Enid Mary Blyton (1897–1968) was an English author of children's books.
Born in South London, Blyton was the eldest of three children, and showed an early interest in music and reading. She was educated at St. Christopher's School, Beckenham, and - having decided not to pursue her music - at Ipswich High School, where she trained as a kindergarten teacher. She taught for five years before her 1924 marriage to editor Hugh Pollock, with whom she had two daughters. This marriage ended in divorce, and Blyton remarried in 1943, to surgeon Kenneth Fraser Darrell Waters. She died in 1968, one year after her second husband.
Blyton was a prolific author of children's books, who penned an estimated 800 books over about 40 years. Her stories were often either children's adventure and mystery stories, or fantasies involving magic. Notable series include: The Famous Five, The Secret Seven, The Five Find-Outers, Noddy, The Wishing Chair, Mallory Towers, and St. Clare's.
According to the Index Translationum, Blyton was the fifth most popular author in the world in 2007, coming after Lenin but ahead of Shakespeare.
The Faraway Tree books were the only books I used to read as a six year old. Always been such a big fan of Enid Blyton. It was so refreshing to revisit all these joyful characters and the coloured illustrations took the reading experience to a whole another level!
Miss 3 loves these Faraway Tree books. It's a good balance of story and colour illustrations. This one isn't really about Santa (though he does pop in at the end) and more about their misadventures in the Land of Toys and how they travel to Santa to ask for help getting home.
Miss 3 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
I loved reading Enid Blyton as a child and spotted this in my local library and thought it would be perfect to get my son into Enid Blyton books too and it was a great success. Malaki loved all the characters and is looking forward to the next book
We're so pleased you enjoyed "In Santa Claus's Castle" by Enid Blyton. This magical story brings to life the spirit of giving and the joy that comes from making others happy. It shows us how the act of giving can be even more rewarding than receiving.
A new idea you learned is the importance of generosity and thinking of others. Just like the characters experienced the happiness of giving in Santa Claus's Castle, you can use this lesson by finding ways to share and give to those around you, not just during the holiday season but all year round. Whether it's sharing a toy, helping a friend, or giving a smile, small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
Remember, Qamar, the happiness we spread to others comes back to us, making the world a brighter place for everyone.
Easy Faraway Tree story of 7 chapters. Would help if the reader knew the series but could standalone. Appearance by Santa Claus but not really a Christmas tale. Part of a collection of Faraway Tree stories.
