Alicia Jones has a life that just keeps getting more complicated and ever more dangerous.
Toward the Rim of the Orion arm lies the unknown. She’s tasked to start exploring it, and Earth’s leaders don’t want to wait a couple of years to build the fleets first.
Then there are the Seltan, a race that lives in the core, they could attack at any time.
Technology is another struggle, as she continually pushes herself for the next breakthrough in both new fields, and redesigns of the old. Especially as she starts to grasp the truth behind the design of those that seeded the galaxy with life.
It’s a good thing she flourishes under pressure, of course there is one more thing that might be more disturbing and dangerous than all the rest that she’ll need to deal with. Politics.
I've been an avid book reader since I was a teenager in the 1980's. My preferred genre's are science fiction and fantasy.
I wrote some short stories and was encouraged to try writing and self publishing by some friends. I work in computers and writing is an obsessive hobby I have been trying to hone for a couple of years now. I'll let you judge if I have succeeded or not.
The story line is still very interesting, but the lack of decent editing is getting more and more annoying as I continue reading. I’d give up if I wasn’t so hooked on getting to the conclusion of this series.
The best sample of editing problems I found in this book: “got up and left the bridge with false haughtier.” should be “got up and left the bridge with false hauteur.” Someone needs a dictionary!
There's a reason why it is call Space Opera and not Science Opera - the 'Alicia Jones' series tries to be both and doesn't pull it off. Essentially the series is about finding problems and solving them through scientific breakthroughs. There are always new problems and, without exception, there is always a solution. With the Knomen Empire torn torn and a new confederation of planets working peacefully together for the most part you'd expect things to be quiet, but no! The Seltans, a race who live at the core, want help to defend and overcome the Bugs (a completely alien species which attacks every nine years in huge numbers and are close to breaching the Seltan defences). They argue, not unconvincingly, that one the Seltan are gone the Bugs will simply move on to the next target, and the next, etc, etc! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out which side Alicia will take. The series continues to have editing problems. “New Frontier” contains no surprises for anyone who has reach the previous books in the series. 2 Stars.
What's not to like about this series? A strong female MC, lots of military action, humor, a little romance and good characterization. Needs a bit of editing, but still a very strong story. Now, on to the next one!
This story of a Alien PHD Princess who brings Earth’s Humans into the interstellar empire was a very interesting entertaining fast paced action packed story that I really enjoyed reading.
I really like the ideas in the book. It really is wrote by a fellow geek. I wont stop reading until the last page of the last book. Thank you for the adventure.
Right from the first line you are caught up in a whirl wind of action. Interesting characters that hold your attention! I tore through it! Can't wait to read the next one!
