A wonderful book that can still be picked up at a reasonable price.

Two introductions make up the only text. It’s 126 pages of gorgeous 1940s film posters. The paper and printing is good quality, with many of the images taking up a whole page (just the occasional one unfortunately spreading over two pages). I’m contemplating buying another copy to make my own framed prints from – ‘Out of the Past’ and ‘Gilda’ are undeniable works of art.

Of note is the fact that the publishers haven’t always gone with the more familiar images, in fact many are represented by sumptuous images from countries other than the film’s origin. The Italian posters are especially noteworthy.

So many great images here from mostly familiar films, including many a film noir – ‘Laura,’
‘Murder, My Sweet,’
and ‘This Gun For Hire,’ as well as Val Lewton, Universal horror, and Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes films. Also great images of the likes of Rita Hayworth, Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, Veronica Lake, Gene Tierney, Lauren Bacall and Linda Darnell etc.

I have this, as well as the 30s and 50s volumes. All are a pleasure to browse through and are highly recommended.
