Faded Jeans to Army Greens: A Story of Army Life from Basic to Desert Storm

Rate this book
A twist of fate and a few hours are all the separated two soldiers: one soldier's story ended in tragedy and the other soldier's story continues on today trying his best to honor the other. This sounds like a movie, but it is the true story of my life and how it changed one fateful day in 1991. "Faded Jeans to Army Greens" tells the true story of Mike Travis and his journey from Basic Training to Operation Desert Storm. Filed with pictures, letters home, and diary entries, this book will show you the happy, sad, and sometimes hilarious world of military life. (This book does contain some language and situations that might not be suitable for young children.)

I loved the book - it was funny like the time he fell asleep while marching and ended up on his back like a turtle; it was inspiring to learn all the difficult challenges that soldiers must face constantly; and it was heart wrenching to experience the war in Iraq and the loss of a friend through his eyes. The words are often raw but honest, and that is what gives it reality and substance. Barb T.
