Heat and Thermodynamics

Rate this book
Written for general physics courses that emphasize temperature-dependent phenomena, this text deals with large-scale thermal phenomena and then proceeds to small-scale less accessible phenomena. Examples of calculations are presented after important formulas are derived, and actual thermodynamic experiments are explained in detail.

About the author

Mark Waldo Zemansky was an American physicist. He was a professor of physics at the City College of New York for decades and is best known for co-authoring University Physics, an introductory physics textbook, with Francis Weston Sears. The book, first published in 1949, is often referred to as "Sears and Zemansky", although Hugh D. Young became a coauthor in 1973.

I found this book to be only 'ok' for my Thermodynamics course (though i suspect a text in differential equations would have been better than this for thermodynamics), but found it extremely useful for my statistical mechanics and solid state physics courses.

I hate this book and if it weren't for the fact the questions helped me prepare for my exams, I would've rated it 1 star.

If this wasn't one of the only 3 books written covering intermediate thermodynamics, it wouldn't be used in any sensible thermo course. The language feels like its trying to be as confusing as possible. I have never in my life, read a textbook that decreased my understanding of a subject until this book.

Go read Daniel Schroeder's book on the same topic instead. It even has a funny image of a wizard :)

The book can be written in more easy language. And I don't know why the author skipped so many equations and just write the results. If you write only result then why do I need your book? The book is just "Ok".

Si eres físico, no hay ningún otro libro introductorio para termodinámica que sirva. Si tienes otro, tíralo a la basura, compra Zemansky y arrepiéntete de tus pecados.
