This is a Danganronpa spinoff, so I knew it was going to be weird, but I wasn't ready for HOW it would be weird. This was initially less like Danganronpa and more like a cross between Psycho-pass- with the two opposite-natured detectives pairing up- and Dexter, because that title isn't messing about and the concept of killing murderers for personal 'justice' is here too. I don't think I read the best translation though which made reading feel a little clunky, since there was some spelling and grammatical errors floating about. An interesting read and I might continue, but it doesn't have the same atmosphere and charm as the main Danganronpa titles.
2016 was a plentiful year for DR related content: the upcoming anticipation of the "Danganronpa 3" anime as well as the "New Danganronpa V3" game had fans looking forward to the release dates. This spinoff manga was one of many first releases, with a bit of teasers in terms of the DR storyline and it wasn't until volume 1's chapter 3 that revealed the full title.
The manga's story is simple, with the MC, Asano Misaki joining the Future Foundation branch dedicated for unusual crimes. She is then assigned a partner in which she immediately judges for being a slacker and of questionable appearance. Everything after that is essentially the duo attempting to solve the crimes and the killer being found out along with an over-the-top finish. There isn't much to the story and the simple premise is presented, but as the story progresses things start to fall apart. DR as a whole is unrealistic but this takes it all. The MC's partner, Hijirihara Takumi, displays an unrealistic amount of plot armor, shit in general and his abilities/fighting with his weapon usually involve some sort of bullshittery- main examples being able to dash and move at abnormal speeds, slice things clean off, survive an abnormal amount of damage, one-shot his enemies, and slice off his partner's neck with it reattaching and her surviving. Holy fuck. The other characters and enemies aren't better either, with their motives and general reactions usually presented to be illogical, over the top or crap just for the sake of the story. The organizations and systems such as Future Foundation are never elaborated further on what they do and their functions- In which I'd assume based on the timeline the manga showed signs of being obviously rushed and hacked.
Overall if you don't mind the blazing bullshittery, the occasional IQ drop and are willing to laugh at the hilariously over the top crap, this is an alright read if you just want to turn your brain off.
Summary This book is about Misaki Asano who is a new recruit, working as a special investigator for the 6th Division's Special Case Criminal Investigation Unit, a group dedicated to solving the most bizarre and difficult murder cases. Alongside her partner, Takumi Hijirihara, they aim to combat despair one case at a time. Their most difficult case is that of Killer Killer, a serial killer who targets other murderers. Review: Overall, this book was great especially for me, who loves the Danganronpa series. Turns out that this book takes place in between Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls, and Super Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. I tend to like characters more than the plot, but I really enjoyed the plot this time. The characters were well developed in terms of personality, and of course, the character design is amazing.

As insane as most of the things from this series and that’s why I love it. I love how they twist things and play with dark topics in such a jokey way.
I love MOST of the games and the anime but After V3 I was so mad. Iv never been so annoyed at a game before. But this really captures the spirit of Danganronpa. It’s definitely from that universe. It even has the twists at the end of the chapters that make you so confused, worried, intrigued all at the same time just like the Games
...I wanted to take a break from Danganronpa, right? Anyway, for a spinoff, this manga is really amazing. There are no Class Trials, no Monokuma, just murders with Danganronpa characters randomly popping up, so it's actualy a nice break. It's got my boy Sakakura and my girl Kyoko. God Bless.
Absolutely thrilling/amazing. I love it. I was shocked when I found out during the third chapter that it was a Danganronpa spinoff. Even if you are not a fan of the franchise or have never heard of the franchise, you will still enjoy this series if you like gruesome murders and over the top violence. However, knowing about the games in the franchise and their storylines will only enhance your enjoyment. Characters from the anime Danganronpa 3; Future Arc also appear so keep an eye out for them.
