I really loved the designs, but what is frustrating in all these craft books that use found/re purposed items, is that the best/funkiest items are so difficult to find. Where am I going to find plastic gnomes? Gnomes aside, I really loved her upcycled glasses and watch-face necklace designs.
I didn't spend a ton of time reading the instructions or narratives, but I'd like to take this book out again and really pick through it.
This was not the book I thought it was going to be. I thought it might just be like a book of patterns involving jewelry and other interesting things you could make out of odds and ends, but instead I found a book with more text than patterns. And when it did feature patterns it didn't have accompanying photographs that analyzed exactly what you were supposed to do. I didn't read the text in this book because I was more interested in patterns. I was intrigued by the cover and thought it might have some interesting things inside, but a quick perusal of the contents soon showed that I wasn't going to be reading this book anytime soon.
This is a great book if you're into handmade jewelry, or looking for some inspiration to start making some! The projects in this book are kitschy, vintage, and unique. Not only does The Naughty Secretary Club have complete projects that you can try out, but it also has tips and tutorials on some essential jewelry-making skills, such as making your own beads. This book is definitely worth a look, even if you're just admiring the pretty pictures. c;
Although I liked this one, I am glad that I didn't purchase it for my own collection because some of the projects were really complicated and needed tools that I don't own. But I love the concept and for those who enjoy going to flea markets and searching for cast-off jewelry, you will really get a kick out of it!
Bought this on a whim. Has some really cute projects in it--most I wouldn't wear now, but I probably would have loved to about 10 years ago when I was in college or even back in high school. Very funky and fun--I love to look at the pictures! Would definitely recommend this for people with a taste for bright, spunky, and super kawaii projects.
This is really far more kitchy than is my style, but the ideas are cool, and some of the techniques, like for using resin, are neat, and I may use them in other things. I found it to be better for inspiration than actual projects, but that's just because it's outside my style.
I like things a little wacky, but I don't really see anyone wearing most of the jewelry featured in this book. It's a fun idea, but for the most part, just not appealing.
