Romance novelist Kelsey Spencer doesn’t believe in love, and she's tired of faking her way through happily ever afters. Determined to change things up, she heads to the Las Vegas Romance Lovers Convention. But somewhere between half-naked cover models and hot Navy SEALs, Kelsey’s plans derail...
Especially once she meets über-fan Jasmine Grant...and Jasmine’s über-hot alphahole brother, Aaron.
Buttoned-up Aaron Grant never thought he’d find himself at a romance convention, but here he is, trying to convince his impulsive sister not to marry a beefcake cover model. His only hope is to enlist the aid of the cynical (and sexy) romance writer his sister worships.
After a sweltering jaunt around Vegas, some strange conference hijinks, and one outrageous proposal, Kelsey and Aaron are left questioning everything they know about romance and love...and if falling in love might just be worth the gamble.
This book was exactly my cuppa. There's no question that this is what the cover says--a romantic comedy--and, if dry, subtle, tongue-in-cheek humour is your MO, then it's a fair bet you'll enjoy The Right Kind of Guy hugely; I giggled, snorted and cackled my way through this in pretty much one sitting.
"Good evening, romance lovers! What a beautiful night for love."
Set in Vegas at a readers convention, we have Kelsey; a cynical and disenchanted romance author with a disbelief in the happy ever after, Jasmine; quite possibly Kelsey's biggest fan, hell-bent on putting her broken engagement to "The Turd" behind her by reenacting the grand gestures she reads about with one of the conventions half naked male-models, and Aaron; Jasmine's exasperated, overworked and rather attractive older brother.
Kerri-Leigh Grady has brought her reader a sexy, witty romance which pokes fun at her own craft and the romance genre, and it works. Yes, you read that right: from the reader convention to the gorgeous older brother, the near-naked models and the popularity of literary SEAL's, she has taken some of the clichés from the romance industry and used them in the best possible way. Because let's be fair here, when our fave author is about to publish new words for us to devour...
Those moves? I actually know the man who taught them Rick back in the day. He had big hair too. I kid ye not, I witnessed those moves being busted on the dance floor in the late 90's. Anyway, enough digressing and back to the important matter that this book was an easy-going, fun, sexy, hilarious, quick paced, romantic little read with fabulous, relatable, down-to-earth characters whose antics just leave you smiling and that bit lighter after dealing with the everyday shite that real-life brings. It didn't hold any huge surprises, but the verbal sparring between Kelsey and Aaron created build-up and tension and I loved her independent, fiesty streak yet slight vulnerability as she realises that she might well just have feelings for Aaron the Alphahole.
Kerri-Leigh Grady has got herself a new reader here regardless of whether she brings us Jasmine's story. Which I hope she does.

Kelsey Spencer is a romance writer that finds herself no longer even believing in love and cringes when fans think her books are more than just fiction. While attending the Las Vegas Romance Lovers Convention Kelsey meets one of those fans, Jasmine Grant. Even though Jas had gone through a break up she still thinks of romance as a lovely fantasy waiting to come true.
Kelsey also finds herself meeting Aaron Grant who is Jasmine's protective brother who ends up recruiting the jaded Kelsey to try to help rope in his wild eyed sister. Kelsey and Aaron find themselves on a lot of Vegas adventures and through it all they both begin to wonder about their own feelings about romance and love.
The Right Kind of Guy by Kerri-Leigh Grady is one of those books that I thought I should be absolutely loving as I turned the pages but found it just ended up to be an OK read for me. The setting in this one is great, as they say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas so I was expecting a lot of fun there which it does have some funnier moments and I enjoyed Kelsey's character.
But the one thing I found in here that kind of bugged me was Aaron chasing his sister around. It just to me seemed to be way too overprotective of an adult sibling. Jas of course continued to make mistakes in her life and was a bit wild but I just kept thinking you need to let her or she's never going to learn since he seemed to have been doing it for years. As the story progressed though I found myself enjoying it a bit more overall after a rocky beginning.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
I'm going to say about 2.5 stars for this one. It just fell a little flat for me.
I imagine rom-coms are pretty hard to write. Of course, I noticed all the funny lines, but for some reason, I felt like I was looking back at them as I quickly passed them by. In other words, they didn't stop me in my tracks and make me laugh out loud.
The h was well developed and I felt like I got to know her. But the H was a little more difficult to understand. One of the main secondary characters, the H's sister, came across as crass and uncouth. She couldn't say a sentence without cursing and insulting the person she was talking to. It was not funny.
I didn't have a big problem with the insta-love. It was a relatively short novel. A few days in Vegas didn't seem too unusual for two people to meet and make a connection. I was a little disappointed that the epilogue didn't explain the H's decisions and actions regarding his work. His family's reactions were also neglected.
I think if you're reading it as a novella, you'll like it. It you're reading it as a novel, you'll find a few things underdeveloped. However, I was impressed with the editing. Spic and span and squeaky clean.
Review ARC graciously provided by the publisher via NetGalley.
I definitely liked the book, and the characters, and the chemistry, and the theme, and the second characters, and…. Did I mention I liked the book???
This is a feel good, have fun, read with a cup of coffee and relax type of book.
I read it in less than 24 hours!! This is the kind of book I love to read in between series. It is not very heavy but not all fluff, it has the right amount of angst and a lot of fun, it’s very well written, and it keeps your interest until the very end.
Kelsey Spencer is kind of a hypocrite, imagine writing romance novels, and not really believing a word you write. She just doesn’t believe in love at first sight, or on grand gestures, there are no heroes of romance in real life, If you want a marriage that works, better marry your best friend. But alas, she finds herself in a romance book convention, signing books and putting a happy face, that is until Jazmine enters in her life, like a whirlwind that brought and dropped her gorgeous brother on her lap
Aaron Grant has been protecting his little sister all her life, she’s had some wild antics, and thanks to him, she has been spared of a lot of problems. He sees it as his responsibility, and between his sister, a domineering father, work, he really doesn't have the time or the humor, to delve on a personal relationship.
He is attending the Romance Conventions, simply because that is where Jasmine is going, and he finds himself enlisting the help of a beautiful author so she can talk some sense to his sister, and here enters romance author Kelsey, and suddenly his world and views are turned upside down.
The characters have chemistry in abundance, and the heat is contagious. They are very well written, and you end up loving the secondary characters, in this instance, Jasmine. It is definitely as advertised, it's a ROM-COM!!!!
Kelsey is a romance author, who doesn’t believe in the stories she writes: tropes, insta love, steamy connections, friends to lovers, you name it: she mocks it privately. Now the time is come to put up or shut up: the big convention in Vegas where romance fans and megafans gather to celebrate all things romance.
Megafan Jasmine is determined to find hers this year, and Kelsey and her stories are an answer. Determined to get over a broken engagement by getting under one of those hot, half-naked cover models with romance and relationship on her mind, she’s off and running. Hampered only by her brother Aaron and his determination to keep her from the biggest mistake of her life.
Oh this was fun. As Grady is poking at the over-used and repeated tropes that all romance fans have seen, she is in the middle of placing her protagonist Kelsey into the middle of the largest (and most problematic) of them all – instant connection.
Between the snide asides, clever dialogue and the sweet romance and connection that develops between Kelsey and Aaron, as well as the descriptions of out of control readers, scantily dressed cover models and the ‘what happens in Vegas stories’ that stay there, you’ll be whipping through the pages smiling often.
A fun introduction to the genre we love to read, and occasionally poke fun at.
I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via Edelweiss for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility. This review was originally posted on I am, Indeed
It's an interesting read. i enjoyed the story and loved the characters. Kelsey is a romance writer who doesn't want to write romance. Aaron is a brother who wants his sister to stop believing in fairy tales. Together they both make quite a team. Jasmine is Kelsey's fan and she has decided to fall in love. Her brother wants to control her life along with her father but enough is enough so here she is... in love with a cover model.
Kelsey thinks that it's her responsibility to write what's real and romance novels are just fantasy. So when she finds out that one of her reader is most probably destroying her life because of romance novels she decides to help her brother. But what they both didn't consider is the attraction they feel for each other. Soon Jasmine's love life takes a back seat while Kelsey and Aaron explore their own romantic interlude.
It's quite funny story. I love the way author tells us a non-romantic romantic tale. It was cute, I enjoyed reading it and would definitely recommend to all romance lovers who will keep believing in the fantasy. ;)
The Vegas Romance Writers convention comes to a close with a witty tongue in cheek story of a romance writer, Kelsey Spencer, who wants to go into a different direction with her writing and super sexy brother of her biggest fan. Kelsey meets Aaron Grant as he dogs his sister at the convention trying to keep her from making a huge mistake. The hilarious banter and jabs at the industry itself make this one very entertaining read. Their chemistry is off the charts and while they make fun of the "insta-love" found in romance novels, they themselves are caught up in a whirlwind romance.
This one was fun to read and it kept me chuckling all the way through. Definitely a book I recommend to everyone.
This is a new author for me but I was intrigued by it, it is written in 3rd person which normally takes me a while to get used to, but this was surprisingly easy, although some bits were a bit confusing where it went from the different people in the same paragraph without separating them but I got over it, as the writing was otherwise good.
Kelsey spencer a romance author who is a big non believer of love, Goes to a romance convention in vegas and meets jasmine grant a huge fan of hers and her over bearing big brother Aaron Grant.
This whole story is a light happy read with some fun thrown in. I loved the relationship between Aaron and Jasmine and his "alphahole" tendencies with his little sister.
I would definitely read more from this author in the future.
What do you get when throw in a Vegas Romance Convention, 2 hot authors and a funny sister? Chemistry and one hell of a hilarious, tongue in cheek romance!
I loved this fast paced romance and the chemistry between Kelsey and Aaron.
Definitely recommend this romance, it can't stay in Vegas baby!
I voluntarily received this Author Copy for Review.
For romance novelist Kelsey Spencer, meeting fans at conventions is supposed to be fun. However, when she meets Jasmine Grant and her brother, Aaron, her life turns a little crazy. It doesn't help that she's become cynical about romance, and looking to branch out into other genres in her writing. Will Aaron be able to bring back her love of romance, or will their weekend together be nothing more than 'What Happens in Vegas stays in Vegas'?
Aaron Grant is in Vegas for one reason and one reason only -- to protect his sister from doing something stupid. So, when his sister ends up engaged to a romance cover model, he'll do anything to put an end to his sister's latest craziness, even if it means asking romance author Kelsey Spencer for help. It's lucky she doesn't believe in what she writes, otherwise he wouldn't have a chance of gaining her assistance.
What a quick, captivating and fast-paced book Ms. Grady has penned in this one, which captured my attention immediately with the dilemma Kelsey is facing when it comes to her writing. How is she supposed to continue writing romance when her heart isn't in it? However, it was the moment that Kelsey met Aaron that had me flipping the pages quickly, wanting to know how things would work out between this hero and heroine. Will Aaron's sister come to her senses? Will Kelsey overcome her cynicism towards romance?
As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories. Both have their reasons for not wanting romance in their lives, and I could understand why Kelsey is so cynical when it comes to romance. She's been hurt before, and watching Aaron's sister make -- what could possibly be -- the biggest mistake of her life is something she feels adamant she has to stop. She wouldn't want Jasmine to make a mistake like she did. Moreover, there were moments between the hero and heroine that had me smiling. Such as when they're deciding on what to do about the hero's sister, or when they're conversing about why she's so cynical about what she writes. Shouldn't romance authors believe in what they're writing?
I really enjoyed both the main characters, as well as the secondary ones. Yet, Aaron's sister did annoy me with her swearing when it came to saying Kelsey's name. Was it necessary for Jasmine to constantly say such a word? Then there's Kelsey's agent. She was a real hoot with what she wore during the convention and how she encouraged Kelsey as to her options when it came to her writing.
Kelsey was a wonderful heroine. She had some tough decisions to make, but I'm glad she made the ones that she did throughout this book. Should she help Aaron with his sister? What should she do about her writing? Should she stay writing romance or switch to another genre? Kelsey may be cynical but her arguments were valid when it came to Jasmine's quick romance. While Aaron, he's hard-working, confident and I liked how protective he was of his sister. They don't have it easy when it comes to their parents. They're always pushing them to do what's right for the family company, which made me feel sorry for the siblings. Aaron needs to take the time he's spending in Vegas to discover what he wants for his future. Should he leave the family business or stay? Truly, Kelsey was good for him. She made him realize that there's more to life than work.
Overall, this was a wonderful novella that went by fast due to the well-written dialogue and strong romance between two enjoyable main characters. The way this story ended with the way Aaron won Kelsey back had me cheering for this couple's happy ever after. Yet, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up nicely, as it revealed what direction Kelsey ended up taking with her writing career. Was she still writing romance or another genre? This was a question I desperately wanted answered. I would recommend The Right Kind of Guy by Kerri-Leigh Grady, if you enjoy the opposites attract trope.
#Generalities What Happens In Vegas is a long series by different authors, the only thing that they have in common is that all stories happen in Las Vegas, so if you did not like one, there is no reason you will not like the others. I have had the chance to read a couple of these books, however, this is book number #17 and my first Kerri-Leigh book ever! I think this is her debut novel or something but I am not really sure about it.
#Book THE RIGHT KIND OF GUY is a contemporary romance. Kerri tells us about Kelsey and Aaron's story, one as you must have noticed happens in Las Vegas, more specifically in a Romance Convention.
#Characters Kelsey is romance novelist who just think in HEA when it comes to books but not in real life, after a not-HEA of her own and a lack of imagination when love-in-books is related, she decides she is done with them, but of course, there is something that happens when she has your mind settled. Yes, it is a guy, not any guy, nope, the right kind! Aaron seems to have all in order but how his sister is handling her life, something must be wrong if he has to follow her to Las Vegas, maybe she is so spontaneous for her own sake, anyways, Aaron, this guy, OMG! He is described as a sexy character who seems to be all I-do-not-need-a-steady-relationship-to-be-happy kind but who is more of a I-do-not-know-what-I-want kind.
#Plot Kelsey and Aaron have similar thoughts about love, and while they follow his little sister around town, and the more time they spend together, the chemistry between them grows bigger. Plus, if you are not so sure anymore about what you wanted, then it must be for something, no? The plot was explosive(? I did like it, because I happen to like books when there are authors involve as the main characters, it gives my reading another perspective when it comes to love and HEA. Also, how both characters were described was a good addition to the whole story. I think it was all about them and how they found out their feelings and what they truly wanted, because how-it-happens is just a way through their own HEA, or at least, their happily-for-now story.
#Overall This book was fascinating to read because not all the time you have a story about an author who do not believe in HEA, plus it was funny, sweet and sexy. And Jasmine/his-sister made it even funnier with all her craziness and the I-will-prove-my-big-brother-that-I-am-capable-of-manage-my-own-life attitude which was incredible.
#SoWhatNow? You do not need to read all the What Happens In Vegas series to read this one. If you happen to like romantic comedies with sexy boys in them then you should try this one.
The Right Kind of Guy is part of the What Happens in Vegas series by Kerri-Leigh Grady. This is book 17 in the series. I read book 16 (Hot on His Heels) and to be honest I didn't love it. But each of the books are written by different authors and the only common denominator between them is that they all take place in Vegas, so i thought what the heck. Let's give this one a try. And I am glad I did. The summary sounded amusing, and it was. I liked this one more than the last book in the series, but it was only a pretty good read. It didn't make me leap for joy, but I did enjoy it.
The Right Kind of Guy initially intrigued me because it takes place in a romance writer's convention and the main character is a decently popular romance author, who doesn't believe in real life sweep your off your feet romances. I knew right then and there I had to meet Kelsey F**ing Spencer. (that is how one of her fans kept referring to her as.) And I loved Kelsey. I found her to be a breath of fresh air. I can totally see why Aaron was instantly amused by her. I am not sure I got why he was practically stalking her from the moment he met her, but I do get why he liked her.
The Right Kind of Guy is a very quick read that is perfect for a lighthearted afternoon of frivolous fun. It is not a serious read, but it is very cute. The plot is not terribly likely to happen, but just go with it and have fun. This book will have you smiling for sure. It is the first book I have read from author Kerri-Leigh Grady and I really like her writing style. It is very conversational and she clearly enjoyed witty characters. I enjoyed The Right Kind of Guy.
I received this book via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
When I read the blurb on this book it gave me the impression of a different book. But I was totally surprised and delighted with the storyline.
I laughed out loud and walked around with a smile on my face. This quick paced romantic comedy has a well thought out storyline that grows and builds. It throws a little crazy in there and brings it all to a boil to and cook up one creative story.
What happens when a romance author doesn’t believe in romance? The Right Kind of Guy will tell you exactly what happens….. and it doesn’t stay in Vegas.
I am thoroughly and maniacally impressed. I'm not going to go through this the long way like I usually do, but I'll keep it simple and straight to the point—which how this book actually is. Never in my reading history have I ever laughed like a crazy idiot from the very beginning of a book—like not even on Chapter 1 kind of beginning. I laughed out loud so many times while I read this, it wasn't even funny, especially when most of those times were at work, where it's quiet. I really enjoyed the dynamic between the main characters, especially while the story progressed. So excited to see what's next after this and possibly even more stories from this author.
Thanks to net galley.con for the ARC! This book is so good, a bit to many swear words for my liking but still a good story and great characters. I loved that the setting of this book was at a romance writers convention in Vegas and that they spent the whole time chasing after the sister. So random... But it was cool how they got to know each other by a taco truck and riding around in the slow taxi. It was more then casual meetings it was purposeful meetings and it ended up getting them together in the bedroom too. Good writing and great characters!
4 1/2 Kelsey Spencer, romance novelist, is attending a romance convention in Las Vegas. She’s had enough romance writing. She want to write thrillers because she is tired of perpetuating the BS myth of romance. Jasmine, one of Kelsey’s biggest fans, is at the convention, but trying to avoid her controlling brother, Aaron, who is determined to make sure that his sister doesn’t damage herself. Aaron thinks that maybe with Kelsey’s help, he can convince Jasmine to do the right thing.
**This book was given to me by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review** Unfortunately, I had a difficult time finishing this one. The story was well written, I just couldn't get interested in the plot...or the characters.
I don't have a problem with profanity per se, but found Jasmine's character crass and utterly unlikable. Every other word out of her mouth was profane and it added absolutely nothing.
As for the story, it didn't go anywhere. I lost interest and pretty much forced myself to finish the book. This one wasn't for me.
Romance is the underdog of literary fiction. Many may not take the genre seriously, but the evidence doesn't lie, it's a juggernaut. Part of the reason why is because of the ability it has to branch out into other genres and deliver charming and mysterious characters Another reason is because the authors have no problem with making light of themselves. The Right Kind of Guy is the perfect prototype for romance. The cynical heroine brings humour to balance out the overly serious hero. A Vegas romance conference and an over the top romantic adventure make for hysterically tempting pleasure.
The Right Kind of Guy was a likable read. It was a bit too unbelievable for me but it was sweet. I felt like one minute I was hooked in the story but just as quickly I would lose interest. Kelsey was a pretty solid character, but Aaron tended to bother me. I have to be hooked on the hero and I just wasn’t. I like Aaron but I didn’t love him. I would give this story 3 stars. I liked it and if you into how I would describe a fluffy novel then this would but good for you. I just need a bit more depth.
(I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.)
I really liked this book! It was funny, easy to read and very entertaining! The style is great, fresh and fast-paced, and the characters are all loveable in their own way. It felt realistic, which makes it a good contemporary romance in my opinion. I especially liked the dialogues and interactions between the different characters and I recommend it to anyone in search of a nice read.
The Right Kind of Guy by Kerri-Leigh Grady is Book 17 of the What Happens in Vegas Series.
An ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review and I did so voluntarily.
This is an honest hit-the-spot, laugh-out-loud, fast-paced romantic comedy that pokes all kinds of fun and highlights all that we love of the romance genre. Ms. Grady’s writing is beautifully-done and witty. I have found a new author to add to my go-to list. Kudos Ms. Grady!
thanks Netgalley for a copy of the book. his was a great fun read. really loved the main characters. Kelsey didnt think real love existed but only wrote about it. Aaron was a busy man in his career to even want to settle down. with the help of his sister, they both realized what was right in front of them. really liked this book. there is more in the Vegas series.
The premise of this book was very different and quite interesting. Really cute idea. The characters are fun, and there were quite a few laugh-out-loud moments. I didn't feel as much of a connection to the main characters as I wish I had, but I think that had something to do with the book being a little shorter. It was still enjoyable, and I would recommend it to others.
This was a hilarious and light read, just what I needed after a week filled with stress and work. In this book we have Kelsey Spencer who is a bestselling romance novelist, but a disillusioned and cynical one.She is considering writing in other genres and is tired of selling stories that might never happen in real life to starstruck readers. At the Las Vegas Romance Lovers Convention, she meets one of her biggest fans-Jasmine and her brother Aaron.
Jasmine has just been left at the altar by her fiance for another woman, who then proceeded to marry the same woman in Jasmine's dream wedding which she had painstakingly planned.Trying to cope and avoid the pain, she has abandoned her duties and come to Vegas to have fun.She is determined to recreate her romance novel fantasies and have a prince carry her off into a happy ever after. But do Prince Charmings exist in real life or all they all just toads?
In comes Jasmine's brother Aaron- an "alphahole" as we call him.Overprotective, stubborn and overbearing- he wants to keep Jasmine safe from making impulsive decisions. And it looks like she will marry a model who might be after her for just money in what looks like a whirlwind romance just like the novels. He enlists Kelsey's help to knock some sense, considering the fact she is one of Jasmine's favorite authors.
Kelsey also reluctantly agrees and end up spending more time together.Aaron is intrigued by this sexy yet cynical author.Kelsey isn't really impressed with Aaron's alpha tendencies in the beginning, but finds herself unable to resist him.As one crazy thing leads to another, will these two find out whether what they each believe about love is true or not?
This was a fun and relaxing read.It makes fun of the very genre its based on, but still delivers a hilarious and romantic tale. The characters were also well crafted.I really enjoyed reading about Kelsey and Aaron.Their interactions were also amazing.Jasmine was another interesting character.
You should definitely give this book a chance if you're looking for a cute, funny, angst-free romance!!
The Right Kind of Guy is a laugh out loud read with all the feels that come from a great romance story. The book features endearingly potty-mouthed female characters, hunky cover models, and a swoon-worthy hero. The Romance convention backdrop is almost a character itself and provides great opportunities for laughs. One particular scene of convention hi-jinks is burned in my subconscious forever.
I can't wait for the release of Ms. Grady's next novel.
It was a fun read. It was very entertaining to read what Jas might come up with to keep Kelsey and Aaron on the chase. I kind of found it annoying that Jas kept calling Kelsey fucking Spencer all the time she said her name. It got old after the first couple of times she called her that but otherwise a great read!
there is nothing wrong with the right kind of guy. as far as breezy, contemporary romance this fits the bill. it's supposed to be a romantic comedy, which i'm not sure i agree with. unlike hooked on love, also billed as a romantic comedy, i never laughed out loud. but i can see where the author was striving for a light-hearted tone.
the problem is that i found that tone super cringeworthy. the author's voice in the novel sounds like her voice on her blog, which is totally fine, i mean she wrote the book and she writes on her blog. but i just find it kind of...grating? and it felt weird to me that the female lead and the hero's sister would have the exact same voice. because instead of it being something unique and quirky specific to one of the characters, it was something that infused the entire novel. aaron was actually the best part of the novel. the women in the novel were all so annoying. it was just really weird to read. especially in a book written by a woman, for women (mainly).
when aaron has his inevitable blow-up with kelsey, it was so bizarre because that whole scene was exacerbated by his sister's presence. she was really the reason the two characters were unable to talk things through, and so it felt super weird that he was then forced into a ridiculous grand gesture. i really disliked his sister, jasmine. she's the reason he is in vegas, and she's acting like a lunatic, and in the end it was all on purpose to teach her brother a lesson and matchmake? she could have just had a conversation with her brother. the fact that he bears the brunt of their parents' panic and disapproval without any acknowledgement of how not cool it is from her just made me dislike her. it would have been better to just allow the attraction between kelsey and aaron grow without the appearance of intervention from jasmine. it would have happened anyway, so why does she need to take credit for it?
so, i think i would have liked this book better without the irritating secondary character. at least the cover is pretty?
**the right kind of guy will publish on october 17, 2016. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/entangled publishing in exchange for my honest review.
Romance novelist Kelsey is trying to convince her agent, Deena, of her decision to write thrillers instead. Yes, she's a successful writer in the romance genre, but Kelsey personally doesn't believe in true love having already gone through a divorce after learning her hero was truly a zero. How can she write about something she doesn't believe in? During a convention, Kelsey meets Jasmine, a fan she'd only met online previously, one that helped to spark her muse in the romance genre again due to her insight into a certain trope. However, Jasmine suddenly gets nervous upon spotting a man in the crowd and apologetically has to leave Kelsey’s table. Kelsey, feeling a kinship with Jasmine, offers to act as a distraction.
Aaron is only trying to help his younger sister, Jasmine. She hasn't been acting herself lately, starting with calling off her wedding. Now she's at a romance convention, determined to find her own real life fairy tale, and he doesn't know how to help. Ooh, maybe since Kelsey is Jasmine's favorite author she'd be willing to talk "some sense" into Jasmine since she refuses to listen to him.
Aaron quickly realizes two things. One, how beautiful Kelsey is and two, the situation with Jasmine is more dire than he thought. It seems Jasmine met Rick while there in Vegas, falling madly in love, and a wedding is imminent. Kelsey, feeling guilty that her romance novels have helped perpetuate Jasmine's fantasy fueled actions, agrees to help the gorgeous Aaron bring his sister back from the edge of what will undoubtedly be a disaster.
As Aaron and Kelsey work together to thwart Jasmine's plans, the time they spend together leads to their attraction growing into so much more than either expected. But they come from different worlds, Aaron being groomed to take over the family business one day, always traveling, and Kelsey, spending her childhood in and out of foster homes carefully watching how she spends money.
Will Jasmine go through with her plans? Will Aaron and Kelsey continue trying to stop her? Or will Aaron let Kelsey live her own life instead of always stepping in to prevent any type of crisis? Is Jasmine merely teaching Aaron a much needed lesson? Will Aaron continue working for the family business? Or will he finally quit, realizing he can only achieve the life he wants to have away from his father's dictates? Will Kelsey learn that true love does exist? Will Aaron and Kelsey get a real life HEA? Or was their time together simply an escape from real life for a short time?
One-click now to find out what happens when two people decide to take a chance on each other and learn that fairy tales do exist.
I will say, and this is purely my personal opinion, while this was a cute story, the lengths Jasmine was willing to go to to show she wanted to live life her way, without any interference from her protective older brother and highly lacking paternal influence of a father, was a little farfetched. Granted, Aaron didn't have to follow her to Vegas, but seeing as how Aaron has always looked out for Jasmine it's a reasonable assumption that he would. Also, as this is a novella the speed of the story is understandable, yet at times it came off a little too rushed, but then again, maybe that was the point as its purpose is to mirror a fairy tale brought to life for the main characters.
