Bloodroot showcases poetry from the collected works of Jasper, Indiana, native Norbert Krapf. Spanning 35 years, these poems focus on Krapf's experiences living in southern Indiana and the intersection of his life with his German ancestry. Forty of the poems are published here for the first time.

Photographs by David Pierini, inspired by Krapf's work with many taken in and around Dubois County, grace this evocative portrait of a poet and place.

Ever since returning to my native Hoosierland about a year-and-a-half ago, I've been drawn to embrace all things Hoosier. I came across Norbert Krapf by a chance hearing of an interview on the radio. He grew up as a German Catholic in southern Indiana, spent most of his professional life teaching on Long Island, and has since returned to Indiana for the remainder of his life and career (2008 Indiana Poet Laureate). His poetry is spiritual meditation in profoundly simple forms, often inspired by what is nearest to us.

This is a wonderful book of Indiana poems, best read sequentially. I'll be sharing MANY of these poems as we continue to celebrate National Poetry Month. This would be a wonderful gift for those with personal roots in Indiana.

Some of these poems are absolutely marvelous. This is the book of Indiana poems I've been looking for since I got here. Looking forward to putting these in front of Taylor students in the spring.
