First sentence: Today Maisy is driving her bus to the beach.

Premise/plot: Where will Maisy and her friends end up?

My thoughts: Books starring Maisy abound both in board book and picture book format. In this one, a Maisy shape book, Maisy is driving her bus and picking up all her friends for an adventure. My first thought, as an adult reader, is WHY does Maisy own a bus? Is Maisy old enough to drive a bus? Why is Maisy just learning to swim and having her first sleepover yet still somehow able to drive a bus?! Wouldn't it make more sense if Maisy was a passenger on a bus like all of her friends?! But I admit I might be thinking a little too much about it.

Maisy is a mouse. She has a pet cat. Per the back of this book, she also has another book where she goes to kindergarten. In this book, she is driving a bus. None of this is considered odd in this world because she manages to fit a duck, a squirrel, a donkey, a crocodile, and an elephant into what appears to be an 80s era VW Vanagan without it becoming a blood bath. The elephant, it should be noted, is only slightly larger than Maisy herself, though they do a bit of fat shaming when he and the crocodile (who are apparently inseparable) get on the bus: Then it's Charlie AND Eddie! They both squeeze in! Again, the art style is made to look like a particularly talented six year old drew it.

Yeah! This is colorful and fun! Can all the friends fit? First of all, I love the concept that, "yes! you can and should take the bus to the beach. It's the green and community-building thing to do! Second, I like the variation from light-suburb to dense city center, back to suburb, to rural area to beach. I didn't notice this until a subsequent reading though. Maybe the background perspective could have been a little smaller versus scaled with the bus. Finally, you might learn something new, like green means go. Another cool adventure with Maisy. Book is slightly bus-shaped (curved upper right corner), and that's neat, too.

My baby boys love Lucy Cousins, and they love Maisy. They usually stop what they're doing as soon as I hold up this board book, and they sit with me and look at every colorful thing on every page as we read together. Sometimes they talk to it or slap at it to help me turn pages, and often they pick it up as the toy of choice to hold and examine. Thank you, Lucy Cousins, for helping me have these fun and wonderful memories with my kids!

L chose this book for her baby sister at the library. It's the second Maisy book she has picked out for her recently. So, clearly the cover and illustrations are appealing to a 3-year-old, but they seem to be appealing to the 4-month-old as well. The text is nothing very special, just a bunch of animals heading to the beach on a bus. But it's cute enough.

My 3.5-year-old and I love the Maisy books. Each one is brief, simple and cheerful. There are no obstacles or problems, just everyday fun activities. In this one Maisy picks up her friends on the way to the beach, where they have a lovely time.

Very cute board book for toddlers in which different animals get on the bus at each stop. Each one carries something different they need for a picnic at the beach. Along the way they sing "The Wheels on the Bus . . . ". At the end they all end up at the beach.

I liked the donkey named Daisy in the dotted dress and the elephant in swimming trunks. I didn't like the plot.

Tot, now really into types of vehicles, enjoyed this read. She picked it out herself at our local library. The art style isn't to my taste.
