When Heather Shepherd arrives at Amy’s boyfriend’s house, the last thing she expects to find is Kent unconscious and a new murder to solve.
But that’s exactly what happens, and things only get worse when it’s revealed that Amy is the prime suspect and Kent has amnesia. With nothing but her Rhubarb Frosted donuts and her keen sense of adventure, she determines to solve the case before the killer can strike again. But the closer Heather gets to the truth, the worse Amy’s behavior becomes – her paranoia is at an all-time high. And Ryan, her detective husband is adamant that Heather absolutely must not get involved this time because this case is too close to home.
Heather must choose: delve into the donut hole or leave this case as uncooked batter – either way, there’s a mystery to sleuth, and this one is the trickiest so far.
Heather Janke (now Shepherd) has returned from her honeymoon in Italy. She's back to making doughnuts at Donut Delights and enjoying her new married life. She and her new hubby have a double date with her bestie Amy and her boyfriend Kent....but they never make it. When they arrive to pick up Kent, they find him unconscious in his kitchen and tied to a chair. A single rhubarb frosted doughnut sits on a plate in front of him and a note with a lipstick red heart drawn on it. Then Amy starts finding the pink rhubard doughnuts at her house as well.....and one is left on the steps to Heather's house. Who attacked Kent? Heather goes against her husband's wishes and starts investigating. She wants to solve the case before something happens to Amy!
I like this series for the most part. It's light reading. The mysteries are short and fast-paced. And I like the doughnut shop theme (always makes me hungry though -- rhubarb doughnuts! mmmmmm). This particular story isn't one of my favorites. Some of the character names were silly.....like Jed I. Knight and Dusty Carr. Cute, I guess.....but.....nah. I just never really connected with this one. The mystery was lack luster for me. But....the series on the whole is entertaining, light reading.
Rhubarb Frosted Murder is the 10th novella in this series of 60 books. And then there is a spin-off series, Oceanside Cozy Mysteries. I have a lot of reading to do!
Heather is at it again in Book 10 of A Donut Hole Cozy Mystery. Heather and Amy find Kent, Amy's boyfriend unconscious in his home. Well, Amy needs Heathers help to solve this mystery. This time it takes a toll on the newlyweds Heather and Ryan. As well as stressing the relationship of best friends. Another short, quick paced story in this fun series.
Awesome book! I love how real the characters seem. I just wish we get to see more of Ken and Jung. I liked that there wasn't a murder. Having the main character always find dead bodies starts to get old after a while. Good job on this novella.
Though I enjoyed this book, there were a few things that she didn't understand, or get. First off, what did the copy catting of the cyanide in the doughnut's frosting have to do with anything. It was an unnecessary flourish in the story that was never brought back to. Secondly, the use of doughnuts as a way to used to cause tension between Heather and Amy was a little weak. The type of relationship that they have wouldn't have wavered that much, at least not to the point where Amy would accuse Heather of attempted murder. And lastly, Ryan getting so made at the fact that Heather is investigating is a little weird. I mean he did marry her.... He should know that by now. It's a fine book, not the best but not the worst. Hopefully it gets back up to good very quickly. After all, he signed her up for PI courses.

I would recommend this title to all cost mystery readers. There was a conflict is n the main characters relationship that had always bothered me, but that was resolved in this book. I also really enjoyed the character development. I hope everyone loves this book.
An easy read. I liked how the plot unfolded.. Much better than the previous books. And it's also interesting now that there's another layer to Amy's character.
I’m calling time on this series. The scenarios are just so ridiculous and pretty much all the characters have become incredibly unlikeable. What a shame.
I have been a little disappointed in the series ever since Heather got married. However the opening of this book did get right into the action and that is what I love about the book but then it kind of went downhill. I mean I like that fact that Heather is working on a marriage that seems to be in trouble because she is fighting with her husband but what I do not like is the fact that she is so focused on herself that she is putting everything to the back burner. I mean her relationship with her husband, best friend and even her job. I get that sometimes that happens when you are a newlywed but her friend Amy was kind of a jerk.
Honestly after I got married and had children my friends felt the same way about me but on well that is on them. My family will always come first and they need to understand that. I also thought it was childish how Amy was acting and I think that is just wrong on so many levels. I can wait to see what happens in book 11 which I am going to start reading now.
Rhubarb Frosted Murder is the tenth short story in Susan Gillard’s Donut Hole Cozy Mystery series. The characters are well developed and there is an interesting mystery to solve.
Heather Shepherd and her husband, Ryan, are supposed to go on a double date with her best friend, Amy and Amy’s boyfriend, Kent. Heather owns Donut Delights, a gourmet donut shop in Hillside, Texas, and Ryan is a Hillside Police Department Detective. Ryan is running late, so Heather and Amy head over to Kent’s apartment where they find the door locked and no one answering the door. Amy uses her key and when they enter, they discover an unconscious Kent tied to a kitchen chair. Even though Ryan insists Heather stay out of the investigation, she just can’t because her best friend is involved.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
With character names like Dusty Carr, Jed I. Knight, and Honey Trickle, to make you chuckle you could almost forget the attempted murder that Ryan Sheppard and his wife, Heather are investigating. Of course Ryan is official and Heather isn't...yet.
No spoilers just read this addition to an already great series.

This series got off to a good start but now I'm not sure how I feel about it. I have always enjoyed this series as a grab and go book to read while waiting or riding. Husband and wife fights and besties fighting just does not appeal to me. I also dislike reading books with typos, like get it proof read before you put it out there.
I really enjoyed this one. Heather and Ryan are once again in the middle of a murder case. Ryan has tried to get Heather to understand that she just can't get in the middle of a police case. While helping solve this case, Heather and Ryan almost separate and they only just got married. Find out how Ryan comes up with an answer that makes them both happy.
After reading the last 2 I was worried about the series. But this book was great just like they were before the last 2 books. One thing that does bug me is the names that are now being used like Dusty Carr and Honey Trickle.
There is never a normal around Heather. She attracts trouble like a bee to honey. Now that she is home can she leave the mysteries behind. No way especially when her best friend Amy needs her help.
Love the characters. This book puts friendship to the test, and makes it to where u have to keep reading on to the next books. I really enjoy the romance and the solving of problems, in a married relationship. The dog is ever more my favorite, he has me jealous being able to eat each of the heavenly donuts, in every episode. Reading these books is a great way to get away for a while every day.
I recommend this book to older women, who love mysteries, romance, donuts, and dogs. I recommend reading the series in order. Great way to get away for awhile every day.
Will Heather Shepherd, owner of Donut Delights, and newly married to Detective Ryan Shepherd find her marriage in a shambles? Why....because she insists on investigating a case her husband advised her to not get involved. Heather and Ryan were scheduled to double date with Heather's best friend Amy and her boyfriend, Kent. When Ryan gets held up at work, Heather and Amy decide to go to Kent's apartment. When no one answers, Amy see her key to enter and they find Kent tied to a chair unconscious. Who did this and why? Heather finds herself needing to investigate. The donut of the book is the Rhubarb Frosted donut. This is book # 10 in A Donut Hole Cozy Mystery series. It can be read as a stand alone. I volunteered to read this eBook. Thanks to the author for the opportunity. My opinion is my own.
