My one and only paper copy of Hideyoshico sensei’s works, it came as a gift from a kind seller. The 3rd book in the xx Kun & xx Kun series, and it’s the most touching story. I couldn’t stop crying for the two hours when I was reading this manga at night, the story is so pure and beautiful.
My favorite character here is actually the uke’s grandpa, and the famous line 月が綺麗ですね (the moon is beautiful) from Japanese novelist 夏目漱石 Natsume Sōseki. So sad to read about the unfruitful love between the two grandpas due to the era they were born, luckily their grandsons are able to pursue their true feelings in the new age.
The seme 三崎 is the eldest kid from a poor family and the uke 明治 春人 is the son of the high school chairman. The seme’s always selling stuff in school to earn pocket money for his younger siblings, and he always get told off by the rich uke along with his two followers.
The seme’s dad passed away in an accident 3 years ago and his mom is working far away from home, so he’s been taking care of his many younger siblings. Until one day that his mom got sent to the hospital and he thought about dropping out of school to support the family.
After visiting the seme’s shabby old house and seen the condition of his younger siblings, the uke felt bad about all the mean things he’s said to the seme. They live in very different worlds, one is down to earth and one is up in the ivory tower…
The uke’s grandpa and seme’s grandpa met when they were 16, studied together back in the days and became friends despite their different personalities. The uke’s grandpa would use his pocket money to buy books and he likes to watch the seme’s grandpa eat. Unfortunately Japan went through tough times during the war, the seme’s grandpa saved the uke’s grandpa’s life when his leg got bombed in the air raid, told him to not give up on life and repay back once he’s rich.
After which the seme’s grandpa confessed to the uke’s grandpa through the line from Natsume Sōseki, they never made it clear. The uke’s grandpa was the moon that revolved around the seme’s grandpa the sun. The seme’s grandpa got married at age 20 and had kids very early, whereas the uke’s grandpa finally got married at age 30 through arrange marriage…
The uke’s grandpa is paying the debt by funding the seme through high school, in exchange for him to be a “lover”. The seme really look identical to his grandpa, especially as he’s wearing his grandpa’s old uniform with many patches.
The uke’s grandpa enjoys hanging out with the seme just making memories in daily life. Going to the park, paddle the boat, eat crepe… During the time the uke’s grandpa would appear in his younger version self and look like a high school boy too. It’s like he found youthfulness and able to rewrite the regrets of his younger days.
The uke’s had crush on the seme but he feels hopeless about not being able to help seme’s family situation because he’s not an adult. His grandpa also tried to encourage him to step up the game otherwise he will lose. The uke learned to be true to his own feelings, put away his pride and get his hands dirty, helping the seme to sell bottle mountain spring water at school.
The seme eventually found the uke cute and liked seeing his smile. When the uke gave him a bouquet of expansive roses, he was shocked that money would be spent on non-edible things but his younger sister shown him that flowers can brighten up the home.
The uke and his grandpa are both good at studying and love to read. Whereas the seme and his grandpa started work early as blue collars. The seme came back to high school 10 years later to repay the school fee to the new chairman the uke, and the two of them finally got together… Until the uke’s grandpa came into the office and saw them kissing.
I read this on the 23rd and I really enjoyed it. I liked the main characters but the grandfather was really weird. It kinda freaked me out 😅I think this could have been a bit longer because sometimes I just would have wanted a bit more information and insight for the characters and on the story of the grandfather. There were times I was a bit confused because I was not sure what was really going on. The story was not outstanding but still really good. Because it is so short it doesn't take long to read it. I recommend this to you, even though it is not amazing, but it is a nice, cute story for in between.
Es una historia bastante linda con más de un par de momentos tiernos, pero es un tanto extraña en algunos puntos, además de que el final se sintió muy abrupto, además de que la relación de los protagonistas tiene varios hilos sueltos.
This is the purest, most disgusting, cavity inducing bullshit ever. Contrived as hell. I made my friend drag the tankoban over from Japan to North America. 10/10
