This seemed more like a travel book. Being a National Geographic book, I had planned on many beautiful photographs of these "secret place". Plenty of flowery writing, but not many pictures. At the end of every place described, the author mentioned how to get to it, but it also mentioned when to avoid going, often times because of high tourist season. Funny thing to say about the world's secret places.
The best part about this book is it got me thinking about adding some adventure to my life. I basically never go anywhere. Even though every summer I drive from North Dakota to New England to visit my family, I never stop anywhere new or try anything different. This book has inspired me to consider finding my own "secret places", the one's I might be flying by on the Interstate, ignorant of what could even be within a few miles of my path.
