The book Spider’s first day at school is a great book! This book is about how no one wants to be friends with a spider on his first day at school. But there is a kind ladybug who becomes his friend and in the end, it all works out and he made friends! This book is a colorful and cartoonish book! This is a great book for kids starting school who might be scared or nervous about not making friends, this book helps them know that no matter what they will always make friends! Spider’s first day at school is for kids around the age of 4-6. This book can really help kids love reading since it's simple but entertaining.
Another cute back to school book that I read with my 2nd graders. Spider does not exactly fit in on his first day of school. The other insects make fun of him, but then he meets some friends and uses his unique skills at recess and the story has a happy ending. Highly recommend.
Topics and Themes: Spider is nervous about his first day of school and the book tells how he becomes more comfortable there. He makes friends, plays sports, and finds he has a nice teacher.
Curricular Use: This book shows students interacting in a classroom. It shows Spider make friends so it could be good to use at the beginning of the school year. It also allows kids to see that it is ok to feel nervous about starting school. I feel it would be best in younger grades possibly K-2.
Social: This book shows a variety of bugs all going to school together. It is a nice way to mimic the variety of students we will have in our classrooms without directly showing children. It would be great to show children how all kinds of bugs get along just as we want them to. It is nice to have friends with differences as is shown in the book.
Literary Element: This book uses personification to depict the bug characters of the book as normal human kids. Useing personification allows readers to relate to the characters easier.
Text and Pictures: The text is written out of the illustrations to make reading easier for our early readers. The illustrations are also kid friendly because they are colorful and simple.
I used to love reading Spider's First Day at School when I was a child. Honestly, I still had a great time reading it today. There's a little note written in my mother's handwriting saying I got this book on October 13, 1987, a couple of days after my seventh birthday. The premise of the story is Spider heading to his first day at school. Whether it's his first day ever or the beginning of a new year is left to the imagination. He meets new friends, Fly and Ladybug, and plays his first football game against bedbugs. Overall, Spider had a good day and ends up being a hero, and I find myself feeling nostalgic and enjoying the read. Do I recommend the book? Yes. It's just a good, simple story.

This would be a great book to read on the first day of school. It is about a spider who is nervous about the first day, wondering who his teacher would be, who his classmates would be. Spider ends up having a great day at school.
Spider has anxiety and struggles that many students can relate to in school. An excellent resource to share to teach on how to deal with struggles, new experinces, and anxiety.
