I rarely find a book so full of gems and wisdom.
What a phenomenal observer with a grand imagination Fred Dodson is. How wonderful it is that he can create rapport with the reader and that my current viewpoint allows me to be able to relate to this book in such manner.
Please don’t take this book as a one time read. This is better than a university course and it must be thoroughly studied, repeated and practiced in action.
His comprehension of consciousness and ability to share the information in such a clear manner are mind boggling, astonishing.
It’s like the gift that keeps on giving.
Please skip the following lines, if you want a shorter review. I will put them between brackets.
( I am currently building on the momentum that I have been fortunate to enter because of this whole corona pandemic. Last year, in the middle of panic attacks I never thought I would have again, I realized how easily I could put attention on something else. I was aware of the fact that “what you focus on you feel”, but it wasn’t until last year that I pretty much fully comprehended this statement. It’s stunning. At first, I thought I was bipolar, as I could go from happiness to sorrow in a matter of moments, but, when I regained composure, I realized that it's that fast that one can change a viewpoint that is present in awareness.)
Then, I remembered the master of viewpoints Fred Dodson is, and I ran into this book that I felt a tremendous desire to read.
I ran into his books before, but I was on a different consciousness level that didn’t present them as the gems they appear to be on my current level. I did know they were great, but they appeared to be less shiny and comprehensible for me. Also, I was not ready to put them in action, which is still one of my issues, but I am making serious progress.
I’ve read and experienced a lot. My biggest teachers are Lester Levenson, Neville Goddard, Emmet Fox, Florence Scovel Shinn, Advaita Vedanta through Ramana Maharshi (and others) and Tony Robbins.
My previous favorite book was "Keys to ultimate freedom" by Lester Levenson (a compilation of his talks), but this has surpassed it. One of the main differences is that Fred Dodson manages to create rapport with the reader, taking them by the hand with the use of questions and showing them various aspects and viewpoints that can be present in consciousness.
He teaches you how to transcend limitations, by taking you from viewpoint to viewpoint. His work is like a museum/exposition of viewpoints that one could forever walk through, never getting bored.
One of the most amazing things about him is that he encourages you to trust yourself and to fearlessly cruise from viewpoint to viewpoint and to immerse in the one you want to experience.
In the end of my long review, if I can call it that, I would like to say one more thing and to share a quote.
1. No matter the energy level you are on, love and appreciation are two higher aspects that can pretty much be practiced on all levels, and they offer protection, as Fred Dodson says.
2. Here's a quote from Emmet Fox, (which contains an idea Fred Dodson and others have also insisted upon), that I will do my best to use for this book.
"Many people say to me, "I want to get on faster. I want more understanding." And as a rule they go on to ask for a list of books to read or some "advanced course" that they can take.
This attitude is quite mistaken. It implies that spiritual advancement is a question of intellectual activity - of the mere accretion of knowledge. That is true in the study of mathematics or of physics or chemistry, but it is not true in metaphysics. Spiritual growth comes from putting into practice the knowledge we already possess. Instead of reading another book, read your favorite book once more and apply it more carefully than ever in your practice life.
Metaphysics, like music, is both a science and an art. In metaphysics, it is absolutely true that you learn by doing."
From "Around the year with Emmet Fox".

"The miracles of attention and awareness" is that book.
It's a bible of consciousness. Holy ground, 500+.

"Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only..." (James 1:22)

It's going to be hard to find worse book to read for the next decade. It's a very seldom occurrence for me to end a book half way through and never want to look at it again. This happened to me on the occasion of reading "The Miracles.." for the first time in several years.

The beginning of this book was extremely thought provoking, it provided some scientific explanation and logical concepts related to attention and focus backed up by scientific research sprinkled with a digestible amount of spiritual thought. I was really going to like it and hoped that this is going to be the tone of the rest of the book but I got bitterly disappointed.
Chapter after chapter the author stumbled on his own concepts and ideas talking about things that are neither here nor there such as his loose divagation about extraterrestrials and his encounter with them as if he was having a casual Sunday walk with the dog.

The following chapters were merely a decline from substance the book had at the beginning into another love-kindness-compassion New Age bull. I still kept on reading gasping for some value but the author had lost me at “never prepare for the negative”. So.. hope for the best and never prepare for the worst because that would just redirect your attention towards the negative happenings that we, thankfully, don't experience on this planet at all... After reading that I just shut the book. More so- it got me cross out all the positions of this author I had on my list of books to read.

Another thing to mention that this artwork serves as a commercial spot for the author to casually mention between the lines the courses he does with reference to his website, cheering on the sideline his own successes. I guess you got to have enough attention to see through the agenda. I don't blame him though. Everyone wants to live and maximise their profit. I'm just not the target audience for that as the value I find there is scarce.

I will be reading this book once every year, so it gets stuck in my brain. Very logical and easy to read
Stuck on Something? Improve Something Else!

Some subjects for improvement are:
Health/Body
Money
Career
Family & Friends
Romance & Sexuality
Mind & Spirit
Learning & Abilities
Energy
If you have been feeling stuck on one subject for a long time, I recommend
you improve another. If for example, you have been trying to heal a health
problem for a long time but to no avail, release the Attention stuck on that
subject by improving another area…your relationships for example.
------------------------------------------------------------------
What do people want? They all want Attention. But what is the difference
between wanting Attention and giving it? Giving it is the powerful position.
Because you are giving people what they want. Interesting people are the
ones that are interested. The people who seek Attention appear
uninteresting. Those who give you interest, appear interesting
——————————-

What is the connection between time and Attention? Does time not only
exist when Attention goes to a thought about the past or future, away from
the experience of the present moment?
What is the connection between priorities

————————/——
contemplative qeustion
What happens to Attention when you try to keep secrets? Does your field
of Attention become constricted?

————//

To succeed at
anything, you need to put Attention there. If your Attention is already
occupied by many other things, you won’t have the capacity to put it on
something new. Sometimes old things must be shed, especially those that
do not serve you. The Attention you invest in something, gives you a
return-on-investment. But Attention must be given to the end result that is
wanted, not to the lack of what is wanted.
——————-//——

Expanded Attention
Being too concerned about yourself is a limitation. If you release your
concern about your reputation, or how you look to others, or whether you
will succeed, or what others think about your work, you gain creative
freedom. Attention is no longer stuck on a small sphere around your own
head, no longer stuck on worry. No longer strongly identified with “I” and
“me, me, me”; your sphere of influence expands to things “outside of
yourself”. “Paradoxically”, the more concerned you are about yourself and
your influence, the less you have. A few small exercise that will expand
your sphere-of-influence and perception, and help you get out of
identifying with that tiny body and head you call “me”:
* While taking a walk, notice when you are preoccupied with thinking.
Release that tendency and instead shift your Awareness to your
surroundings; the objects, plants and people in your surroundings. Become
interested in the world. Every time you have a relapse into thinking, return
to extroverting your Attention again.
* Anonymously make someone a gift or an act of secret charity.
* Genuinely forgive and then publicly praise someone you've held a grudge
against.

* Spontaneously give up trying to solve something you’ve been thinking
about for a long time, and just forget about it.
Enjoy the expansion.

WILLPOWER

one-pointedness as a
meditation has many hundreds of other beneficial effects, a few of which
are: Total peace and calm and training your willpower. I´d recommend at
least 10 minutes of one-pointedness now and then, for anyone. It will do
more for you than any book in the world. You could do it with an object,
with a spot on the wall, with a single thought, with anything as long as you
stick your Attention to it and just keep it there, no matter what. Back when
I did this for seven hours, I went through many different stages and levels
of emotion. I recall going through some melancholy, some frustration,
impatience, fear (of going insane), intense boredom – but I kept on

The book helped me through some harsh and hard times. It is excellently written to pull one's attention from whatever mundanely depressing things you may have been concentrated on and help you learn to do the unthinkable - change the way you think and the way you feel. Definitely a must read.
