White-hot, blinding, and dangerous.

That's exactly what Volt is.

He's electric.

The first time I met him, my body reacted. It coiled, sizzled, and sparked. I knew I wanted him because he was the first man to make me feel dead and alive at the exact same time.

But within a short conversation, I knew he was unattainable.

Unavailable.

Now we're just friends.

But will we stay friends?

I'm so irritated. Yep, you heard me correctly. But I think I'm more irritated with myself than this story. You see, when you read the first chapter and immediately know what "the drama" in this story is going to be, it pretty much stops appealing to the reader. But when you're a good writer, you know that you can pull readers in with the story regardless, right? And so began my irritation.

From the very beginning we meet Volt who gets his heart ripped out of his body with just a look. Dramatic, right? Yes, but oh so true. Then we meet Taylor who is new to NY, starting a new job, but thankfully has a best friend to lean on. Too bad her best friend still hasn't gotten over her heart being broken over a year ago. Do you see where this is going? Cuz I did. Just sayin'. Did I mention that we find all of this information out within the first chapter, maybe two? Yep.

After starting her new job and not wanting to hang out with her depressed BFF, Taylor finds herself making friends with her co-worker. She's invited out for a fun night with her and a lot of guy friends and before long, Taylor and Volt meet. To say the physical chemistry wasn't there would be a lie, but Volt's reputation keeps Taylor thinking FRIENDS. Yes, I screamed the word. Because in all honesty, I totally understood her hold up. And THIS is where the author does a fantastic job pulling the reader in to the story of becoming friends and all that goes along with it, including how feelings start to blur and change.

But then I'm left in that irritated state again. Why? Because even though I still know what the drama is, and have been waiting for the poo to hit the fan, it doesn't happen. Nope. Nada. Nothing. Zilch. In fact, now I'm left staring at my Kindle wondering WTH just happened and why hasn't this ended. I mean, I totally get it. This is a series and we need to make this last, right? But there are so many other characters and things going on in "that" part of the story, I was assuming that the series would just be about the additional characters (which by the way I found more interesting in some way or another). But nope, I'm wrong again. See. Irritated.

*I received this book from the Jeep Diva in exchange for my honest opinion.

I'm loving the heroine, Taylor, in this series. She recognizes that Volt uses woman for sex only and she shut him down. It's so rare to find a heroine that doesn't think they can change the guy. She was upfront and honest and that allowed for her and Volt to become friends instead. This is the classic story of friends turning into more, which is the only way Volt would have saw past Taylors looks to see her from the inside. But is it too late? On to book 2 to find out. Charge is book one in the Electric series and is an Adult, Contemporary Romance written by E.L. Todd. I was gifted a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review through Tasty Book Tours .

5 “just friends” Stars!
Enchanting, enjoyable and full of swoon. Definitely a memorable page-turner!

The Review:
Noooo! You can’t end it like that!! *cries*

That ending is killing me for sure, and waiting for the next book is going to be torture. It’s the best kind of torture, but torture nonetheless.

Told in dual POV’s, this read had me hooked from the moment it opens, with a prologue that is downright heartbreaking. And the feels just kept on coming as this book explores a broken man and an awkward woman who connect in the most fundamental way. I loved every minute of their rapport, attraction and affection. Such a fabulous read!

Story/Characters...
Volt Rosenthal has been burned ... incinerated beyond repair. On the day he’s set to propose, he’s betrayed in the worse possible way and everything inside of him shuts down. He loses all faith in humanity and with his trust shattered, he no longer finds comfort even in the ones who love him most. His entire personality changes overnight and now he saturates himself in meaningless one-night stands and avoids emotional connections at all costs.

But somehow, Taylor worms her way in.

Taylor has just moved to New York to start working for a posh private high school after completing her own schooling to become a teacher. She reconnects with her best friend, Sara, and is delighted to be making new friends in her first few days of her new job. She’s not really looking but is definitely open for a relationship and knows that when she does find someone, she wants someone who’s stable and ready to settle down.

Interest flares the moment she spots Volt across a bar room, but soon she realizes his penchant for one-night stands goes against her own needs and after an awkward pass and fumble, these two embark on a remarkable friendship. I loved how these two chose to interact with one another. They were fun and energetic and honest. They truly knew themselves well enough to put their attraction on hold long enough to become best friends ... and watching their platonic relationship turn into a slow burn was something special. They had definite chemistry but they needed their friendship more.

I loved the writing. It was brilliant and strong and kept me glued to the pages. And I loved this story. These two are at separate ends of the spectrum but also unconsciously barreling towards one another. Volt is confused but even in his denial, you could tell his feelings for Taylor went beyond friendship. And poor Taylor, she decided right from the start to only see Volt in a platonic way so she wouldn’t get hurt. But I think, given the right push, she’s going to open her eyes and her heart and see things differently.

There are several secrets between Volt and Taylor, starting with who his father is, how he feels about her and of course, the big reveal of who is past ex is. I’m pretty sure I know that big reveal which I hope comes in the next book, and I’m also sure, when it happens, things are going to go nuclear! And I can’t wait!!

That ending was intense! Knowing that Volt is going to have to set his fears aside to win his girl is going to be interesting and I can’t wait to watch the sparks fly and the budding chemistry turn into a tempting seduction.

The Wrap Up:
This was a fantastic read that shows how the power of true love can mend even the most broken of hearts. And after that proclamation at the end, I can’t wait for book two. I want those explosive answers and I want the angsts and I want the romance and I know the author is going to give it to us, because the build up was beautifully done. Definitely recommending this one.

Well now I'm really fucking annoyed. I *thought* I was reading Charge and, ok, it wasn't amazing and I was planning on having a few little rants - about the hero's ego, about the heroine's "non-judgmental" judging, and about authors who don't know how to use the past perfect - but it wasn't bad. Apparently, though, this was just a teaser. Electric, maybe?

Let me level with you here: I never knowingly download samples. I consider them a waste of time. This book is called Charge in my ebook library. It says Charge on the cover in my ebook library. But I turned the page at the end of Chapter Ten and was faced with this:

"Thank you so much for reading this teaser to my new ELECTRIC series. If you enjoyed the teaser, you can preorder CHARGE now. Find out how at http://bit.ly/Charge_blog
Thanks for your continued support. If you keep reading, I’ll keep writing.

"Charge" by E. L. Todd

My Thoughts..

This was another amazingly good read by this author. You will be able to tell this will be another series that will keep you turning the pages to see what is up between Volt and Taylor. There are a few other characters that will keep your attention that helps give this story a well developed plot. I can't wait to see what will happen when Taylor finds out about her two best friends. I will leave it at that and just say "Charge' ends with a cliffhanger so we will have to pick up the next series...'Spark' to find out more about this delicious story.

From the very beginning, I knew where the story was going.

Volt got his heart completely shattered by his girlfriend and leaves with no explanation.
Taylor moves to New York with her BFF Sara.

Sara is still hung up on the break up with her boyfriend because she doesn’t know where things went wrong.

See where this is going?

Taylor meets Volt through mutual friends when she decides to hang out with them because Sara is not into being out.

All of this set up the drama with a conclusion that I already had in my mind. I kept telling myself that it was so strange seeing Taylor always going out with her new friends while Sara, her best friend, was left behind. Taylor spent so much time with Volt, yet he and Sara never got the chance to “meet”.

Taylor and Volt have chemistry. They are both attracted to each other, but instead agree to just be friends. I liked this. I wanted to see them build a relationship before jumping into bed together. I liked reading about the progression of that relationship, but it was still difficult for me to let go of that irritation over Sara just being on the sidelines while Taylor had this whole different “life” away from her.

There are many characters, all having very interesting stories that I want to read more about, I just hope that after that cliffhanger and the way this story is going, things get resolved soon.

Charge
Electric 1
E.L Todd
Author review
4 stars

Arc received in exchange for an honest review.

This us my 2nd read from E.L Todd, and I’m glad to say I enjoyed it much more this time around. For me Charge was a bit of a sense overload. Main characters Volt ( yep that’s his name) & Taylor have totally different looks on life and backgrounds. Volt works on hook ups, sleep with ‘em, kick ‘em out and don’t bother with names... Taylor on the other hand has worked hard for what she has and relationships are less about sex and more about that emotional connection, so we’ve all heard about opposites attract – well here it is.

Charge is told in both Taylor and Volt’s POV, and although I’m not normally a fan of that writing style it again works for this story. There just wouldn’t be enough backbone for one side.

Taylor has moved to a new job as a science teacher for a prestigious private school, and with no other friends except for Sara, who wants to stay home and hide out after a break up with a boyfriend, so when she meets fellow teacher Natalie she jumps at the chance to get out. Meeting Natalie ‘s brother, and best friend is a hoot, but the sexy stranger Volt shows up her inner goddess has a party. He is gorgeous on a whole new level but his use of women very quickly put those feelings to bed. No manwhore is getting into those pants.

Volt no longer sees women as an object to love, they are objects of his affection, particularly in the bedroom but that is pretty much where it ends. A horrible breakup with a girl he truly fell in love with and shattered his heart into a million pieces. That cheating bitch has turned him into a woman user. That change in his life made a huge change for his future. Giving in his teaching job to start his own tutoring business has worked a treat for him. Now all suit wearing , and rich and a body built for sin, he sows his seeds. But when he meets Taylor something in him changes.... She is gorgeous, strong and is making him crazy. Her no nonsense attitude towards Volt quickly has the become best friends with sex totally off the table.

Working together in life, work and love Volt discovers his feelings for Taylor that he has put away in a locked cupboard slowly winds its way back to the surface. Seeing her with other men are slowly killing him... But telling her how he feels may destroy everything they have together. And at 61% I was like thank god they are finally getting together... the whole time before was like constant foreplay on steroids. But Volt’s attack of the good, pushes a heartbroken Taylor away. But this night will be a revelation for Volt, now he finds his Taylor is someone he can no longer hide his feelings from. Heartbreaking pasts and stunning futures will push Volt to get his woman, but sadly he may have left his run a bit late. With Taylor now seeing someone else , he will have pull on his big boy pants and man up for what he wants.

Part 2, Spark will continue their non relationship, and I’m curious to see what happens.

***4 Well played Stars***

A strange way to start a review, but that’s how I felt when I came to the end.

Well. Played.

And it’s not a bad thing in this instance. Actually, it’s kind of refreshing. It’s definitely a change from what I’ve been reading of late and sometimes a break from the norm is a good thing.

From the very start of the book we are shown what the Sword of Damocles in Volt and Taylor’s relationship will be, and it’s a hell of a sharp point, so for the first few chapters I waited anxiously for it to drop, soon that started to fade into the background. Not because I’d forgotten about it, but because I started to become invested in Volt and Taylor’s budding friendship and that had me turning the pages to see what would come next. There is quite a bit of back and forth going on with them about what they want from each other, but considering what they’ve experienced and what they want for their futures, it makes sense.

Of the two, I find myself on #TeamVolt. This isn’t to say that I don’t want to tie him down, smack him around a bit and tell him to get over himself and grow a pair, because I really really want to do that. But, when he does show who he is beyond his manwhore-ness, he’s a pretty amazing guy with a generous and compassionate, though damaged, heart. Taylor I like. I really do. I love her passion for her job and how, for the most part, comfortable she is in her own skin. She has hang ups just like anyone would, but when she focuses on something, she goes for it full throttle. That focus though is also what had me on shaky ground with her, even as much as I admired it. There were times where she became blinded by her own vision of how things should be and though she wasn’t wrong, it still made my eyes sore.

I didn’t see that ending coming until it was right in front of me, hence the ‘well played’ but it worked for me and definitely has me wanting more. Not only of Volt and Taylor, but of their group of friends because there’s a lot more going on there and I definitely want to see how it all turns out.

GAAAAAH, I have no idea what to say about this, the book itself wasn't too bad, BUT the idea to drag this into a series of four books? FOUR?! I'm so irritated...
Two I get. Hell, even three if it has to be, but four?? Four books where all they do is run back and forth between each other, kinda being jealous, kinda not and jumping around their feelings? nope. Sorry. I'm done. Tried an excerpt from the next book, but nah, didn't get into - was more pissed that the first book was just.... that.

It was too predictable (I could tell from the first few pages who the 'mysterious' ex-gf was) and then only revealing this in the third or fourth book of the series? that really doesn't keep me hanging waiting for more. I'm sorry, but my attention got lost along the way. Though, I could be a special case.

Volt is hung up on the heartbreak from his previous relationship that it's turned him into a massive player. He refuses to get burnt again, so no string hook ups are his thing now.

Until he's introduced to Taylor, who works with his Friend Natalie as a teacher, she is new to the city. Taylor is different from all the other women Volt encounters, she is ditzy and kind of nerdy. Taylor doesn't like to judge others lifestyle's but when Volt tries to come onto her she knocks him back and friend zones him.

It's not until they spend time together as friends that Volts feeling's start to change, but Taylor is unwilling to see Volt as more even when his demeanour towards her changes.

Can Volt make Taylor more and trust her and forget his past? I can't wait to see what happens next.

This book is a cop out. 200 pages and there is no climax or end. It just stops. Authors who are publishing partial books are cheating. This book was free but the next book is $5. Do you risk it for $5? Will book 2 end or be another dead end? Will you have to fork over money to finish the story in book 3 or 4?

Honestly, if this had been a complete book, I would have given it a higher rating. The stories the characters have running are interesting, but a fiction has to have the conflict and resolution in one spot to be a book.

Also dann, lest es unbedingt!!

The summary here doesn’t do the story justice but that’s ok. I got this first installment as an aedd on to the last EL Todd that i read so that was a nice treat. I think that’s how i got into the last series as well? Anyway, we have an ‘electric’ story here about another group of friends that has a semblance of romance mixed into their crew.

We start this story in the past – with Volt our leading guy who’s on the verge of proposing to the love of his life only to walk into a bar to meet his buddies to find her kissing her ex boyfriend. that changes his entire trajectory, and instead of being an open and friendly guy, he’s turned into a manwhore who wants nothing to do with love and romance at all.

We then meet Taylor – new to NYC as she’s taken a teaching job in a new city – we know that she’s from Washington and at times makes it sound like she wants to go back but can’t for some reason (i’d love to find out why to be honest) and the only person she knows is Sara – her best friend from growing up, who’s nursing a broken heart because she’s the girl that Volt was going to propose to and things got messed up. Clearly there’s more to that story since she doesn’t know why he broke up with her which means that whatever it was that Volt saw, wasn’t the truth. The interesting thing here is that we know that Volt is his middle name, and that Sara’s boyfriend was Muriel, but clearly they are one and the same. I can’t wait to see what happens when these girls realize that this guy is the same.

Anyway – throughout this introduction to the series, we watch Taylor try to get her footing in the NYC dating landscape only to get her heartbroken quickly by one guy, slip into another relationship with another guy who seems to be great, and have this amazing best friend friendship with Volt – after meeting him, being attracted buy realizing that they are not right for each other in theory.

Volt on the other hand, we watch him evolve a bit in this story. He’s still closed off to love and romance, but we also get to see how he opens to Taylor until she pushes too hard and the walls go up again. He realizes too late that he’s got feelings for her and that’s where the rollercoaster really resides.

On top of these two, we have Natalie, a girl who’s also a teacher with Taylor who introduces her to a gang of friends. Natalie has this crush on Jared, a boy in their circle and he doesn’t see her like that so we get to watch her pine for him for the bulk of this story. It’s only after Taylor gets her to go out and she meets a guy that she’s into that we see Jared start to feel different about things.

Then there’s Derek, Volts best friend and while he seems like he’s just coasting along but i’m sure that we’ll get to see his story deepen soon.

We are left in this story with Taylor on the verge of losing her job because she’s not finding her footing as a new teacher, Volt has encountered a troubled child that makes him worry and the chemistry between Taylor and Volt changes their dynamic on every page. Add to that the insanity of Natalie and Jared and Derek and well, it all makes for a great story. I’m getting ready to dive into the next book now and can’t wait to see what’s next.

I really like how E.L. Todd writes but her books can be somewhat pricey. So I don't always buy at first glance. The first book to this series was/is free, so there was no hesitant to download.

Quick summary. Taylor is a new teacher at a private "preppy school". This is her first teaching job out of school but and most wouldn't get so lucky. Taylor's resume is spectacularly which helped her land this prestigious position. There is where she met her soon to be friend, Nat. A coworker with lots of single guy friends.
One particular single friend, Volt. They meet at a bar but he doesn't really notice her like she notices him. Volt only has eyes for girls that will be a quick lay and nothing more.

Taylor is wanting someone that is awesome and could be a potential husband. Taylor quickly realizes that is not who Volt is.... but while she realizes this; a BFF is formed.

and the story begins.

I like the side characters. The quick banter between everyone. and the beginning story between Volt and Clay. Volt is a cocky, strong but tender male. Taylor a strong, somewhat confident teacher.

Dual POV. Without saying really anything about the story itself... You will definitely enjoy. Couldn't put it down. BUTTTTTTTT, I am writing this after reading the second book. See below.

Second Book review:
4.99 is somewhat steep but well worth it when the story is good. Short and quick review, I agree with ALOT of other reviewers. Book 2 is basically Volt and Taylor playing cat and mouse. The best part of the whole story was between Volt and Clay. Though I couldn't put the book down and somewhat enjoyed the cat and mouse relationship, I would have like more depth in their story. Nothing really changed between their relationship until the end. I felt like Volt became a weak less confident man and Taylor became a more self unsure woman and who isn't very observant.
You can tell other stories were building up. When I finished book two, I really wanted to continue the series but i just couldn't fathom paying 5.00 for book three and then another 5.00 for book 4.
If you are willing to pay, than I think you would be in for a treat to read this series but if you don't want to pay, I wouldn't even start reading book 1.

Klare Leseempfehlung!

I felt like this series had great potential, and the first book really did set the stage for like a dramatic romance series, but it pretty much just irritated me. However, I still couldn't put the book down, and I managed to consume all four books in the series in a matter of less than forty-eight hours.🤣

I did not realise at first that this series was about the same couple. I actually thought it was gonna be an interconnected standalone series, but I quickly found out that wasn't the case.

Then it left me thinking....how was just a simple romcom going to drag out for 4 books, unless it had some intense plot line, which it didn't, by the way.

I liked Volt as a main character. I thought he started off strong - In the whole, he became a reformed f*** boy for a girl that he quickly fell in love with - at the statt of the book he deals with a sh*tter of a situation incolving his ex GF. However, i did NOT like that just because of his past, he was so quick to anger and aggression, and the way he was in that scene with Taylor.

BUT I did enjoy the pining, the longing, and the grovelling that came after it.

I initially enjoyed Taylor as an fmc as well, but the amount of miscommunication that repeatedly happened throughout this book and then the annoying drama of her having to choose between her friend and her boyfriend, who she claimed, was the love of her life was so infuriating! I wanted to reach into the book and smack her upside the head numerous times. Her BFF was an absolute ogre, and I disliked her from the beginning!!

But all's well, that ends well, I found the whole Clay aspect quite random, but also it gave the series a little more depth to it. And found that the epilogue was a nice close out to the whole series.

I really liked this series.

The story begins with Muriel wanting to meet up with his friends to share his good news. They were all going to meet at the bar, Titos, to celebrate. Muriel walked into the bar and what he saw changed his life forever. He left without saying anything to anyone. His friends never knew what happened to make things change. One day he was so happy and the next day he was angry and embarrassed.

The new science teacher at Bristol Academy, Taylor, was new to New York. She met Natalie who was an English teacher at the same school. Natalie invited Taylor to come with her to hang out with her brother and friends. Everyone became fast friends. The only one of the group that was different was a guy named Volt. Taylor thought he was hot but he was also a player. Volt thought she was cute but she gave him the impression that she wasn't into him.

Taylor was new to New York and didn't know her way around. She was standing on the sidewalk trying to read a map when Volt saw her from across the street. He felt bad for her and went over to see if she needed help. Her cellphone died so she was lost. She didn't even know her address. Volt helped Taylor get to the school because she knew how to get home from there.

Taylor hung out with the gang regularly but became best friends with Volt. It was easy for them to connect with each other because the pressure was off. They knew that they were only going to be friends.

Things changed after awhile. Volt and Taylor knew they cared about each other but couldn't admit it. Taylor tried dating looking for Mr. Right. Natalie talked her into getting on a dating site to find a date. Volt found out and flipped out. He didn't want Taylor with anyone but him but he never said a word to her.

Volt tried to stay busy helping Clay study for his SATS. Clay was so far behind in his learning abilities. Volt was very patient and really cared about this kid.

Best book I've read since 50 Shades of Grey !!!!!! WHAT ????? AND I might just like this MORE!!!!!

I love love love this book I can't wait to buy the next book in this series actually the whole set. I can't explain how much I enjoyed this book and do it justice. I am so happy to have a new FAVORITE author I've never been so captivated with a book and it has everything a great plot that's not forseeable 2 pages in. I love the steamy erotic scenes but most books just center there focus on those and lose the concept that some of us like that in our books but we're still fans of a good plot and a great story to go along with those steamy scenes. Thank you E.L. Todd for such great character's and an amazing plot and some great steamy scenes also. I love all the dynamics of this story and the relationships with all the characters. I literally read this book in under an hour I couldn't put it down and I didn't, God forbid if anyone would have tried to interrupt my reading time. Could No would have gotten ugly. Lol. I can't wait to buy all your books and I will be posting reviews and blasting you on all social media your the best might just have a serious fan stalker here.😀 Thank you for making a not so great day good again a perfect slip into a fantasy world I truly needed today.

Naming the series Electric is an understatement. There is so much electricity between Taylor and Volt. The sexual tension between them is intense. I found myself yelling at them to admit it to each other. But I can understand not wanting to lose a best friend. Volt was deeply gutted and does not want a relationship, he just wants to have fun. Taylor wants a boyfriend, but has been hurt as well. These two make a great pair. I really enjoyed the banter between them. The pages steam up during those really hot scenes. This book was so good, I devoured it in one day and I had to read the next book in the series immediately.

Lia Langola and Michael Ferraiuolo are a perfect team for this story. Ms. Langola narrates both Taylor and Volt amazingly. She is able to bring out Taylor's strong and independent side. Ms. Langola narrates with such emotion that it was easy to relate to the struggles of the characters. As for those steamy scenes, Ms. Langola can ignite the fire with her masterful narration and sultry voice. Michael Ferraiuolo narrates Volt with ease. Mr. Ferraiuolo brings life to Volt. Volt is scorned and Mr. Ferraiuolo brings out the struggles Volt faces. I enjoy the flexibility of Mr. Ferraiuolo's tones to narrate female characters smoothly. I love this narrating team. Their voices are compliments to each other and makes the story flow smoothly.

3.5 Stars for this rom com

Charge is the first book in the Electric Series. The books need to be read in chronological order because I'm sure the next one will pick up where this one left off.

Volt is a certified bachelor. His heart and outlook on life was destroyed when he found the woman he wanted to marry kissing her ex. He closed his heart for good and was a revolving door for women.
Taylor, a new nyc school teacher is naive with a rosy disposition. She is determined to make new friends since her "bestie" Is still not over her break-up that occurred the year before.

I found this book hilarious at times but predictable. It is obvious who her best friend's "EX" is but I deeply enjoyed the banter of the characters. There is a definite bond between them all. Looking forward to the next ones.

I’m haven’t read a E.L. book before and I’ve been feeling stunted with my ARCs. And I’ve had this on my kindle forever. I’m glad I did.

Charge is the story of opposites attract. Two people who slowly form a friendship and then boom, their feelings creep up on them.

Volt is your typical manwhore but what sets him apart from your regular guy sleeping his way around is his love for education and children. He helps a boy who is very poor and that made me look past his flaws.

But Taylor is a mediocre heroine. She’s not a simpering whiner but neither a fiery in-your-face gal either. I liked her but I didn’t love her.

The two together, though, they have good chemistry. It was subtle and then it wasn’t. I liked the gradual build up, I loath insta-love!

I gave it for stars for that alone! I will continue with the series.
