The book was great. It was one of the most humor-filled books I've ever read and it gave a lot of important information. It really helps you understand the Japanese, as opposed to just hearing some hearsay. It gives you examples of contrast between Americans and the Japanese. Anyone interested in Japan should read this book. Absolutely brilliant!

For a seasoned expat like myself living in Japan, this book answered so many confusing questions I still had about Japanese culture. A must read for anyone who wants to have that itch you can't seem to scratch about understanding the Japanese.

This book is one star shy from being a classic. The reason it doesn't become that classic book I can take anywhere at anytime is is some of the irreverent moments in the book are a little too tongue in cheek, completely exaggerated and gratuitous. I'm talking sarcastic humor only people who have actually lived or studied Japan would understand.

A bit outdated as it was published 20 years ago, but it was $1 at HousingWorks and I was going to Japan so...

Despite that, it was funny and still relatively accurate
