Rate this book
In this invaluable book for these latter days, Brad Wilcox (former mission president in Santiago, Chile) and his son, Russell (recently returned from his mission in Malaga, Spain), share their combined insights and experiences on themes selected from Preach My Gospel. Brad shares what he and his wife tried to do to prepare Russell before his mission, and Russell shares what did or didn't work for him. Finally, the authors have prepared keys for action specific suggestions that can be completed for, with, and by young people as they prepare.

This is a "time-in-your-life" kind of book. As I have contemplated preparing my kids for missions, I have been trying to find good sources of information to help us along the way. My philosophy is never too soon. They have some great practical advice like having the missionaries over at your house frequently, so the kids can interact with them. This CD has great information on dealing with those difficult questions investigators always ask and suggestions like getting your kids involved in service oriented jobs, so they can develop their people skills. Excellent information even just for developing a well-rounded kid!

3 1/2 stars.
Like most of Brad Wilcox’s books, this one is full of good insights, interesting analogies, and engaging stories. My main complaint with the book is that it is unfocused. It’s purportedly aimed at both prospective missionaries and parents, but I think it would have been better focused at just one of those two audiences. It felt a bit haphazard in its organization.

Good book. Kind of a remake in a way from the origional book called rasing the bar but still a good read. It was good for my sons the read and learn from and a bit more to their taste than the origional.

This was incredible! One of the best mission prep books I've read! There are incredible quotes and lessons that I have taken notes on and will remember. Helps put my future mission into a realistic and spiritual perspective.

I listened to this CD and absolutley loved it. I found it related to a lot more than missionaries and mission preparation. Probably the best things I've heard about sexual sin and how to fight it. I will be listening to it one more time!

I thought this book was very well done. It was practical and humorous without being overbearing and gave lots of good advice about preparing for a mission.
