I find James Patterson has a real talent for creating such engaging and interesting stories in very few pages, and all three of them hit the mark in this book. I especially appreciate the use of the first vs third person with the protagonists in the second story, as well as the twist in the third that really caught me off guard.

My only complaints are a somewhat unsatisfying ending of the first story, the ending of the third which was a bit silly, and in the back of my mind I’m always thinking of how these stories could have been expanded upon if given their own proper books. Still a very good read.

The third book in the House Next Door collection by James Patterson, We Are Not Alone, is thrilling and fast-paced, typical James Patterson. When Robert James Barnett intercepts a message from space on his home computer system, he becomes a target by government agents, his only crime seemingly knowing more than he ought. He must fight the agents on his trail and against time to decipher the message.

While this is happening, a team of space explorers is on a covert space mission to destroy a planet threatening the earth. However, only the commander knows, and when she tells her team just a few moments to impact, some of her team members explode feeling betrayed, but others stay with her. However, after Robert deciphers the mission on earth, the story becomes confusing. It says that the space mission intended to destroy the earth (how) by going to the blue planet to fire at earth. I have not yet wrapped my mind around it ...

It is a nice story, but I can't give a conclusive review because of the last bit.

The House Next Door was my first time listening to James Patterson — and honestly, it wasn’t bad. His writing style gave me a little bit of Stephen King vibes but with way less filler and a lot fewer words. Honestly, I kind of appreciated that because sometimes King can drag things out forever. 😂

This book is actually three different stories, and I enjoyed all of them, but not gonna lie — I felt a little lost at first with each one. Patterson drops hints but doesn’t immediately explain anything, so you need a little patience before things start to make sense. Once they clicked, I was more into it, but some reveals still felt a little light.

Also, the whole book gave me serious Twilight Zone vibes — strange setups, eerie twists, and that feeling that something was always just a little off. I was here for it.

Final thoughts: Fast-paced, easy to get through once you settle into the weirdness, and fun if you’re in the mood for quick, eerie stories without a ton of heavy lifting. Just don’t expect anything super deep — it’s more about the experience.

James Patterson combines 3 stories into one book. First book The House Next Door (Susan Dilallo Author) in my opinion was obnoxious stopped reading it. Woman in story was so unbelievable dumb not recognizing a man next door who is so manipulative. Had to stop reading it was so crazy. Book two The Killers Wife (Max Dilallo author) This one was ok. Older cop trying to solve disappearances' of 4 young girls. He and his partner figure out who it is and follow the guy after he picks up his next victim. Saving her the teens life, they arrest the guy. He won't talk to anyone including his wife. Cops interview the wife several times. Older cop is fascinated with her but knows there is something off with her attitude. I'll leave it at that the end is a bit surprising but understand the actions. The third book We Are Not Alone (author: Tim Arnold) This one is most interesting regarding scientists who know there is life beyond earth. It's a come to Jesus's moment for all involved to save the planet.
