In this first book in the Zee Town Cozy Mystery Series, things are going great for Cassie March, Zee Town's tourism manager. She's planning the fifth Zee Town Carnival, her placid zombies are happy, and the sun is shining.

But her blissful life doesn't last for long. Bert Figgins, a local businessman, is murdered, and all eyes are on the zombies. Cassie finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation headed up by the grumpy police sergeant Nick Morton, accompanied by his faithful three-legged dog, Stool.

With the help of her friends, eccentric doctor, Selina, local baker, Laura, and best friend, Jen, Cassie decides to find out who the real murderer is, make sure the zombies aren't blamed, and ensure the Carnival still goes ahead.

Will Cassie keep the Carnival on track, stop Nick picking on the zombies, and find out who the real killer is?

I didn't expect to like this cozy mystery with a twist as much as I did! Since the "uprising" there are two kinds of zombies on earth the rabid, dangerous ones and the placid, peaceful ones. The placid ones are living in Zee Town next to the regular towns folk who look after the a bit slow and helpless zombies - some of them used to live in Zee town before they became zombies. The life in this special city seems to take a little bit away from this first mystery in the series but I think this will be different in the next books in this series. I would definitely read more of Zee town.

I've never seen the TV series I-Zombie, but I think this is in the same direction. Only the Zombies in this story are not very inteligent, but they are peaceful.

Cassie, is the local public relation officer, and she is responsible for the anual carnival in Zee Town. And here beginns the creepie part. Human Zobies and human living people live in the same town. A peacefull together. Strange thought for somebody who has seen only deadly Zombies in films like "28 days later." or TV series like "The Walking dead".

In this peace crashes the not natural dead of Bert, a local shop owner. He is murdered and Nick, the local Police officer, and Cassie are starting there own investigations. I wont tell any Spoilers because the Story is to funny to destroy it with to much Information about it.

What I can tell and what you will find in the Story is a Golf ball, a three legged dog, some minor injuries, a hair dresser with a strange Job, a new cop named Alex, a council building with a new utilization and a lot more.

Above all it is a crime story. Somebody is murdered and there is a investigation. But it is very well written. Clear words, good believabel characters. I loved to read it. Maybe I will find time to read the next book in the series short after.

I downloaded this cosy read late one night when my standard novels were getting a bit heavy, and to be honest I really thought it would be one of those novels I assigned to my DNF pile.
BOY WAS I WRONG!!!!
This was an epically funny read that had everything and I'll be quite honest and say that I checked the author out, added myself to her reader list, downloaded more of her Zee Town novels and also a freebie from one of her other series, I enjoyed her work that much.
Great quality writing with an interesting premise vastly different to standard zombie stories. It was a PERFECT blend of an intelligent cosy mystery with a zombie theme, humorous descriptions of zombies, fascinating characters with a little bit of romantic angst thrown in. I will say I felt for the characters needs to go vegetarian and some of the meal descriptions were scrumptious!
Four well-earned stars of enjoyment and entertainment!

Light, breezy, fun! Cassie is in charge of managing a carnival celebration in Zee Town. Years after a zombie uprising of some sort (it's never really explained, just hinted at) Zee Town became a haven for "placid" zombies. They are allowed to roam freely through town, and the townspeople take care of them.

Tourists come from all over to see the tame zombies, and enjoy the carnival. Before the carnival starts, a man is killed, and it looks like a zombie did it.

Naturally, Cassie gets involved. She doesn't trust the police chief, Nick, because he thinks a zombie might have done it. Cassie firmly believes that no placid zombie could commit murder.

The investigation part was well done. No giant loopholes, or forgotten clues. The zombies were interesting. Secondary characters were also well done. My main annoyance was how stubborn Cassie was about Nick. Her lack of trust in his investigative abilities got to the point of being obnoxious. Her lack of self awareness was also irritating.

Overall, a very pleasant way to pass the time.

>Book review - Zombie Daze

>This book is the first in the Zee Town Paranormal Cozy Mystery series and ends with the mystery being solved. The different human and zombie characters in this town are introduced, along with the usual prejudices and angst. This period in time is after a virus causes some humans to become zombies. There are deadly, human killing zombies and placid ones. Zee Town is a placid zombie sanctuary town. I thought it was quite interesting how the author described the positives and negatives to lucid zombies and the changes in their lives now.

>The zombie uprising sounded terrifying. I would have liked to see some flashback moments showing the reader how horrible that event really was. There was a lot of prejudice against the placid zombies. Knowing the trauma the humans went through at the hand of zombies would have helped the reader to understand a bit better.

>The story had a lot of fun, quirky moments. Cassie is a busy human member of the community, filled with compassion towards everyone. An unanswered question is why the zombies treat Cassie like their queen. This book is a unique, non-gory mystery, but a hint of romance is coming. The police chief is way too crabby towards Cassie to not have a crush on her. This book is appropriate for a young adult (16+) to adult audience. I am giving the story 4 stars. This book is a quick, fun read into a brand new world. I am a reviewer for Romance Author's that Rock.

Cassie March wears a lot of hats in Zee Town, a social experiment where humans and placid zombies have peacefully coexisted since a virus decimated humanity five years ago. The infection turned half of the world’s people into either rabid or placid zombies.

As the town Cultural Officer and tourism coordinator, she plans events aimed at showcasing how well zombies and humans can work together. Next week is a big event, which could be derailed if the murder of a local businessman was committed by a zombie.

Cassie butts heads with Nick Morton, lead investigator in the case. The body has evidence of zombie bites and Nick’s experiences during the zombie uprising have made him wary of the community’s undead residents. Cassie knows the placid zombies couldn’t have been responsible and decides to investigate on her own.

A light, whimsical paranormal mystery that leaves you wanting more.

This book was such a fun book to read. Nothing like your normal mystery or zombie books, but a great combination of both. I never would have thought of Placid Zombies before this book, but now I really want to read more books by this author. This was my first. This was truly a who-dun-it mystery right to almost the very end of the book. You have your love-hate relationships going on, you have the zombies and their excentricities when it comes to Cassie as well. That was probably the most fun to read about. Especially when she neds something and how they just appear. That just made me shudder a little bit with how creepy it was, but how cool at the same time. See who is killed, who does it, and why. Read and enjoy!

I’m not really a fan of zombie fiction, so I started this book with a bit of hesitation. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I really enjoyed it.
The book is essentially a cozy mystery that just happens to have zombies in it. If you like cozies, give this one a shot. I liked it enough that I am looking forward to the rest of the series.
I did deduct one star because I found the heroine to be a little annoying with the way she was treating the man who is obviously meant to be her romantic counterpart in future books.
I was given a free copy of this book by Voracious Readers Only in exchange for an honest review.

I'm not a person who likes to read about gore, zombies and all what that normally entails. But Kate said she wrote about NICE zombies so I gave this book a chance.
And what a pleasure that was to read!

In Zee Town humans and placid zombies live harmonic side by side till one of the inhabitants is killed and the local sheriff believe that a zombie is the culprit.

This assumption puts the hackles of Cassie, the local tourist information boss and avid zombie friend (all the zombies in Zee Town love Cassie right back) up.

So she starts her own investigation with lots of fireworks between the handsome sheriff and Cassie.

The end is (as always in Kate's books) a big surprise!

It took most of the book for me to actually start warming up to these characters. Admittedly, this is a unique take on the zombie genre. Towards the final parts of the story, I began to really care about what was happening to the MC. The repressed emotions that are necessary to create romantic tension were a tad tedious, but an author's got to do what an author's got to do, I suppose. I'm anxious to see whether book 2 makes me like them all more or not.

Dazed and amused.

"Zee Town was odd, but it was my kind of odd. And I loved it." A sentiment that describes this story really well.
It's a sweet story and quite funny too, an easy read.

It is time for the yearly Zombie Carnival held in
See town. This is where you will be introduced to
the various humans and zombie types. After a
virus hit the humans, some were turned into zombies.
They are two zombie types....the rabid killing zombies
and the placid, calm zombies.
Cassie March is a human and theZee Town's tourism
manager who runs the Carnival. Everything is running
smooth until a human is murdered with zombie bite
marks on the body. The town law officer believes a
zombie is the murderer but Cassie believes this to be
untrue. So off she goes to find a murderer.
Interesting, well created characters in a well written,
well plotted story.

Fun paranormal cozy mystery. I received a free copy from the author via insta freebie in return for a review.

I liked how there were two types of zombies, the placid ones who just shamble about their business and the rabid ones who are the crazy flesh-eating types from horror films and the idea of a 'Sanctuary' town for the placid zombies were they cab be cared for. Cassie's passionate defence of the zombie's and their rights was good and I enjoyed her 'zombie whisperer' status and how the zombies would just turn up to help her and protect her when she needed it. I am keen to find out why the zombie's are so drawn to her tho so I hope that is addressed in future books. I did find the bickering between Cassie & Nick little over done - a little bit is good and adds tension to the relationship, this was too much tho and Cassie especially was kind of over the top with her reactions and arguing. Also I thought the whole getting thrown out of book-club thing was ridiculous. I mean this her her book club with 3 of her friends, they meet regularly. Nick turns up for the first time- they have one of their usual arguments and hostess Selina flips the fuck out and orders them both to leave. Seriously? You can't just say this is a book club, no more arguing about non-related topics or I will ask you to leave?
Looking forward to the next one.

I am hooked! I love the premise of the book. Everyone has been infected with the virus, but they all react differently (not at all, placid, and rabid). This series is dedicated to a group of people that learn to deal with the horrible situation in a way that brings together those not affected and the placid zombies. I love reading how they learn to coexist and work together in a caring community while sharing interests and accommodating needs.

Zombie love!

I loved the idea for this story and can't wait to find out more! I wish I could find out how to access the back story of Nick and Stool. Looking forward to the next installment. Need to know what the real story is about the "zombie queen". Intriguing! !

Imagine living in a town with Zombies. That's what Zee Town is all about. When one of the residents is murdered, it almost puts a damper on the yearly Zombie Carnival. Will Cassie find the culprit in time to save the Carnival and her zombie friends? This was an interesting way to present a murder mystery. I was pleasantly surprised at the story. Plus it was well written with interesting characters. I will be reading more from Ms. O'Conner.
