Butterfly

Rate this book
Butterfly can be read as a standalone. It is a dark romance and contains content some readers may find disturbing.

I once was Erin, fierce and strong,
But now she's gone, I don't belong.
He wants my heart, but it's not mine.
I've hidden it, and now can't find
The soul it once took solace in.
All that's left is pain and sin.
But still, my dark knight keeps me here.
To live in hate and dread and fear.
So what will happen once he knows,
The more he hurts me, the more I grow?
The faster I flourish in the dark,
The harder I fight to leave my mark.
When his mind swallows me whole,
When he finds my heart as black as coal,
Will he save me from his hell,
Or remind me just how hard I fell?
I once was Erin, fierce and strong.
Now this pitch black world is where I belong.
I've waved the girl I was goodbye.
Now I am his Butterfly...

5 AMAZING STARS!

A brutal, beautifully written story of self discovery through darkness. I bow to Rebecca Sherwin! She captured my attention from the get go. She chained me in the tower. She made me whither in pain. She tore me down, lifted me up, and destroyed me all in one book.

You see, butterflies are more than pretty little things that flutter blissfully in the garden. At least this one won’t flutter off—I wouldn’t if I could. This butterfly will kill. This butterfly will own. This butterfly will conquer death and hover over it on black wings stained with blood, watching on as the beauty of life slips away beneath her.

What a blend of dark romance, suspense, mystery, and unforgiving hope. I clutched my kindle in hopes of some light within the madness. And it was delivered in a twisted package. Caterpillar. Oh, Caterpillar. Reading the first part, maybe through the first half, I related to her. Honestly, I could see myself saying/doing these things. I mean, especially if you've read captive stories. I was laughing in one moment... Then my face would feel hot, I had this uncomfortable feeling of loss. I went through this story like I was there, in vivid detail. What are we dealing with? I FUCKING LOVE unpredictable behavior, motives, turns. And this book was like a maze of thorns. Every way I turned, I was pricked, bleeding and I needed more.

"There’s a bad side to every good guy, caterpillar, but there’s a flicker of light inside every demon.”

“I know.”

Not just a captive story here, folks. Not just the need to find out what makes a person tick. It's a need to find a solution in the insanity that keeps you hostage. The battle of two wills. The connection that binds two souls. The loss, and gain of power.

Cooper stole me. He drowned me in the only place I felt safe, slashing through the sanctuary and taking it from me forever.

I will officially read anything Rebecca Sherwin writes. I'm completely in love with her storytelling. Butterfly is complex and everything I long for in a dark romance. I highly recommend.

This one just didn't do it for me. I understand where the author was trying to go, but I just couldn't seem to get there.

The story is mostly about Erin, a once professional swimmer turned coach, who had to leave competition for reasons we don't find out about until late in the story (even though it is brought up ad nauseam to the point where you're just like ugh! freakin' tell me already! She's engaged to Griffin, but there's zero chemistry between them, and Erin is pretty meh about their relationship.
Enter Cooper--he's mysterious and sexy, and Erin has an immediate reaction to him that both scares her and thrills her. But wait! She's engaged... Eh, whatever, she'll just go with it and keep going to the pool in the middle of the night to see if she runs into him. She even steals his towel from the pool and has special time with her hand while lying in her bed next to her fiancé and smelling it.

This is where things get weird... you know, because the towel thing wasn't strange.

Cooper is crazy, and he kidnaps her. BUT, she has multiple chances to leave and doesn't because she's "in love with an ex-swimming secret agent with personality disorders." Yes, that sums up Cooper and the theme of this book nicely. Erin continues to make bad decisions and huge, ridiculous leaps of logic that make zero sense to anybody but her. For example, she sees a teddy bear on the floor and automatically assumes her captor has killed a child. What? Where does she get that? And speaking of captor, he can hold you captive and you would be in captivity, but you would never be in "captivation" which is throughout the book...

The twists that follow are bizarre and full of violence that I felt was only good for shock value. Griffin's later appearance made little to no sense, and I felt like the author was trying to make this elaborate, crazy twist, but all it did was have me scratching my head and thinking why?

Butterfly by Rebecca Sherwin
***5 stars***

Holy crazy town batman! What did I just read? I’m still not sure, but I definitely want more…NOW! Rebecca Sherwin is a mad genius, and has gone far off the grid of normal with this awesomely twisted story I won’t soon forget.

Being an ex-professional swimmer, Erin likes the solace of a quiet pool at night. This is where she happens to come in contact with a mysterious stranger, Cooper, who definitely gets her attention. Cooper soon becomes much more than a passing stranger, and changes Erin’s life forever.

Cooper has one of the most brilliantly chaotic minds I’ve ever had the pleasure of being inside. I had a split second of hatred towards him, but I just couldn’t do it. He captured my crazed heart and I willingly let him.

Erin is wonder woman in my eyes! Being thrown to the wolf, she stands on her own two feet and fights for her life. Trying to figure out Cooper, his way of thinking and doing what he does would make any person insane, but she stands her ground and realizes her purpose in all of it. Absolutely brilliant, a definite must read for any dark genre lover, who is tempted by the madness of a sexy broken man.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review

Whenever I open one of Rebecca Sherwin's books and fall into one of her dark and devious worlds, I know that I could never be prepared for what I am going to encounter. She often has my heart and emotions a tangled, ripped, and shredded mess and leaves me with an even darker craving than before. The only thing I am sure of is that there will be all kinds of evil and monsters that will blur the lines between white and black until they are the ugliest color of grey that you have ever seen.

Rebecca takes us into a new reality that is chlorine soaked, ambition driven, with feverish spikes of hate filled desire that leave Erin Thompson muddled with confusion and thrumming with desire. Where she used to have a life of swimming and safety in the arms of her fiance, she now has a hate for her captor and a need and thirst for him that no amount of deviance can squelch. Her emotions are a constant ebb and flow that leave her and the reader beguiled.

Cooper Jennings is mystery with a dark edge that finds himself with an obsession for a woman that could lead to death and destruction of both their lives. While he holds Erin captive, she takes bits and pieces of him captive as well and no good could come from these two twisted souls becoming one. Cooper kept me tied in knots and waiting his “crazy” to emerge again to play with his caterpillar's dark soul.

Rebecca Sherwin delivers an erotic tale that will have you feel every biting lash, tender lick, scratch and scream for freedom that Erin suffers, endures, and glories in. I highly recommend this murky, intense, heart palpitating read that will keep you in suspense and swimming in waves of desire. Butterfly is an enigmatic and ambiguous story that will feed both your fear and anticipation in equal measures with every page.

Erin used to be a professional swimmer. Now she swims alone at night. One night after her swim she bumps (literally) into stranger Cooper Jennings. Feeling the pull of him, she says her goodbyes and leaves not expecting to see him again. But Cooper has a plan for Erin and it's not long before her life is changed forever.

I absolutely adored this story. It's so beautifully twisted. There's nothing I love more than a messed up, slightly deranged man and Cooper ticked all my boxes. Such a brilliant, complex character that I really enjoyed getting into his head.

Erin is a surprisingly strong character. When most people would break, she thrives. Playing Coopers mind games and trying to understand him helps her to survive. But nothing's ever easy or straight forward in Rebecca's books and this one is no different.

Full of twists, completely unpredictable, fantastic characters and a story that really did pull me in and that will stay with me for ages, this is one of my favourite books in a long time.

Well, didnt see that one coming! This book is what I expect from Rebecca Sherwin!!! Its full of page turning excitement, twists and turns, then wait for it.......YUP!!! WOW, what's a person to do when from a young age, you are primed to become the gold medal winner for swimming...then one day everything changes. You are made to believe you made the right decision and still have a life working with your old coach, teaching kids and seeing them flourish. You have met the man you are engaged to and life is 'good'....
Erin swims every night alone when no one else is there...she uses this time to find herself. Let go of the negative and thrive on the positive... One night while swimming alone, this mysterious man appears...this never happens, this is her time to swim.
Cooper, who is this man!!! Hot Hot Hot is who he is. Knows what he wants and Takes what he wants... No holds barred!
Great read!!! 4.5 Stars

Massive disappointment.

I love this author and have devoured her previous books - her writing has always been strong BUT this one left me flat.

I tried to get my brain round the complexity of this book and the characters but my brain switched off and gave up.

I thought this storyline was over complicated just for the sake of it and honestly thought that Rebecca Sherwin could have done better. This book was (for me) was too predictable and once you have read one captive book then you have read them all. Maybe I have just overdone the whole captive thing and my expectations have increased - I have become too cynical with these stories and expect something that is outside the box - something different. For me this one didn't work.

To say that a warning is necessary would be an understatement. There is most definitely non-consensual sexual violence in this book.

I had a lot of trouble reading this book. It didn't glorify non-consensual acts so much as excuse them for the most part. There are some seriously blurred lines which was intentional and some blatant disregard.

Though I have read many a dark romance and enjoyed them, I can't say I did this one. It is well written and definitely keeps you confused with the moral ambiguity but I just couldn't appreciate the overall F@CKEDUPNESS- totally a word.

I personally am torn up inside by the disgusting nature of the whole situation. However, I know there are those that like this kind of book. And in a weird sense of responsibility I want to read the next just to verify the safety of a character, but I can't put my mind through that kind of torture again.

I'm not even sure how to rate this honestly.

Wow wow wow! A truly exceptional, and unique read.
Beautifully written, this was a dark, intense psychological mindf€€k thriller.
Not in a long time have I read a book so captivating, so emotional, I had to put the book down before slamming my poor kindle across the room. Tragic and haunting the characters were beautifully developed. Behind all the darkness and cruelty, there's a story of self discovery, sacrifice and love.
Erin was a former Olympic swimmer who left that life under mysterious circumstances. She has secrets and demons she tries to hide by settling into a comfortable and safe life.
When she meets Cooper at her swimming pool, despite their mutual attraction, she gets an unsettling feeling from him. Soon her fear is justified when he kidnaps her and keeps her captive, punishing her for minor infractions and forcing her to purge feelings and actions from her past she never wanted to remember in order to avoid further punishment.
He knows things about her that he shouldn't.
How?
Who is he?
What's his motive?
Why did he kidnap her?
I didn't want to like Cooper or even Erin. My first impression was that he was bat shit crazy, mean spirited, sadistic, unpredictable and highly volatile. She was too wishy washy.
But as the story unfolded, Erin learns that to survive her capture and avoid further punishment her true nature starts revealing itself, showing that she's really a strong force to contend with. In the process, Cooper makes Erin understand and recognize unmentionable truths about her past, the people in her life she thought she could trust and their connection which manipulated her to be so insecure and passive. She begins to realize that her captor is really her savior. Cooper may have his mental health issues but he shows her, he owns them, and in so doing, he frees her to be who she really is and who she deserves to be.
Why?
Who are the real monsters?
How are they all connected?
In the end, I adored these characters, and I take back what I said about Cooper and Erin. They were 2 tortured souls looking for something only they could give each other.
I do wish the ending was a little more developed.

OMG!!!!!!What a book. Wow. I am just blown away by this story. I was just in awe. After I finished reading Butterfly, I was rendered speechless. No words could come out at all. That is why I love books by Rebecca Sherwin. She gives me books that make me totally insane and speechless. I love every moment of it. Butterfly is a beautiful, dark and suspenseful masterpiece that had me in a trance.

I am not going to say what the book is about. You need to fully go with your instincts with Butterfly and experience this book without knowing what the book is about. It is a wild ride, trust me. But it is wild ride that you do not come off at all. Butterfly had that gorgeous energy and darkness that had me totally captivated. My eyes could not leave the book at all. I was completely mesmerized. Rebecca Sherwin is a genius. Her writing in Butterfly is so flawless. Butterfly was so full of angst and that I was so moved by the storyline that I almost cried. Yep, I am weirdo. Lol. That's magical about Butterfly. It just pulls you in till you become affected by the scenes in the book. I was truly affected. Butterfly was seeping with mystery and suspense that my heart was pumping wanting to know what is going to happen next. I loved it.

Butterfly is not a romance. Don't be fooled by the beautiful cover. It has some very dark elements that can give you some nightmares but trust me, this story is so addictive, crazy, insane and just so damn beautiful. If you love dark romance and suspense, then this is the book to read.

This is only the second book by this author that I have read - the first one was when she collaborated with Dawn H Sidebottom on Binary Code which I loved.
This book is really well written and the story is OK, but I felt with the subject matter that it dealt with, that it could of been darker and explored so much more, which would have meant maybe going into more detail with the subject in matter and therefore it could have been more exciting, with more anticipation and much more depth.
I found it really hard to warm to the characters, I didn't gel with any of them and I have read some really evil books and loved the leads, even the bad boys, but I'm afraid not with this one.
Yes it is a mind f*** and a twisted read and I think the second half excelled the first but I guessed some of the plot and the twist towards the end.
I read it and enjoyed it to a certain extent but it was just not for me, but It certainly won't deter me reading this author again though and I look forward to reading some of her other work.

When you read a novel by Rebecca Sherwin, you know you get a story that will push you out of your comfort zone, challenge your morals and make you think. These are exactly the reasons why she is one of my favourite authors.

This novel deals with serious issues ie abuse, mental illness and Stockholm Syndrome. The latter was a new subject for me and it was fascinating.

Cooper and Caterpillar are characters that you will be intrigued by. Cooper is an enigma from the first time he is introduced and you cannot help but wonder what his story is. When you find out what it is, it is heartbreaking.

Caterpillar is a character that was so real and “human” that she is instantly relatable. She has made mistakes like all of us and is now living with the consequences.

It would not be a Rebecca Sherwin novel without a cliffhanger and boy, did this one deliver!

This is a dark romance filled with graphic scenes and is not for those looking for rainbows and unicorns. But it is raw and very real.

FIVE STARS.

First thing I will say if you don't like dark dark books then this won't be for you.
Erin was a swimmer on the fast track to glory when she walked away from it all, we know she made a mistake but we don't know what, now she's a coach helping others reach their dreams. One night whilst swimming alone she encounters Cooper she's intrigued and drawn to him, she knows she should run she didn't but she really should have.
Cooper is a scary man who seems to have a plan but he has more personalities than you can count he flips from crazy and violent to tender and loving. It took a while to understand Erin but as the book goes on she is revealed layer by layer.
There are so many secrets and twists and turns, just when I thought I had it figured out Rebecca throws a grenade in the story with surprises I never saw coming.
If you like a crazy deranged anti-hero then you will love Cooper and Erin.

Oh my frigging god! This book! This author! Its the first time I've read a Rebecca Sherwin book and I was blown away. Her writing is so addictive, I was turning the pages and staying up far later than I wanted to because I just NEEDED to. The way she gets you to love and hate Cooper at the same time is beyond clever - I was doubting my own sanity and thinking WTF is wrong with me? Rarely do you find books that stay with you and leave you thinking about what you would have done throughout the day. For those that have read - thank god for that extra chapter!! Fully recommend to anyone who loves a dark read x

Holy hell! I cannot find the words to actually write this review so will start with OMFG and let me tell you, my head is seriously messed up. This is truly a dark and brutal book but holy caterpillar, it's freaking awesome!

Rebecca Sherwin's writing is so addictive and powerful, you can't help but keep turning the pages. I was hooked from page 1.

Butterfly is full of twists, head f**ks and Violence. If you don't like dark books then this is definitely not for you but if you love to be horrified then get reading now and I promise you, you will not be disappointed.

This review of Butterfly by Rebecca Sherwin is for The Sweet Spot Sisterhood Blog. It gets 5 Stars from me. Rebecca Sherwin is a new author to me. I am also a new fan of dark romances. So if you like dark and twisted then Butterfly is definitely for you. Do not tread lightly into this book, especially if you have triggers. This book involves kidnapping, rape, sodomy, etc. This book also deals with Stockholm Syndrome, which is where the victim starts to identify with their captor. This book had me all over the place emotionally. I really want to hate Cooper for what he has done to Erin, but in all actuality I want them to be together. She anchors him and that is what he needs. This book is so wrong, but Erin and Cooper are so right for each other. Fate has a way of bringing two people together and Rebecca Sherwin does an amazing job of writing this.

Butterfly is the story of Erin aka Caterpillar and Cooper. Erin was a promising swimmer with Olympic dreams only to have them ripped away when they were right in front of her. Several years have passed and she is an assistant swimming coach living with and engaged to Griffin. Cooper shows up one night while Erin is swimming. She is fascinated yet alarmed by him. A few days later while swimming, Cooper drowns, revives, and kidnaps her. This is where Cooper and his Caterpillar's story begins.

Butterfly
"The concept of Stockholm Syndrome plays in my mind. Feelings of trust or affection from captive to captor. I’m not stupid—I know that was his plan; to make me trust him, feel for him, while he broke me beyond repair. I’m not buying it. There’s something deeper. Something so powerful, no amount of therapy or talking it through will save me. Nothing can reverse the effects of his abuse. Nothing will alter the impact his love has had on me. On my soul. On my ability, and want, to spread my wings and fly away from the hell that has become my home. “Ready, darling?” he asks, when he loosens my bindings and takes my hand. I nod. “Time for my little caterpillar to become a butterfly.” I’m ready. I’ve been ready for some time. But I won’t go alone. Oh no. I’ll take my captor with me. The man who stole me from the life I loved and made me fall for the life I loathe. I won’t be going alone. Without him I’m nothing, he made sure of that. But without me, he won’t survive. You see, butterflies are more than pretty little things that flutter blissfully in the garden. At least this one won’t flutter off—I wouldn’t if I could. This butterfly will kill. This butterfly will own. This butterfly will conquer death and hover over it on black wings stained with blood, watching on as the beauty of life slips away beneath her."

I finished reading Butterfly yesterday evening. I posted in Rebecca's Romantics with the following message:
"I've just finished Butterfly.
Rebecca, I don't know if I love you or hate you right now.
I think its going to take me a long time to process what I've just read and find the words to review it. (If there are even the right words to explain my feelings for this book)
But I will say this: I love Cooper Jennings!!!"

Now after having over 12 hours to think about it and process this book in my mind, I'm still no closer to finding the right words to explain my feelings for this it.

I love ALL of Rebecca's books, if she is releasing something new then I'm the first there one clicking.
I love the cover and the blurb. The blurb got my interest going without giving anything away. But it made me want to read more to find out what would be happening. The cover is a perfect representation of the story. But don't be fooled by it being a pretty cover of a butterfly.
The story wasn't anything like I expected, it's dark, twisted and a complete mind f*ck which honestly I wouldn't expect anything less from Rebecca.

Cooper Jennings is complete and absolute d*ck at the beginning of the book, I actually hated him when I started reading. But he has so much more to him then meets the eye and you slowly feel yourself starting to like him. You try to resist, bloody hell did I? But you can't.
There are some VERY dark parts in this book, some that are hard to read. But you need to, in order to understand the whole story. I was so hoping for a different ending then the one we got. I like the fact that Rebecca put in a alternate ending, but honestly the first one was the one that suited the story the best.

Thank you Rebecca for bringing Cooper and Erin into our lives. I think their story is one that will play on in my mind for a long time.

"Did you know, that a butterfly dies if you touch its wings? Right now, you're my caterpillar, striving to be something . I'm going to fill you up with deviance, little caterpillar, make you crave the next hit. And then, when you emerge from your cocoon a beautiful butterfly, I'm going to grab you by your tiny little wings and crush you beneath my palm."

I'm struggling to find the words right now...but I'm going to try.
Warning: Don't be fooled by the stunning cover - this book is a serious mind f**k and the contents within is some seriously dark and twisty reading.

I expected dark. Heck, when I first met the mysterious Cooper my instant dislike for him and his ways would take some time to thaw....but it did. Very slowly. This man goes beyond everything you know and turns it on its head. Cooper suffers multiple mental health issues from psychosis and personality disorders to name a couple. So when our leading lady learns that she's been in his sights for some time, it all unravels from there on in.

The twists and turns in this book kept me on my toes, but admit to finding some scenes hard to read. But alongside that comes the "sliver of light". The moments where we see a very complicated man, less so. And it's those moments we all hope for the individuals with their own motives.

Excerpt:
Did you know, that a butterfly dies if you touch its wings? Right now, you're my caterpillar, striving to be something . I'm going to fill you up with deviance, little caterpillar, make you crave the next hit. And then, when you emerge from your cocoon a beautiful butterfly, I'm going to grab you by your tiny little wings and crush you beneath my palm.

People think butterflies and they think growth, rebirth, new beginnings. In my opinion, Cooper fed his 'Caterpillar' all the information she needed to see those around her in all the way she didn't before.

I don't know what else to say without giving away too many spoilers. What I can say is that despite not having read many stories with alternate endings, I'm so pleased this one did!

Final excerpt:
I finally know what love means. I thought I loved her enough to kill her, but actually, I love her enough to let her go. "Ready to spread your wings, Butterfly?"

A truly dark, terrifying and downright wrong book you can't help but read more.
Just brilliant.

I ate this story up. Let me warn you up front. This story is dark and basically remains dark the entire time. It has many topics that can be triggers. That being said this author knows how to grip your being and not let it go. The writing was so smooth that you just keep reading. Erin thinks she has the everyday normal life but she will soon find out she knows nothing about her life. I don't even know how to accurately describe my feelings. You keep waiting for things to get better and you realize things can always get worst. This was about self discovery through darkness. Finding who you are and what you want to live for. Can we all be lucky enough to find our other half? Even when we have issues that aren't always repairable, we can find that person that can help calm our rough seas. This story although very dark does let you see that we can find someone who sees the real you and love you through it. Cooper has never found someone who helps calm his inner war. And when he finally does will his caterpillar be ripped from him? You must read this story if you like dark reads and find out what happens. I promise you this is a story that stays with you well after you read the last word. I can't wait for the next book.

Okay..hold the damn phone!

Seriously!

How do I get back and how do I get more?!?

Erin, the girl who likes the quiet peace that comes from being in a pool and being the best. Swimming is her passion, its her, at night when she swims she can just let go everything. Until letting go puts her in a situation she never saw coming down the lane.

Cooper, mysterious man who is just chaos in one word. Oh how I wanted to just be mad at him and just go towards hate but damn it I could not do it! Such a complex man.

Reading this story makes you realize how far you must come to be strong. Through Erin and what she goes through makes you see that even in the toughest times the most you can do is remain strong. I found myself smiling and then I took a deep breath and continued reading. I just couldn't stop with this book.

If you love the genre of dark and some inspiration on strength then this is the read for you.

The definition of metamorphosis is the epitome of this book.

Metamorphosis within the chrysalis the old body parts of the caterpillar undergo this remarkable transformation to become the beautiful parts that make up the butterfly that will emerge.

This book is not just a book about some whacko that captures the girl to make his. It is a story about survival, rebirth, and learning to live within the confines of debilitating disorders.

Although the cover is enchanting and graceful, do not let it mislead you. This is not a story about rainbow, unicorns, cupcakes and butterflies. It is dark, evil, and harsh. But it is so worth the trip to take.

There’s a bad side to every good guy, caterpillar, but there’s a flicker of light inside every demon.

When you step into the mind of Rebecca Sherwin you never know what you will see but she always leaves you spinning and with your mouth wide open in awe. I am enchanted with each and every one of her books that she writes.

I love Rebecca but I didn't love this tale. I enjoyed it but it didn't engage me. Maybe I just didn't care about the characters enough, I don't know. Sorry.

Dark/ok read

The book was a really dark read. Even though the story was ok. base on the last page. If there's going to be another book with Doe in mind, I don't want to read it; I don't have the stomach for it. Brad and his brother smh nope. Erin parents was weird and shouldn't be parents and I didn't understand the point with Griffin at the end.

Once again, the author has left me completely lost for words! I truly do worry for the state of this author's mind! That said I do hope she never ever changes, as it makes her books so delightfully disturbing to read. (maybe this means I should be concerned for my own state of mind too).

Butterfly was one of very few books that I read & reread straight away. Why? Because I couldn't believe how much l loved Cooper & Caterpillar. That said I didn't love Cooper from the very beginning, I initially thought that Cooper was a little creepy which morphed into crazy.

"I'm. Not. Crazy, he seethes, stroking his thumb over my bottom lip."

Now? Now I don't know how I'd describe Cooper. Tortured? Messed up?

Erin 'Caterpillar' used to swim professionally but now she just enjoys a solitary peaceful night time swim, then one night that changes and this mysterious stranger invades her peace. This stranger appears a few more times at the pool and Erin learns his name is Cooper. There is a mutual attraction but Erin also feels unsettled in Cooper's presence. Erin tries to ignore the feeling and continues with the safe life that she settled for with her fiance. But then things changed. Cooper is mysterious, disturbed, unhinged & dangerously attractive. Cooper has Erin in his sights & he has a plan for her. The question is: Is Cooper's plan good or bad?

Upon starting Butterfly I was hooked, I hated knowing that I had to put down my kindle to do real life stuff, I even walked down 3 flights of stairs still reading because I just didn't want to stop reading. Butterfly is different to the author's other books but its no less dark & twisted. Its full of suspense & twists that had me on the edge of my seat & gripping my kindle so hard my knuckles were white.

The characters are fantastic. They are developed & complex. They show emotion in the things they do. They are realistic & so easy to relate too. If I had been in Erin's shoes I don't know if I would have handled things in the same way but it was definitely believable and realistic. Each character plays a key role & adds more depth to the over all plot.

The plot is carefully & intelligently laid out for us to follow. It has a great pace, flows really well & keeps your mind captive until the very end. The author's writing style is dark, raw, gritty & emotional.

I found Butterfly to be a page turner from the beginning & a powerful story that is compelling & extremely thought provoking. If you haven't yet read Butterfly I think you should go & grab a copy, then get to know Cooper & Caterpillar.

I have thoroughly loved every page of Butterfly. It has been so hard trying to express my true feelings without posting spoilers! This is an amazing book & I have no choice but to give it...

A huge 5* rating

5 Stars!!!

I was given this book in turn for an honest review.

Will Erin thrive within the darkness and fly? Or will she die trying to fly?

Butterfly will grab a hold of your heart and mind and entwine itself so tight you will struggle to breath. And without any doubt it's a story you won't ever forget. Rebecca Sherwin has put her heart and soul into this story and shown us just how talented and passionate she truly is.

Erin is a strong and independent woman; she is fierce and talented, whilst at the same time has a lost soul searching for some kind of solace.

When Erin finds her life ripped away from her she finds a lot more than she bargained for and fights emotions she didn't even realise she had.

Erin should hate her captor and yet her soul calls to his. I too felt I should hate him and yet I found the man both intriguing and frustrating; an enigma begging to be understood and set free.

I believed her captor's intentions to be for his own benefit and yet I found he had a much bigger motive, one that showed he had a heart; one with compassion, love and care. I found myself wanting to help him and fight for both their freedom’s.

Their path is non-conventional, it's troubled, dark, twisted and full of deceit. Their souls were bound for each other but the devil stepped in and lead them on a darker path. The angels were sleeping when they needed them most and somehow they finally found a way to discover the depth in which their souls connected and found a way to fight!

Butterfly however isn't without its characters that you will despise. You will want to crawl into your kindle and rip them apart limb by limb. Some characters will also surprise you. You will think they don't hold a key to the deeper, darker story and suddenly you discover they hold a much bigger key than you could ever imagine.

I found myself completely invested in Butterfly by Rebecca Sherwin and I recommend this book for suspense romance readers who also enjoy a twisted, slightly dark angle.

"This butterfly will conquer death and hover over it on black wings stained with blood, watching on as the beauty of life slips away beneath her."

Obsession, mental health disorders...madness in its purest form. To become a butterfly you must first live your life as a caterpillar. This is a story of evolution, survival and a battle of wills. Conditioned from an early age Erin has a secret that caused her to not reach her potential. Having dedicated her life to the water she walked away from the accolades and opportunity to be the best because the fear of her past sins being exposed was too great. Settled in a mundane yet seemingly normal existence she questions her reality when Cooper Jennings appears in her private space late at night. What then happens is the next stage in her journey to becoming the butterfly she was always destined to be...

A captor/captive story with a twist of psychological elements, Erin experiences life as a caterpillar and finds her way through the maze of her existence. The truth is not what she expected and her resilience is tested to the brink of breaking. Some scenes are brutal and I loved the use of imagery which added a beautiful and hopeful edge to the darkness. Its well written and my only disappointment is the ending. I loved the bonus scene and without that I think I would have thrown my Kindle at something. I wanted the dance in the blood of those that had done her wrong...I loved the bloodthirsty butterfly concept! Other than that I thoroughly enjoyed the depravity of this story and the evilness that man perpetrates simply because of the need for more...more power, sex, control. I can't wait for the next book in the series as I need to know if Doe surpasses her Father in the crazy stakes!

A four star fluttering read.

Butterfly by Rebecca Sherwin

I've read some books by Rebecca before and I wasn't really sure what to expect with this book. The saying don't judge a book by its cover absolutely comes into play here!
The cover is simply stunning in all its beautiful winged glory and fantastic colours to match.

So the story starts off and I honestly thought it was going to be a little less dark than Rebecca s usual style erm… wrong. I also thought it wouldn't live up to the brilliantly sick reputation she has earned for herself through other books… wrong again!

The writing style is good and I absolutely adored some of the very British sayings in this book they made me LOL on more than one occasion!
So you keep reading and then you work out where this story is going and I can assure you, you are so so so wrong! The plot twists that this story comes out with are impeccably plotted and shows that we still have the writing we have all grown to love from Rebecca.

The characters are well thought out and some you will hate then love, others you want to slap and some you just want to jump in the page and slit their throat!

I will however warn you.. and please take it seriously! Nothing and I MEAN nothing can or will prepare you for the ending of this book!
I loved every single moment of reading this book and devoured it in under 24 hours! There are no plot holes and all the story ties in perfectly… that's all I'm saying.
Buy it, read it, love it!

description

I'm a fan of dark and unpredictable and that is exactly what we had here. I haven't as thankful for an epilogue in a very long time, regardless this book left me in a state of awe. Things do not go as you think they will, twists and turns are around every corner and the moral of the story is do not swim alone at night...or maybe you should.

Erin was an Olympic swimmer until she wasn't. She is happy with her life, but the reasons why are lost to me. And then she meets Cooper. Cooper is a bit scary, a lot dark, completely messed up but I was bizarrely attracted to him. I mean who doesn't love an evil genius who has a whole host of issues and locks you in a tower?

Erin is a strong character, stronger than you expect her to be and she kept surprising me. When you think her spirit should be broken she does things that make you realize it's not. She is a fixer, a pusher and even though it takes her a long time to see her life as it is, she is a force. Her and Cooper have this attraction and chemistry that will likely be their demise. This does leave you will room for some more craziness and I can't wait to see what twisted tale this author will come up with next. Her stories are dark in the best of way and where they take you is always an unplanned adventure.
