When Heather Shepherd hears that Detective Davidson’s daughter, Tara, has just been found dead, she’s horrified. Her horror soon turns to shock, when Davidson turns up at Donut Delights and makes it clear that Heather is his prime suspect. Heather is set on finding the truth, armed with her new knowledge thanks to her forensics course, and her bestie and doggy Dave for company, she sets out to solve the mystery. But internal issues at the police station see Ryan kicked off the case, leaving Heather bare to the attentions of a non-too-please Davidson. She had to balance an influx of orders for Cinnamon Crunch donuts, and the mystery or she might end up losing it all.
Heather has to find her focus or she might be blinded by the facts in this case. Sleuthing has just become as complicated as her recipe for cinnamon crumbles.
Heather Shepherd finds herself in hot water once again when the daughter of a local detective is murdered. She was the last person to talk to Tara, and her father believes Heather had something to do with the killing. Her husband Ryan, a local PD detective, is removed from the case, so he supports Heather doing a bit of snooping into the case to try and clear her name. But someone clearly doesn't like her sticking her nose into the investigation.....can Heather find out who murdered Tara Davidson without ending up a victim herself?
This book is a light cozy mystery. I like the characters and the doughnut shop theme. This book had fewer editing errors than prior books in this series -- nice change! I hope it continues! The front cover has a photo of a very yummy cinnamon doughnut on it! mmmmmm.
These stories are novella length -- perfect for a short trip, waiting for an appointment or other times when an avid reader wants something light and quick to read. The stories are entertaining and fast-paced.
There are 60 books in this series, plus a spin-off series with the same characters in a new location, Oceanside Cozy Mysteries. Cinnamon Nut Crunch Murder is the 14th book in the series (so I have a lot of reading to do!!!)
I love reading these doughnut books. 1. Because, doughnuts, which I get to experience vicariously. 2. Because it's Me against the Book (Capitalisation is Important): Who is going to figure out who the murderer is, first? In this one, I won. Hands down. The second I encountered said murderer, I knew he was the murderer. I'm not sure if this is a spoiler. A few other things that I like about this series in general (because, let's face it, I will read more of these. and it's the third time I have used the word 'because' in this review. Does this one count? Fourth then. I love how I am rambling in this review. I might just keep writing. This is making me happier than it should!) -
1. It takes me a couple of hours (or maybe, three) to finish one of these books. And there is a pattern to them. 2. The titles. This one is called 'Cinnamon Nut Crunch Murder'. The title! 3. I know that Dave will be mentioned way too much. I have a love-hate relationship with Dave. Sometimes, his grunting annoys me. (Credit where credit is due, he (it?) was pivotal in solving this murder at hand). 4. I just love how Heather is suspected of murder so very often. I mean, what does that say about her? Isn't Ryan a little puzzled? Perplexed, at least? Why isn't he running away, screaming? Maybe it's the doughnuts. 5. The diversity in the doughnut shop. Yes, I went there. (I also realise I am constantly writing 'doughnut' instead of 'donut', and that's okay, because this makes me happy too. Fifth time, if anyone is keeping track). 6. The writing. Sometimes, midway through a paragraph, you can feel the author apologising for the writing and the choice of words. At other times, it's more than just a feeling - it's right there! Things like "pardon the pun" find their way into the book. It's hilarious, and somehow, makes it more apparent that there is more than one author to this series, and 'Susan Gillard' is just a collective pen-name (I'm going to be eating my words if this is not true!) 7. They (the author or authors) do not know what to do with Kent. Are we supposed to like him, not like him? Give us a clue here! He has absolutely no personality, aside from the fact that he is a lawyer (yes, I am counting this as a personality trait. Sue me).
And it took me longer to write this review than it did to read the book.
The orders are increasing in the Donut Delights shop and on the internet. Heather Shepherd owns the shop and is also studying to become a private investigator. Her husband, Ryan is a police officer. Detective Davidson’s daughter, Tara who was the new assistant at the Flighty Florists is found dead. She was stabbed behind the florist shop. As Heather was one of the last several in the flower shop, Detective Davidson descends on Heather as his main suspect. Detective Davidson made sure to have Ryan removed from anything to do the murder investigation. So Heather and her best friend set out to prove Heather’s innocence. Of course, Dave the dog tags along with them. Ryan makes sure they do not overstep their bounds which would interfere with the investigation.. Good adventure with interesting characters make for an intriguing read. Although this is book # 14 in the Donut Hole Cozy Mysteries, it can be read as a stand alone. This a quick, mouth-watering mystery. Thank you to the author for this eBook. My opinion is my own.
Our favorite detective is back... Detective Davidson. I really dislike that guy, but hopefully this is the last time I have to read about him, I some how doubt it though. This book wasn't terribly believable. the likelihood that an entire police department would stand back and watch a father investigate his own daughter's death is unlikely.
Heather's procedure is getting better, probably thanks to her classes. It's hard to have a timeline on stories, so the courses seem to just fly by. Mind you, having a husband who's a cop is also a leg up.
The character development was non existent in this book. I feel like Gillard focused primarily on the blood lust that Davidson has for Heather. This, in my opinion, was a very weird aspect to the character arch. Overall it was a fine book.
I am in love with this series. All persons are nice and we get to know them better and better in each book. Also the different stories are fun to read. Yes I can truelly say I'm a big fan of The Donut Hole Mysteries and writer Susan Gillard.
Detective Davidson daughter Tara is dead, and he says the suspect is Heather. Her and Amy just seen her at her flower shop, when she was taking a break. Ryan was taken off the case, so together they investigate. A blonde woman had been seen with her earlier, but now denying it.
I really enjoyed Susan Gillard's latest addition to the donut hole mysteries. Heather is a smart, capable amateur sleuth who is studying to be a private investigator. It shows her growth and gives her a natural reason to investigate the murders. She doesn't take unnecessary risks like some heroes and heroines in other cozies have been known to do. I like that about this series.
Her supporting characters are developing right along with Heather and her husband, Ryan. I can't wait to hear more from Jung, the only character that hasn't been directly involved in a case. Geoff Lawless as comic relief has added some chuckles. You never know when or where he'll show up. He reminds me of the wicked witch in Wizard of OZ. "I'm going to get you my pretty, and your little dog too!"
In this installment, Heather is being accused of killing Detective Davidson's daughter. She has to investigate to clear her name and Ryan can't officially help her. Davidson is ignoring other possibilities and his grief has him not seeing clearly.
Will Heather clear her name before she is railroaded into prison? Read the book to find out.

Cinnamon Nut Crunch Murder is the 14th book in Susan Gillard’s Donut Hole Cozy Mystery series. It’s a fast, clean read with a good mystery, and twists and turns.
Heather’s donut shop is doing great and she is continuing her private investigator courses. When Detective Davidson’s daughter, Tara, is murdered, Heather is high on his list of suspects. Heather met Tara, the new assistant at Flighty Florists, for the first time shortly before she was stabbed while taking her break. For some strange reason, Detective Davidson is allowed to investigate his daughter’s murder but Ryan has been banned from the case because Heather is a suspect. Heather and Amy put their sleuthing caps on and set out to find the guilty person.

Still trying to complete her schooling to become a detective, another murder interrupts Heather’s studies. Unfortunately this one puts her squarely in the sights of Detective Davidson, someone who has always seemed to have a “problem” with Heather. Since her husband, Ryan, is forbidden to investigate in any manner it is up to Heather and her friends, both human and animal, to solve the murderer before Detective Davidson charges her with the crime. Throw in the budding internet business that has taken off at a surprising pace, Heather finds she needs to redirect her focus to sort through the facts. This book did go through the editing process and was updated and the I gave it a 4 start rating only because I wanted Heather and Ryan to adopt the little girl. That is all I am going to comment on so others can read this book. I thought the mystery was great and I am so sick of Det. Davidson. He is coming off as a jerk and needs to be put in his place. Also this Geoff Lawless is really starting to get a bit creepy. I mean he just seems to pop up everywhere that Heather seems to be for no reason. I was getting so mad and when I get mad about a book or the character in the book, I really get into the book/series again.
Cinnamon Nut Crunch Murder is the 14th book in A Donut Hole Cozy Mystery series. Heather is still taking courses to become a detective. Tara Davidson is murdered, her father Detective Davidson is heading up the investigation and has it out for Heather. Why? What did she do that has him ready to charge her with this murder? Her husband Ryan can not investigate and Heather is not taking the rap for this, so with help from friends she is going to solve it. Hope Davidson gets what is coming to him for his mistakes. A great series with donuts that sound yummy.
Being the number one suspect in a murder leads Heather head first into another investigation. With Ryan relegated to the sidelines at work, Heather and her bestie, Amy, do what they do best. While munching on Heather's new donut creation, they traipse all over town to clear her name. I'm looking forward to Heather's next adventure because there are shakeups coming to the police department and that should make things interesting. I just wish I knew how Amy puts all of the donuts away. LOL! Another great addition to this tasty series!
If I ate as many donuts as Heather and Amy do I would have to be rolled around. Luckily for them they are always busy trying to find murderers and solve mysteries. Heathers husband, Detective Ryan Sheppard helps keep them out of trouble, most of the time, and solves crimes more quickly with their help. Once again I didn't see the villain coming in t ok the very end. A great addition to this series.

I have enjoyed all the books in this series but this was disappointing to me. Information needed to get the story going at the beginning was omitted. Why was Tara not herself? Confusing to me as it's mentioned in another chapter. There were many grammatical errors as well as words omitted from sentences. Don't judge the series by this book, although it was basically a good story.
I love this series. Makes you hungry too. When a body turns up from a girl that Heather and Amy just met the detective is hot on Heather's trail to pin it on her. With some help she finally clears herself and helps Ryan and the rest of the police force get back to some kind of normal.
his was a very weird case that Heather found herself in the middle of. Detective Davidson 's daughter was murdered and for some reason he has decided Heather did it. He seems to be slowly going off the rails. Heather's hubby Ryan has been completely shut out of things at work and encourages Heather to investigate. They have to find the answers before Detective Davidson throw them in jail.
A young woman Heather just met, Tara Davidson, is murdered right after leaving the woman's shop. The woman's father, a detective in the police department, tries to pin the murder on Heather. An alright story.
