Clint “The Cowboy” Maddox is a force to be reckoned with. Enforcer for the Sanitini family, the cowboy has known only violence, pain and death. But for a select few he calls “brothers”, Clint feels no love for mankind and believes that “an eye for an eye” is the only true means of retribution. ‘Let the punishment fit the crime’ is his philosophy when dealing with his enemies.

But upon meeting Axel Anders, a frightened and lost young man with a stained soul of his own, Clint’s hard-as-steel exterior begins to crack as he finds himself intrigued by the effect this vulnerable “kid” has on him. Yet when Axel’s presence begins to disturb the ground beneath which Clint’s darkest, most painful memories have lain dormant for over two decades, he begins to understand that the young man poses a greater threat than any flesh and blood enemy –and knows he must put the kid out of his life, or face a resurrected past that he believed to be dead and buried.

But walking away from Axel and not looking back –proves to be a much greater challenge than he is prepared for.

NOTES:
The Cowboy Gangster is an M/M romance series. Though the romance in this series is beautiful, if you are looking for strictly "fluff" romance, you won't find it here. Contains strong adult content.

It's finally over!

I had to buy this whole set, just to get book 5, but for 99 cents, that's okay. I think I've finally read my last Phoenix and related story. I started out with Abel and have read every last one of them. These last ones though, were like a freaking marathon. They've been a guilty pleasure, because really, they are not truly well written books. Entertaining and utterly escapist and the most improbable situations ever.

This one was much like the last, waaay too long and too repetitive. It did manage to get everyone to a happy ending and I guess there's more books to come with some of the newer characters. There's more instalove and magic peen, and condom and lube-free sex. I've never seen so much spit used in my life. Then there's more of the weird dichotomy of rhapsodizing over the power of love and forgiveness and family. Then a bunch go and torture and beat a few men to death in particularly brutal and gruesome fashion. Because some people are very, very bad and too evil to live. Or die quickly.

I like assassin and serial killer stories too, plus I'm an atheist, so none of it bothered me a bit. They're all written too far out of the realm of reality anyway. But these last two were a struggle to get through. The first few stories, starting with "Abel", came in smaller doses, in trilogies and were easier to take. So, I think I'm over my absurd addiction now, and bid a fond farewell

Too sad for me. Too many awful events, child rape, abuse, rape, violence, meanness, and sadness for me. Sorry. I know I'm a minority.
I've read other CJ Bishop books and loved them.

5 stars for the series as a whole (disregarding the minor blip with the last story as far as I'm concerned). Lots of happy endings. Lots of [well deserved] violence towards scum who warranted the viciousness of their punishment and possible (read probable hehe) death...hey, I definitely believe in an eye for an eye, especially for child molesters/sex attackers and rapists and any combination of the above. Just locking them away in solitary confinement is in no way a sufficient punishment as far as I'm concerned, so I liked Clint and Cochise's methods, even if they were gruesome.

Sorry I haven't reviewed before, but every time I checked in on here, this story was conspicuous by its absence. Now here I am reading the last part of Audrey's The Brokenhearted Necklace: Brokenhearted Romance series (in case you still don't know, AM Snead and CJ Bishop are one and the same person) and noticed the details were now posted.

The complete book the cowboy gangster

Oh my goodness, this series is amazing. I read books one to four when they came out but purchased the complete series and started again! C J Bishop writes about men she brings to life. You fall in love with them and want to keep hearing about them. I think I would read anything this women writes in fact i have and I feel the need to go back and visit the boy's. If you love them as much as I do join the newsletter cause what CJ has planned for follow up books sounds amazing

DNF after the first book, which was the longest read I have ever had. Skipped many parts - even the sex parts since most were rape - And I absolutely do not want to read that.
Thank goddess the series was cheap, or I would cry over my lost money.

Have read this series three times now. It is by far my favorite in the Phoenix Club World. I can never get enough of Clint! I fell for him the first time he appeared in the Phoenix Club series. Just something about a cowboy. And the growth of Cochise in this series blew me away. Can't wait to learn more about his dark past and how he came to join the Sanitini Family. He and Kane are so good for each other. I just love how Kane totally gets him in spite of his limited communication. He is truly perfect for Cochise. I want to know his REAL name too!

Back to Clint and Axl though...Their relationship was so satisfying and heartbreaking at the same time. I still cry like a baby even after 3 reads. I wanted to choke Clint a time or two for being so dense! Thank God for Cory/Jimmy and the steadfast Angel!

CJ Bishop does not hold back on any details, good or bad. Her writing is raw and realistic. It is not for the feint of heart when it comes to reading torture and/or rape scenes. This series especially has some of the worst, but it is all in context which makes it a little easier to swallow. A little. That being said, I never feel like rape is treated lightly or carelessly either. It simply is the ugly horrid thing we all know it to be. Fortunately, the Phoenix family holds on tight and supports each other through all life tosses at them.

I can't say I would recommend these books to just anyone, but I do get lost in them and have put CJ Bishop on my auto-buy list. If you don't mind gruesome detail, and you can handle reading rape scenes and brutal torture, there is a lot to love about every series in the Phoenix Club universe. Start with Abel and Caleb to get your feet wet and hang on for a bumpy ride through all the other stories. Lots of love to go around and they do eventually all get a satisfying HEA.

I hated it, but I also really, really loved it.
This author is mean, but if you read any of the other books you already know that. These characters go through so much torment, if I didn't know ahead of time about the HEA I would not have finished. I have several highlights with notations of me yelling obscenities because it made me cry and/or scream in frustration.
Any book that can get a rise out of me like that gets an automatic 5 star, because good writing makes you feel emotions. If the writing was poor, I would not have gotten through this 36 hour read and wanted more. The cast of characters has gotten so large I feel like I need a chart or something, but I love all of them, even the smaller side-character romances. Axel has been my favorite character of all, can't really tell you why, I fell in love with him in the same moment Clint did, when he got the puppy. And the person who he becomes throughout the series is like the best character arc I've ever read.
There are quite a lot of content errors, I noted 18, there were more that I ignored. Why? Because the story was so good I just kept going even though I'm a huge stickler for poor editing. I'm breaking all my rules giving away these 5 stars.
Also, minor complaint, all of this sex just sounds...ouch. No one uses lube and they're always asking to get fucked harder. I mean, it's fictional sex though, so I forgive it for not being super realistic.

M/M. 3.5 stars. Very hard for me to rate this 5 book series (read one after another). Main MC's (Axel, Cowboy, Cochise and Kane) were great to read about, and had a great ending. However, to get to that ending this was a long, long read with lots of peripheral characters to keep track of, seemingly redundant angsty moments over and over again ("I'll always be with you", oops he's gone moments) and some really gruesome home executions of bad guys, each time with a different horrible method. I think we could have read about it one time and that would have been enough.

Also, particularly at the beginning, I felt I had missed out on part of the story, like there was a prior book or something. Some blanks were filled in with flashbacks but there were still holes that I would have liked to read about.

All of the above negative comments should be read also knowing that I wanted to finish the book, maybe skimmed a little here and there, but really, really wanted the MC's to have their HEA's and was so glad at the end that I stuck it out.

While the main story line was good there was far to many sex scenes. If you cut the sex scenes down you would probably end up with two good books instead of five slow moving books.
There where certain scenes that where silly, you would not have a physical therapist taking the lead in performing an operation when you had a veterinary surgeon present. Axel starts martial arts and weight training and has the perfect body in a few weeks that would take around two years to achieve. Both Axel and Cory's recovery are ridiculous. Cory it teaching martial arts a few weeks after been shot and physically assaulted ridiculous. The book states that several of the characters have large or very large cocks and have regular anal sex without lube using just spit this is ridiculous, many of the characters have not had that much anal sex in the past, it would be excessively painful and would lead to bleeding and anal fissures. These are just a few examples.

Great great read.

I absolutely loved reading this series, all the characters are well developed and I love them. I would not change anything about them.

My only issue are the errors, hence the 4stars. If the book was edited I would give it a 5star, but it had so much errors and wrong spellings. CJ you need a better editor for your books. Other than that your writing is marvelous as usual. I thoroughly enjoyed Axel and Clint.

I have to say I read the whole Phoenix series, its amazing!

phew! This is a really really long series. It felt like it took me forever to get through it but in the end I was actually dissapointed there wasn't more. I've somehow managed to read the other books in the series in the wrong order so I can't even go on to enjoy them now. If you put aside all the God references (there are a lot) and the endless number of rapes and just concentrate on the actual couples these books are really enjoyable. The Cowboy has my heart for sure!!

Cowboy gangster love

Yet another great story, this time with Axel and Clint's story. Axel is Angels half brother this is their story it will have you laughing and crying in many places. Some one is trying to hurt the cowboy and this is his fight to keep axel safe by staying away. It brings in clints passed into it. As well as Cochise romance with a vet.
Just a great read the characters have you falling in love with them

3.5 STARS

There are some really dark scenes written in these books. The characters were pretty good and a few developed enough to become attached. The sex scenes had a lot to be desired and there were A LOT of them. The storyline was good. There were a few loose ends that really need to be wrapped up.

Exciting and full of Action

This is the first series that I read from the author. The love story between Axle and Clint was hot. I also enjoyed that the so call bad guys were the heros in the book. This bundle of books were so good I could not put my kindle down. I immediately purchased the reaming book bundles in the series. A must read if you line excitement and action in your books.

🌟 SO GOOD! 🌟

🌟 C J Bishop has created such FANTASTIC characters in her PHOENIX BOYS and COWBOY GANGSTER SERIES! 🌟 If you can handle the violent, graphic parts of these books - both series are definitely worth reading. 🌟 [Yes, there are some errors that could be fixed with some good editing-BUT they shouldn’t keep you from enjoying these wonderful books.]

4.5 rounded down; so many editing errors and words that ran together were a bit distracting. That being said, I loved the stories in this 5-book series. The Cowboy and Cochise have fascinated me since there introduction to the Phoenix Club circle-of-friends. Moving on to Phoenix Wedding.

Wow

Not sure what to say about this book except maybe it’s the most powerful love story ever. The pain and suffering this family had to go through is unspeakable but the love and devotion is awesome

I loved the story line and characters. I don't like torture scenes but they fit in well. I hated the characters I was supposed to hate as they were all really bad guys who did despicable things so the scenes weren't so bad. My only gripe is I got bored with the numerous sex scenes. I wanted more of the authors creative writing and character complexity and less sex-seemed like some chapters were focused on it and it seemed cut n paste. I look forward to reading more CJ books -just hope the sex is a toned down a bit and there is more to the story. I am looking forward to see what happens with Adrian's brother and Blake in a future book in this series.

Buckle up cos your in for a hell of a ride

I thought the previous sets of books were good, they have nothing on these ones. They have everything love, laughter, danger and excitement, most of all friendship. Can't wait to read the rest of the series.
