Eileen Dewhurst was born in Liverpool, read English at Oxford, and has earned her living in a variety of ways, including journalism. When she is not writing she enjoys solving cryptic crossword puzzles and drawing and painting cats.
For the first 70 pages or so I was desperately waiting for something interesting to happen, in fact it was so tedious I almost threw in the towel. I suppose the perseverance paid off as, finally, there was some action! Following the discovery of a body, the book transformed into a sort of who-dunnit type mystery. There were a few twists and turns, which kept me on the edge of my seat..well, not quite, but the novel remained interesting enough to continue reading it. Being a member of the Companion Book Club, I was sent this edition in the early 1980s. That's the problem with some book clubs, you don't get a choice of the reading material you're sent. Still, it got read eventually... nearly 40 yrs later!
