Resources to support The Episcopal Church and beyond—from official worship materials, such as hymnals and prayer books, to professional resources for clergy, lay leaders, and the wider church community.
This 1940 Hymnal was usually red, as in the current photo, not blue as in this bibliographic listing. It was the pew hymnal of choice (virtually mandated, in fact) in Episcopal (U.S. Anglican) congregations between 1940 and the mid-1980s, when the new and indeed blue "HYMNAL 1982" became the norm. This 1940 hymnal still occupies a fond place in Episcopalian hearts, not only from hymns remembered at services, but because two generations of confirmands (new adolescent church members) were often given it as a present. It speaks well to the history and heritage of this hymnal that it can still be bought new through the church. However, you are unlikely to find it in actual use.
