Introducing DOODLE ADVENTURES #3! Like The Search for the Slimy Space Slugs! and The Pursuit of the Pesky Pizza Pirate! , The Rise of the Rusty Robo-Cat! marries the fun of drawing and doodling with a lively fantasy tale that will appeal to boys and girls alike. From Mike Lowery—creator of the popular Kid’s Awesome Activity Calendar —it’s like a visual Mad part game, part graphic novel, and a thrilling, interactive experience in which the reader draws him- or herself into the story and becomes the star.
Carl the Duck is back and needs help on the very important mission of discovering why the cats around town are acting like jerks. Can you track them down and break the spell they are under? (And maybe draw a space vampire along the way?)
Each page combines hand-lettered text, delightful illustrations, plus prompts and plenty of space for the reader’s own contributions. The book is sturdy paper over board with high-quality cream paper that’s a pleasure to draw on. Kids will love using their imaginations to complete the story, then reading it over and over again.

The Rise of Rusty Robo-Cat is not entirely the kind of book that kids read. It is intended for early elementary aged for sure-and they will enjoy it, but 'reading' is only half of the fun. This is book #3 in the Doodle Adventures by Mike Lowery. When our then 6 year old read (and did-more on that in a moment) he immediately asked when his next book would come out. Fast forward a year and his latest is out and our son was pumped for the book, still remembered its predecessor and dove into this book immediately. This is part cartooning book, silly story and big scale silliness that is in line with Captain Underpants or Kung Fu Robot. The reading level for Rusty Robo-Cat is more in line with Kung Fu Robot, but the silliness and grand robot spectacle is something that fans of Underpants will enjoy. Robo-Cat does require a degree of artistic creativity. On approximately every other page there are blank portions where readers are asked to draw. Draw something cats like. Draw something wet. Draw something that will trap an evil robot cat and so on are just some of the eager requests that young readers will engage in. It turns out our 7 year old is not an artist. But he did love this book and read it many times, updating his artwork and still has #2 and #3 in the Doodle Adventures in his library. He's actively waiting for #4 too.
