking place here and we are transported by the chapters while trying to understand how everything will unfold. It was a very good second volume even if it is true that I had more trouble to place the characters but I am curious to read more!
Beautifully detailed, rich in world-building and character development, I enjoyed this book. It's a thick read, no doubt, but I liked it. It was just as good as the first book in the series, and increased the tension, suspense and excitement of the story so now I'm very excited to see what happens in the next and final book.
The first book was good. Not great but good. This one I couldn't even get into. The fight seen felt long and boring. I didn't care about anyone. There are too many characters and scenes all squished together. DNF
the best parts of this book were the battles. they were vivid and swept me up every time. the only reason this book didn't get a 4th star was because I didn't care for the jumping around between stories sometimes 3 or 4 times in each chapter. a lot of the time I had to back up and reset my mind which pulled me from the story like a hand yanking me by the collar.
