Grace & Favour were two sisters with the same biological parents but who were raised in different homes. Grace moved in with another family, if I remember correctly between the age of five and seven, after her mother became pregnant and starting ignoring her.
Grace & Favour was a disjointed read. Rather than chapters, author Upcher wrote in the conversation style where each sister spoke directly to the reader―each conversation was three to five pages long. I found the story hard to follow.
Ehtne naistekas. ;)
Ok book. Light read. Two sisters on opposite continents, separated by childhood tragedy, learn to reconcile their different lives. Narrated from the perspectives of both sisters, raised apart after their mother's suicide.
I loved this book by Caroline Upcher, I hadn't heard of this author before and found the book in an Oxfam shop a couple of days before going on holiday, couldn't put it down and hope to try other books that she has written.
I loved this book, because it was so different, unpredictable and not easily "boxed in" to a genre. it's not quite a romance, or a mystery, nor a piece of deep intellectual literature. It's simply a beautifully told story about the differences between sisters. A very enjoyable read!
Two sisters who never knew each other only of each other meet as adults. Short chapters describe each sister and their feelings for the other. It is interesting to learn that not only do they feel differently, but their lives are also very different.
Not good at all. There are so many things wrong with the various attempts at story lines, its hard to know where to begin. Furthermore, the writing style is reminiscent of a junior high creative writing exercise, but longer. Walk away from this one!
Although sisters, Grace & Favour meet late in life. Alternately both tell us why they never met before, how their first encounter was and what changed for them afterwards.
I liked the writing and the story such different sisters. Really demonstrates the debate between nature vs. nurture. Also very British. The ending was a bit of a let down though.
