Two years after his wife's murder, Kirby Mayhew submits his resignation letter as pastor of Harvest Church. He's ready to pack up his life and move away from Caney Cove and away from the shadow of grief he's been living under. But a deathbed confession from the ailing Trudy Andrus reveals new information about his wife's killer. Did the man convicted of Julie's murder act alone? Was someone else to blame for her death? As Kirby pursues the truth, an unseen enemy fights to keep it hidden. Kirby enlists the help of Carson Todd, a local attorney who worked on the prosecution's case until she was sidelined for asking too many questions. Only together can they unravel the truth. But at what cost?

This story was about a pastor whose name was Kirby ( a quirky name for a pastor I think) His wife was murdered but he decided he wanted to know why not just the man who was convicted for it. He got no answers when he investigated on his own. He gave up being a pastor while he did this . He eventually met a prosecutor , a woman in a wheelchair. Later on she tried to help him. They got to enjoy each others company. Soon they found the information he was looking for. The man in jail wasnt the one who committed the murder, someone else did it ,plus other murders too. Finally all the answer they were looking for .

After finishing this book I was ready to go straight to #2 in the series. I was anxious to read about the next "chapter" in Kirby's life, but I couldn't find a book #2! I really enjoyed the depiction of Kirby's growth and healing, as well as his adventures at solving crimes. I thought the book was well written and gave a look at how Christians can struggle with grief and problems, but still look to God for guidance and help. The book was not preachy and was a good mystery and story of human relationships, but with Christian values and characters.

Not my favorite

I really struggled to finish this one. It wasn't so bad that I had to skim. I just didn't feel the romance or the intrigue. And the author certainly didn't accomplish both.

Good mystery

I really enjoyed this book. Kirby Mayhew is a pastor whose wife is murdered. Through the process of finding her killer, he realizes God has plans for his future that Kirby never anticipated.

Well-written

The characters were likeable, the story was engaging and I couldn't put it down, but the best part of this book was how well-written it was.

Excellent Read!

This book was certainly a pleasure to read! I hated for it to end and look forward to the next book when it is written. The story is told in the first person (which I didn't think I would like), but the main character's thoughts were hilarious throughout because of the scrapes he would get into. We also were given his spiritual thoughts throughout the book as he moved past grieving his murdered wife to healing. So...sad, funny, mysterious and spiritually moving. Great mix!
