The author, Martha Root was a very simple middle-aged woman who traveled around the world four times meeting, kings, queens, and presidents of all countries and who spoke about the Baha'i Faith to all of them. She traveled to Iran, (Persia) to the places Tahirih lived and taught, and where she was martyred. Tahirih was one of the most celebrated women in Iranian history. Her poetry is sought by scholars in every land. She was a genius and very beautiful. Even the Shah wanted to marry her and have her in his harem. She became one of the 19 Letters of the Living, disciples of the Bab (The Gate) who proclaimed that He was the Herald to Baha'u'llah the latest Manifestation of God. She was the only woman disciple. She took off her veil, which was taboo, in Iran in the early 1800s, and proclaimed the emancipation of women.
