Patterns of Chaos #1

Radius of Doubt

Rate this book
Gifted with the power to navigate the Patterns of Chaos, Palaton is an elite member of the Choyan race--a tezar--and one of the select few who can pilot a starship at faster than light speeds (FTL). Those eager to break the tezars' monopoly on FTL transports plan to take advantage of the fact that Cho is on the verge of civil war. But Palaton's problem at hand is far more personal--his own tezar powers might be burning out. Reissue.

Radius of Doubt by Charles Ingrid is the first book in "The Patterns of Chaos" series. This book is written almost entirely from an advanced alien's point of view with several humans as secondary characters for the most part.
This story revolves around an alien race that inhabits a planet called Cho. The Choyans are the only beings who can pilot a spaceship faster than the speed of light, thus they have a monopoly over faster-than-light travel. Any ship that must travel interstellar distances requires a Choyan pilot and his/her little black box.
This story is about a Choyan named Palaton who is facing the burnout of his abilities, as all Choyans do eventually. He will discover that there is a secret way to keep his abilities involving the humans who are considered to be second-class citizens of the Compact. They may be able to help him but it could possibly lead to an end for him and his clan.

Kind of interesting story, but I'm not really invested in it enough to continue the series.
