I loved me some Adore You! I did not, however, like Devorah. She tapped danced on every single one of my nerves. I don’t know how you can be in love with someone for more than half of your life then, when the Love Gods smile down on you and hand this man to you on a silver platter, you f*ck it up royally. Whew chile! The self-sabotage was real. Devorah is hesitant to commit to Ellis because of his past whoreish ways. She’s had a front row seat to how he’s treated women and she doesn’t want to become another of the Black George Clooney's statistic. Devorah and Ellis have been secretly sneaking around then, officially dating for six months but, she doesn’t want their families to know because, Ellis is her ex’s brother. Now, mind you, Devorah and Everette dated ten years ago and never even had sex. But, that doesn’t stop Devorah's paranoia from running rampant and thinking she’s going to be judged for dating both brothers. So, she forces this man to secretly date her. Poor Ellis. He had the patience of Job because, he put up with all of Devorah’s ridiculous and silly rules. But, that’s because he’s been secretly in love with her too so he was more than willing to put up with her shenanigans. Devorah made their relationship unnecessarily complicated and difficult. When she went off on Ellis in Vegas, I wanted to fight her. She jumped to conclusions, didn’t give the man a chance to explain, and left him in Vegas. Her anger was irrational, unfounded, and childish. Devorah showed just how immature she was and, honestly, Ellis should’ve walked away then. When she realizes just how bad she screwed up, she’s too prideful and embarrassed to apologize so, she just let more time pass during their break-up. Y’all see why I don’t like this chic?!!! When Devorah finally gets over herself and apologizes, she does it with a huge grand gesture that gained her some cool points with me. I thought that scene was extremely cute. While I didn’t like Devorah, I loved her and Ellis as a couple. They had great chemistry and were perfect for each other. Ellis was an alpha male with a gentle soul. He had a calming effect on Devorah’s neurosis and that’s exactly what she needed. Oh, and I absolutely loved how the author referenced the Drake Hotel and the Drake siblings. I grinned like a fool when I read that. Adore you was the perfect friends to lovers read. It was full of romance, sex, and hilarious moments. I can’t wait to jump into book two.

I really enjoyed my reading experience with this! It’s got some great dialogue and all the jokes and references land well. I really loved the fact that we got to experience a love story that’s not in its beginning stages, we enter the story six months into Devorah and Ellis’ relationship, which I think is incredibly cool and added a nice touch of realism. Their relationship is a little complicated but very sweet. Cheesy even but enjoyable nonetheless.

My only real issue with this was the climactic conflict. It was for lack of a better term dumb. Which was exacerbated by the fact that not only was the concerns of the heroine unfounded but her leaps of logic truly bordered on irrational. This isn’t always an issue for me in romance because that’s kinda the nature of the genre most of the time. However, in this case it just didn’t sit right for me so I was dissatisfied with the climax. The resolution saved it for me because it was so cute and funny.

Cute and quick romance. Though I wanted to fight her a time or two throughout the book, Devorah's smart mouth reminded me of my circle of friends. Very funny. She'd fit right in.

First novel, no problem

Nicole killed this debut novel. The characters are so rich and you feel like you know each of them personally. Dev worked my nerves but Ellis was made for her. Only love sticks around for that. LOL

This was a sweet, fun, quick read. A well-executed romance debut with dialogue that went a long way to establish the relationships between characters.

I just want to start off by saying that, if you have characters by the name of Everett and Cassidy...how you gonna give them the ship name Everidy? Seriously...how you gonna name them Everidy when you can call them CASSETT?!

Anyway, the book sounded pretty fun, so I'm disappointed I didn't end up liking it as much as I was hoping I would. We're thrown in the middle of the story, which can be not bad, but I feel that it was the case here. I had no clue what they liked about one another other than having sexual chemistry. Yes, that's a good thing, but that's not something you can realistically build a life around, imo. I felt like I'd be clued in at some point, but we're dropped into the story and things just propel forward from there.

The writing was the biggest drawback for me. For starters, it had a very NA feel to it, which I've never found myself feeling. The book is in first person and contains lines of dialogue with only the occasional mention of who's speaking, which can get confusing when you have lengthy conversations. It's not that I want "s/he said" after every line of dialogue, but maybe greater differentiation between character's voices, even support characters, so it's easier to tell who's speaking. The two brothers, Ellis and Everett, also seem to have the same nickname ("ET"), so I got confused there because I thought the characters were talking about one when they meant the other. (And, yes, I realize their initials are the same, thus the same nicknames. Still didn't like it.) I'm also not a fan of drawn out letters ("Shiiiit," "Biiiiiiiitch," "Bruhhhhhhhh") in creative writing. Yes, it's a thing I tend to do, for anyone who has seen my comments and maybe some of my reviews, but I'm not here publishing a book.

As for the plot itself, I was a little apprehensive due to the brother connection. I'm never a fan of double-dipping when it comes to family, so Devorah having been with one brother and now the other wasn't an attractive feature of this book for me. However, although it's brought up, I didn't find it hindering my reading experience. And trying to play off Deborah and Everett's connection as not going all the way felt kind of like a cop-out to me. It may have been "just the tip" but it was still way past the line that I like, so I think the author should've just committed more solidly to her having been with Everett.

Devorah wasn't my favourite. She ran away from things and jumped to conclusions far too much for my liking. I wish the story had been longer so she could make a change here, but it wasn't. Once she does make a mistake, she decides to "commit" to it because she's embarrassed at having made said mistake. So this woman is prepared to write off the love of her life because she screwed up. (And only goes after him after being pushed by others.) And her grand gesture was...kinda cheesy. Devorah shows up to Ellis's door with cue cards all Love Actually-like because Ellis is into romance films. Cute, sure, but then she starts speaking in between every single cue card she drops, which totally defeats the purpose, imo. It was supposed to come off as a romantic comedic moment, but it felt clunky to me with how she kept interjecting comments. And then he sort of rejects her so he can one-up her in the grand gesture department, which was sort of an asshole move, tbh.

And on that note, I wasn't a big fan of Ellis's either. I didn't understand his characterization at times. He says he's been interested in her for a long time but never did anything about it because he wasn't ready?

I knew that when we were kids that Devorah had a little crush on me. I thought it was annoying when she used to follow me around. Then the summer after my first year of undergrad changed everything. Auntie Im needed some help around the house after her and Uncle James split, so my mom had Everett and I trade off going over to help mow the lawn, fix leaky sinks, shit like that. Whenever it was my turn, Bee always seemed to be underfoot, offering lemonade on scorching summer days when I was mowing the lawn or hot chocolate on wintry days while I shoveled and salted.

During that time, we’d talked a lot, gotten fairly close. Fast forward to a year later when I found out she and Everett were dating. Not gonna lie, that shit stung at first, but I knew she was always going to be mine and would be back eventually. I didn’t sweat it too hard because I wasn’t ready for her then, but I was more than ready now.

So, it basically sounds like he wanted to live his bachelor life and not be tied down yet. He's called the "Black George Clooney," so he was dating a ton, but it was only for the sex, right? If you already knew who you'd be ending up with, there's no major reason to be dating a ton of other people, right? Because he didn't want to give up his bachelorhood yet, but he knew she'd be waiting in the wings? (She also dates, so it wasn't a complete turn-off for me.) Ugh. I hate when characters do this. And what an asshole move, to know this person likes you, and know you'll be going for them eventually, but date other people in front of them for years.

He also says that "all of [his] Black Clooney antics were [his] way of passing the time until [they] were really ready to do this," but did he bother to ask her...? He didn't. So they weren't really biding the time so much as he was. Inside other women.

And what I mean by not understanding his characterization is this:

After we finished all of the crazy shit, I scheduled a couple’s massage for us since Bee was complaining about being tense due to some friction and recent unrest at work. I wasn’t too keen about some dude having his hands all over her, but sometimes you gotta be a little uncomfortable for the woman you love. Besides he only had sixty minutes and restricted areas, I had the rest of our lives with no restrictions.

If he's so possessive that he's not all too happy about another man's hands on his girlfriend during a massage, then why was he cool with years of her dating and sleeping with other men? I didn't want him to be a cock-blocking asshole, but if there's going to be indication of possessiveness and jealousy in there in regards to an innocent massage, then I expect something more than a dude who didn't go after a woman he cared for and was cool with her fucking others because he wasn't keen on giving up his bachelorhood.

With some of the other parts of this book, they seemed underdeveloped. I didn't understand why her relationship with her mother was as strenuous as it was. I don't mean just friction with parents, but she legit thinks that her mother will call her a "brotherfucker." If that's a fear you have in regards to a parent, then I'm going to need more development here. Also, partway through, it's dropped on the reader that Everett, who was so crazy in love with his wife Cassidy, cheated on her. With how vague things were in regards to this, I wondered if maybe it'd be a misunderstanding because of how loyal and in love Everett is said to be, but it ended up being the truth. I wanted more development here.

Lastly, Cadence. I really don't understand Cadence as a friend. She seemed more like Ellis's friend to me most of the time than Devorah's. She was always baiting out Devorah's thoughts (and, at one point, her location) to Ellis and helping Ellis with all sorts of things. Even at the end, when Ellis and Devorah were broken up, she refused to spill Ellis's thoughts/feelings to Dev, but she was fine doing that to Dev during the whole book. She convinces Dev to go through with a grand gesture, but then she hints to Ellis that Dev will be doing something. Then when Ellis rejects Dev, Cade is in on Ellis doing something for Devorah...but then doesn't tell her. Like girl, whose bff are you? She certainly wouldn't be mine for long, that's for damn sure. At the very beginning of the book, Devorah is having a hard time dealing with Ellis, so she decides to partake in a staycation and finds a hotel to stay at. She doesn't tell Ellis. Devorah speaks to her bff and Cadence finds out where she is. Cadence tells Ellis and Ellis shows up on this staycation that was meant to be Ellis-free. Some bff lol.

Overall, I think that, with more polish and greater development, this book could be really good. I enjoyed what I read of it, but I wish there'd just been more. I also enjoyed the more realistic dialogue between the characters for their age group, which is not something I see all too often.

This was an okay novella. It’s evident in the story line that this is Nicole Falls’ first novella she wrote, especially when comparing to her more recent novellas that I have read.

The basis of the story was cute, but Lord, Devorah was annoying af! The climax of the novella that created the drama for Devorah and Ellis was just a complete juvenile situation. I felt as though something more extreme and intense could have happened to better justify Devorah’s childish behavior. I mean yea, she eventually owned up to her wrongdoings, but personally for me, it was too late because she was already doing too much!

I try to be very understanding of characters and I know that I will not like them all, but Devorah was just ridiculous to me. I get it, she was scared of being hurt by Ellis because of his past ‘Black Clooney’ (player) ways, and she was mostly concerned with their parents passing judgement, but at some point enough is enough, and I was over her character. I don’t know how her friends had the patience to deal with her, because I would’ve went in on her from the beginning!

I must say though, the references and jokes were pretty humorous. Also, I must say that I do like the fact that Nicole Falls’ always has her black characters in some type of prestigious profession, with families from wealthy backgrounds! Nice to read rather than the typical struggling black role and struggling family.

I had the pleasure of reading an advance copy of Nicole Falls' first novel, Adore You. This book is jam packed with drama, romance and laugh-out-loud funny lines. Nicole has a natural voice that shines through her prose, taking you through the story like you're being led on a tour.

Ellis and Devorah (or Bee, as she is affectionately called by friends and family) have known each other for years (he's her ex-boyfriend's brother and a close family friend) and have even tried the relationship thing a time or two. Ellis' notorious playboy ways have always landed him square in the "Not Him" column. Not to mention, Bee doesn't want to be the girl that has dated both of the Everett boys.

But this time? It's different. No, seriously. They're older and wiser and El might just be ready for what Bee is looking for. Bee doesn't see it, but El is about to WOO the crap out of her.

What I love about this book is the conversational tone throughout that doesn't make you feel like you're reading a book, more "hearing this story of these two people that got together". A great first effort by a first time author, looking forward to hearing more from Nicole Falls!

So cute!

Seriously, tears of joy at the end of this one for me. I loved the whole journey with these two. And a journey it was. As the reader you get plopped right into the thick of it and it just gets better from there. And those grand gestures, SWOON. I absolutely loved this one and I’m so happy I found this author!

I love reading about black love which is weird how often I don't get a chance to, but packed in these 120 pages, I LOVED the relationship between Bee and Ellis who were soooo cute and beautiful together who finally got over themselves. Bee has been in love with Ellis for years, but when she dated his brother Everett, so promises herself not to cross that line with his brother, Ellis. I loved Bee who had such an amazing support system in her best friends and I loved their conversations were made me lol so much! I loved reading about them, but they also gave her the push she needed when she was in her feelings about what she needed to do to finally make the next steps with Ellis.

Ellis was a charming, reformed player and always have been in love with his brother's girlfriend. Ellis and Bee balance each other so much and Ellis is a such a soft hearted guy who not only loves Bee, but is a bit corny which really works for him and loves rom-coms and is such a fan of grand gestures. I loved the nod to some of classic rom coms. The family dynamic is heartwarming and loving of both Bee and Ellis' families.
AHHH, this was lovely and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

This is a super cute story that I enjoyed a lot. The characters were very relatable. However, there was one side story that was unresolved to me. I hope it is addressed in another book. Other than that, this is a definite winner.

I had to dive deep into my Kindle to check off an item for a reading challege: "Something From Deep in Your TBR." After searching, I pulled out Adore You. So, my crazy self obviously went through the catalog of Nicole Falls all backwards because I had read other books by her, but somehow managed to overlook this one!🤦🏾‍♀️LOL!

Anyway, I'm definitely a fan of Nicole Falls. I absolutely adore her writing and have fallen in love with her books. Adore You--not my favorite though. How many times did Devorah aka Bee needed to be told that Ellis was serious about her? And that excuse she cooked up for hiding the relationship from the rest of the family?! Doesn't fly.🙄 She was acting like a silly school girl. All that crap about Ellis getting payback for being a playboy was BS. Bee flat out accused him of "setting her up" and then insisted on blaming him for whatever foolish mistake his brother made in his marriage to her good friend! Lawd, help me! I wanted to smack her!

And speaking of Ellis's brother--what the hell?! Why have him do something so stupid and played out?! Especially after learning about how he and Cass met, the sparks, the whirlwind romance. That pissed me off. Anyway, back to Bee and Ellis. I was still pissed with Bee, so her little "grand gesture" really didn't do anything for me but made me want to smack her with one of her posterboards, and I'm one of the most "easy to forgive" people ever.😂😂 However, I loved Ellis's counter grand gesture, and thought it was adorable.

In this first instalment of the Accidentally In Love series called “Adore you” then debut author Nicole Falls tells Devorah’s and Ellis’ story. Devorah is reluctant to date Ellis despite being in love with him for the majority of her life because a) he is her ex’s brother and she fears their mothers disapproval and b) because Ellis has in the past been known to be non-committal. Will Ellis succeed to convince Devorah to take it to the next level or is Devorah’s insistence on keeping their relationship a secret from their family bound to cause some trouble?

I had a blast flying through these 166 pages. I loved the band of side characters introduced: Devorah’s and Ellis’ shared best friend Cadence, Ellis’ brother Everett and of course Celena the series’s second instalment’s main character. I loved Nicole Falls’ writing style. It shone especially bright because of its wittiness. Even though I didn’t care much for the couple’s conflict (though that might just be because of my abhorrence of the reformed-player-trope in general; this girl is a pessimist and doesn’t believe that people change; in my humble opinion: once a commitment-phob always a commitment-phob), I can only recommend this one! If you are looking for a breezy afternoon read that will make you chuckle, this is the one for you.

At Last

Elliott and Devorah having history is about all that enticed me with their story. For the life of me, I couldn't see why she couldn't get past being in a relationship with her best friend and his younger brother (Elliott), whom was now married to her other best friend (Cassidy), that she encouraged him to be with. It seemed like she wanted to stay alone and miserable. She was irritating and annoying. I surmised it to be her age, yet she was in her early 30s, so it was just her.

Besides their history, I didn't see why Elliott didn't just leave Devorah where she was. Her insecurities really had no merit and with him being able to have any woman he wanted, it baffled me why he kept up with her shenanigans. I guess love makes and keeps you in crazy things.

I loved the friends, Demi, Trey, Cadence, Celina, and Cassidy. I didn't care too much for Everett. I'd like to know what he did or why, I guess, to mess up his marriage.

This was a good start to this series. Hope book 2 is better.

This was my first Nicole Falls book and it will not be my last. It is refreshing to read a love story between two healthy and whole black adults. There was no cheating, trauma bonding or toxic foolishness.

There were some issues with Devorah's fear of commitment but Ellis was a stand up dude. The main characters are who want to read about but when you have a great supporting cast of characters it makes the story that much better. There were also a lot of laughs and SEX. Of course there has to be SEX! There were a few editing mistakes that prevented it from being 5 stars but do yourself a favor, read this book. I can't wait to read the next two in this series. I'm going to read my way through Nicole Falls catalog.
