Seven Ways to Lose Your Heart

Rate this book
In the span of seven days, Annabel Lee will lose her heart.

Kennedy Harrison, as reckless with life as Annabel is obsessed with order, never could commit to anything—not to a person, not to a job, not to a path. But he’s got a history with Annabel, and for once Kennedy doesn’t want to run. Determined to spend time with her before she leaves for college, Kennedy dares her to join him on a road trip to a music festival.

And neither of them could ever say no to a dare.

But Annabel’s got a plan. She’ll complete seven dares in seven days—if Kennedy applies for one writing internship per dare. Because Kennedy needs to be pushed just as much as she does.

What follows is a dizzying week of music, shady hotels, comical dares, and a passion neither one knew existed. But when it ends, Annabel and Kennedy will realize the biggest dare of all might just be falling for each other.

I love it when a book surprises me and this did in the best way possible. I didn't expect all that much from this, simply because I hadn't heard anything about it, but I absolutely loved it. I think this might be one of my favourite new adult books I have read. It was fantastic. I loved the characters and their relationship. The plot had a genuine storyline, which was both fun yet had a lovely depth to it. My only complaint is that the end felt rushed, I wish it had been a bit longer as I was left wanting a little more. I would LOVE a sequel!! This was such a joy to read. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a brilliant new adult read.

This book was soooooo great!! I haven't loved a book as much as I did this in such a long time. Sure there were some books that I liked but I haven't used the word love to describe a book in ages.
Seven Ways to Lose Your Heart was a very pleasant surprise. I loved every single factor in the book. From the writing to the dialogues to the characters. I wasn't displeased with anything in this book. It made me want to do things I never tried. I really wanted to go to a music festival after reading it :D More importantly I guess I loved the relationship of Annabel with her grandmother as it reminds me of my own (but not as fun as theirs)
The characters were all super fun. I really loved every single one. Annabel, Kennedy, Grandma, the twins, Jason, every single one of them. Specially Jason. He was a sweetheart. Then Annabel I saw reason for all what she did. For some reason I connected with that character. She was a super strong girl who tries her best in everything and as grams says she deserves all the happiness. She wasn't perfect but she didn't act like a total ass even. The best part no pointless drama!!!! No stupid love triangle, no bitches on the side trying to ruin everything or ex-boyfriends making huge scenes ( Another mention of super sweet and understanding Jason. He was so cute).

Lastly Kennedy. He was flawed in the most perfect way. His love for Annabel was apparent from the beginning. I love how she saved him when they were small and how he saved her later. Not in the physical sense but emotionally. Every single time their scenes together came I unconsciously smile. It was just too cute.

Then the writing, that too was super nicely done. The story wasn't boring but neither was it fast-paced. It was perfect for me (Emphasise "FOR ME"). Others may have different opinions but I loved this book. I would love to see a sequel for their story. I would definitely keep an eye out for this author cuz she's definitely my type of author :D Thank you so much Netgalley for the ARC.

Seven Ways to Lose Your Heart is simply put a great cute & fluffy.
If you wanna know why I read NA romances, this would sum up exactly well.

It's well written, witty and has a fabulous storyline but first and foremost the character building is fabulous!

This is the first novel I read by Tiffany Truitt. In fact this is her first NA novel. I fell in love with her beautiful descriptions and I love her prose- so I am hoping she will be writing many more NA novels in the near future

In the beginning I was actually worried I wasn't going to like the story line. I thought there would be a terrible love triangle but I didn't mind the little bit of triangling going on. And since I totally loathe them this simply shows how well it was written. It also had a lot to do with the character building, which I will discuss later. They end up going on a road trip, taking photos and going to concerts- see why I liked it? It's the pinnacle of what I adore. I am a total music lover, photographer and eternal nomad. Truitt basically threw my favorite things into the thick, because there are books as well... Then there are the past and present threads that are woven together, which explains their rift and also makes one understand current issues.
A cute and enticing rollercoaster with great elements and depth. Great storyline

As I said before all of this though was held up by the character building. The story is told from the POV of Annabel and Kennedy. Both voices are distinctive. And through it we get to know both MCs very well. I could relate to both of them. Found both exasperating at time yet adore them as well. At the end of the book I felt like I knew them. This extened to th support cast. Each one is unique, multilayered and I felt like I got where they were coming from and who they were.
The chemistry between Annabel and Kennedy is tangible and their closeness felt real, more in fact. It felt right and inevitable.
Brilliantly done and all of it was shining through the different relationships both MCs have with other people. It was my absolute favorite part of the book, all the different relationships their intricacies. It's so well done, which makes it an absolute pleasure to read.

A must read!

It is a decade since life changed dramatically for Annabel Lee. That was when she was involved in an accident in which her beloved older brother was killed and she was seriously burned. It is also when she lost her best friend, Kennedy Harrison, who disappeared from her, leaving her heart broken. Life became like a jigsaw, all broken up and with crucial pieces missing. Now he's in the same photography class with her and suddenly starts talking to her again. They used to dare each other, provoking each other out of their comfort zone, ensuring they lived life to the full. Since the accident, Annabel Lee has been OCD about planning and order, a rule keeper whilst Kennedy is her antithesis, a rule breaker and risk taker. As the two reconnect, the dares restart and so much more, do they stand a chance of rebuilding the jigsaw to create a new picture of life together?

This story explores rekindling childhood friendships torn apart by trauma and fear. It is about facing up and taking life by the horns, being prepared to take a chance on new opportunities whilst being willing to fail, knowing that things don't always work out but that when they do, they are so worth it! The story takes the characters through the whole gamut of emotions on a roller coaster ride towards their potential HEA. Told from alternating points of view, it is easy to empathise with the characters and keep hoping that things will work out for them. It is an angst filled new adult read that I enjoyed reading and think others will, too.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley, too, for providing me with an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Rounding up to 3 stars.

“Temporarily, I forget about everything before this moment. The reasons I shouldn’t be talking to this boy. It’s the first honest conversation I’ve had in forever.”

Seven Ways to Lose Your Heart follows the story of Kennedy and Annabel. Kennedy and Annabel were best friends for as long as they could remember…that is until Annabel is involved in a life changing accident. Her accident and brush with death, shakes him to his core and causes him to make a terrible decision. It will be ten years before Kennedy will be brave enough to face Annabel again and set the record straight….Annabel doesn’t know what to think when Kennedy tries to re-enter her life. The loss of their friendship, destroyed her and she has a big wall around her heart. However, little by little, Kennedy worms his way back into her life. What started off as a dare, will quickly blur the lines of friendship and the underlying passion between Kennedy and Annabel will come to a boil. Only time will tell what fate has in store for these two lovers…

Overall, I thought this book was an ok read. I loved the cover and was intrigued by the synopsis. I thought the story was well paced and was a quick read. I liked the characters and as always, I’m a sucker for friends to lovers/second chance romances. I liked the idea of the story and thought that there was some good steam and swoon worthy moments.

However, I did have one major issue with this story and it was the way the characters were written. While I liked them, I felt like they were written a lot younger than they really were. At times, I would forget that they were college aged/on their way to college. I would find myself thinking “How old are they again?” or “I thought they weren’t in high school.”–It felt at times like I was reading a YA book instead of a NA one. I read a lot of NA and Contemporary Romance novels, so I truly think that there is a lot of potential there, it just didn’t come across the right way.

Seven Ways to Lose Your Heart is a quick and easy read. It’s a cute friends to lovers/ second chance romance. I am rounding this book up to three stars because even though this book wasn’t a hit for me, I think that the author has a ton of potential in this genre and I would be open to reading more from her in the future.

Oops, I totally forgot to reveal the review on the release date. Heh, sorry!

Okay, here goes.

I requested this book for its interesting title and the blurb that has a word 'dare' in it. Sadly, the dares didn't start at the first 50% of the book and I turned disinterest. I started skimming and only read parts when I felt them important.

Glad the book turned out fun to read after 50%. I enjoyed the dares both Annabel and Kennedy threw at each other. I felt connected to them as I slowly learnt their personalities as the story progressed.

The joy and the angst, the happiness and sorrow in the mix and boy, that was a lot of absorbed. Resulted me in emotionally exhaustion even after I finished the book. Overall, it was a good read!

Was Seven Ways to Lose Your Heart a bad book? Absolutely not. Did I enjoy it? Well, not especially. But I didn't dislike it either. It was a quick and easy read but I didn't really feel anything for the characters or story at all. I basically have no real opinion about this one. I read it and now I'm moving on.

Sweet and romantic?
He abandoned her after the accident she lost her brother and got burned. "Poor" guy, his mother left.
He hooked up with other girls and I assume the h was shy, coz she had scars.
Hell no!
Child or not, he abandoned her as she needed him, had sex with OW and now I should buy their sudden love?
If he was an a$$hole as a teen, he wouldn't magically transfer to a Prince Charming within a couple of years.
Too cruel for NA.

This was a cute story, I loved the back story but I had a few issues with it.

We have Annabel and Kennedy who used to be nest friends as kids, until something happens and Kennedy bails. Which he regrets. Now it's 10 years later and he wants to fix it.

I liked how they pushed and challenged each other.

I loved the dynamics of their friendship as kids. Their history was great.
But I felt like things happened a bit too easily, Annabel didn't resist enough. And they hang out in the guise of friendship but they don't really seem to become friends, it sort of goes straight to more.
And don't even get me started on the Jason of it all. That makes it sound like something scandalous happened. Which is practically the opposite. He's barely mentioned, and Annabel forgets about him the second they break up. They were together for four years and that's it? No tears? No heartache? I understand that they fell out of love, but they still cared about each other so I would have expected deeper emotion regarding this.

And that was actually my whole problem with the book - a lot of it was just too superficial. And easy. And quick.
Besides some cussing and sexy scenes, it felt a lot more like a YA book to me.

My favourite thing about this book? Grams. Man I wish I had such a cool gran!!

This book was so sweet! A perfect summer contemporary full of love and it even has a road trip!!!!

I loved both the main characters! Kennedy was rough and kind of snarky. He is the type of guy that is never lonely and always has candy on his arm. (if ya know what I mean?) Annabel use to be that way too, I mean who do you think taught Kennedy? But, she had a huge tragedy in her family and it made her change her ways. She now has a plan for her life and nothing will stray her from that plan.

It really helped that the book was written in alternating POV's. We get to know both characters a little better and really can get a picture of the true story. The whole idea of seven dares was awesome and I could not wait to see what Kennedy would make Annabel do next.

My favorite part would definitely be the road trip! Who doesn't love a road trip to a music festival? I liked that Annabel "let loose" if just for a little while.

The ending was great and perfectly wrapped up! Thank you to the publisher for the review copy in exchange of an honest review!

DISCLAIMER: I received an e-galley of this book (via NetGalley) in exchange for honest review. Took me damn long enough, but I finally read it.

Firstly, this book has been sitting in my TBR (aka my e-reader) for much too long. I don't know why I didn't devour it within the first couple of days that I had it, but I think it was because I had a ton of other books I was trying to get to.

I cannot even begin to contain my excitement and distress. Excitement because this book is was awesome! Distress because it ended too soon!

This story was amazing. I loved it so much. From the moment I read that the two characters were childhood best friends, I was hooked. Best friends turned lovers are my favorite, but this is more than that. This story involves lost friendship. Its about not being afraid to take risk to be happy.

Kennedy Harrison and Annabel Lee are definitely my new OTP.

A very enjoyable NA read from a new to me author. The overall premise of the story was excellent and I really loved the MC's Annabel Lee and Kennedy. The writing was good but there were times when I didn't think the story flowed as well as it could have.

Annabel Lee and Kennedy were childhood friends until a horrible accident changed everything. As a 10 year old boy Kennedy had already lost so much losing Annabel Lee wasn't something he could face so they spend the next eight years estranged. Now she's about to leave for college and Kennedy can't bear for her to leave with the way things are. So they make a deal. One roadtrip, seven dares, and a wild music festival to say goodbye. If they can that is!

An excellent read and definitely one I would recommend.

Ms. Truitt gave us a heartwarming story of friendship with dares. Annabel and Kennedy were friends then I think Kennedy didn’t know how to deal with the pain of what Annabel had or was going through so he backed away. I found this to be a cute storyline with a fun loving couple that you can’t help but like.

I loved the banter between these two at the beginning. It shows that no matter what you go through in life true friends always have a way of picking up where you left off. I didn’t like how Annabel’s parents seemed so self-absorbed in themselves that they kind of left her to pick up the pieces at home. But none the less it made her a strong person. She seemed a little unrealistic at times but still easy enough to relate to.

I would have enjoyed a little more of grandma in the story. It seems as if we just get to know her and love her and she is taken away. But she did get the last word in so to speak. She was a wise woman and knew just what Annabel needed even when she didn’t know herself. A little nudge in the right direction…

Kennedy was written very realistically because he is just like the majority of guys. A tragedy happens…not knowing how to handle their feelings they find it easier to just run away. He also realized that he would always love Annabel and when given the second chance because of grandma’s gentle nudge he used old childish games to win her/Annabel back.  I found his childish games endearing and for this story it worked.  Annabel wanted more for Kennedy and Vice versa. The dares just made it a little more interesting. It also added to the element of fun within their relationship.

The music festival was an added bonus to the storyline but I didn’t quite get it. This is a fun, fast summer read. I think this makes a perfect companion for your favorite choice of beverage and a little me time. I will warn you that it keeps you entertained so you may find that you keep turning the pages till you finish the story.

This was absolutely wonderful! I loved the relationship between Annabelle and Kennedy. They meet as children when Kennedy, the shy introvert, is the new boy at school and Annabelle Lee is the bold confident hell raiser. 'I dare you' becomes their mantra until a tragic accident occurs and they don't speak for a decade. This book is really about discovering who they were, who they are and who they want to be, and I loved it! There is chemistry, humour and pathos in abundance and for me it worked on every level! It is a brilliant representation of what New Adult writing can be and I highly recommend it!

As is often the case with books written by new-to-me authors, it was the cover that first caught my attention here with Seven Ways to Lose Your Heart. The way they're gripping each other. The need it signifies. It looked like it would be right up my alley. Once I read the blurb I realized it definitely was. I mean, first off: road trip. For that alone, you might just as well write "Kim, this book is for you" on that gorgeous cover. Add to that their history as friends and then... not... and it's even that much more perfect for me.

I found it ridiculously easy to relate to Annabel. It was more than just her attitude and obsessive streak, though. I loved that she was a photographer. I know what it's like to see the world through a different set of eyes when you're looking through the lens of a camera and I understand how easy it is to get lost in that world. I know how photography can take over your world and leave little time for other things. I've been there. Not quite nearly in the situation she was facing, thankfully, but this knowledge made it easy to understand her and her need to NOT get lost in all this again as time with her grandmother was ticking down. My heart broke for her with the things she'd dealt with in the past and, again, with knowing she was in danger of losing someone very close to her once again. But, even with all that, I wanted her to find a way to make some time for herself. Let loose a little. Have some fun.

Be warned, there is a bit of a triangle in this book. But honestly, it barely hit my radar. Once Kennedy and Annabel found themselves in each others lives again, the other guy (whose name I have literally forgotten at this point) really ceased to matter to me. Don't get me wrong, he played an important part in Annabel's life after her accident all those years ago, but he wasn't Kennedy. He was a sweet guy, but he wasn't even on the same level as Kennedy, IMHO. Now, Kennedy definitely made mistakes as a kid, but he was super sweet and swoony here. I loved reading along as he and Annabel were reunited. What they had wasn't exactly first love, but it was certainly heading that way. I hate that they wasted all this time apart, but ... I guess in a way that also made it that much sweeter here.

I loved the road trip and the dares. Actually, everything about the story worked for me. I was totally sucked in and didn't want to put the book down once I started. As much as I adored Annabel and Kennedy – which I really did – I found myself really liking the secondary characters, too. Of course, Grandma was wise and funny and I liked how she gave Annabel the kick in the seat of the pants that she so greatly needed.

Seven Ways to Lose Your Heart was a great introduction to Tiffany Truitt's books. It was a quick read with plenty of humor, heart and even a fair few sexy times.I got hit with a pretty decent dose of feels along the way, too. I liked how each of the characters grew and developed during this book. All in all, this was a great new adult contemporary romance. I'll definitely be looking for more from this author in the future!

FAVORITE QUOTES

There's a beauty to discovering something no one else will ever search for because they don't know it's there to find.

When I took pictures, I lost track of time. And if there's one thing I learned from life, it's that every second counts. I have too many responsibilities to tend to and too many goals to reach to give in to the magic that taking photos created. There wasn't enough time to waste time.

"You keep making me remember what life was before. Who I was back then. Maybe it's time you remember who you were, too. Stop being so scared of putting yourself out there."

I'm finished. Done. Destroyed by this girl. And I'd let her destroy me over and over again if she wanted to.

"You are made up of the stuff people write songs about."

The not knowing is a little bit exciting. Like a dare. Like losing your compass on the open sea and not giving a damn if you ever saw land again.

It isn't pretty or easy, but it made us who we are today. The scars would always be there. Both those left by the accident and the ones left by our separation, but I didn't die in that car, and neither did our future.

With a tagline like "Seven Dares. Seven Days. And the road trip of a lifetime." how could I truly resist Seven Ways to Lose Your Heart? The answer: I couldn't. I love books involving road trips (Amy & Roger's Epic Detour, Two Way Street, Right of Way, etc.) and to throw in dares on top of that, I was in contemporary book heaven!

As it turns out, I flat out LOVED Tiffany Truitt's Seven Ways to Lose Your Heart. Basically, this book is a contemporary romance fan's ideal book. Containing steamy romance, stubborn and feisty main characters, and a road trip that seriously made me want to pack my bags and head to the nearest music festival, Seven Ways to Lose Your Heart had me hooked from the first word until the very last.

When Annabel and Kennedy were little, they were the dynamic duo - the two kids that everyone (students, parents, teachers) was slightly terrified off. Pulling off terrible, twisty dares, Annabel was the reckless one while Kennedy was the voice of reason, bringing Annabel back from the edge more than once. Everything changed, though, the moment tragedy shook Annabel's life. Suddenly Annabel became afraid to live, the uttermost rule follower, and Kennedy, the boy who always had her heart, ran the other way, never looking back. Now at twenty, Annabel is understandably shocked the day Kennedy beeps at her on the road...he hasn't so much as looked at her in years so why the big change now? Before she can fully comprehend it, Kennedy is full force back in her life, and when he offers her the chance to go a road trip of epic proportions, Annabel can't say no - finally she wants to take a risk, take the unknown road. What she - and Kennedy - don't realize is that this road trip is going to alter their lives forever all thanks to a new series of dares and a growing bond that even they can't deny...

I loved a lot about this book; however, the aspect I loved the most was the chemistry between Annabel and Kennedy. From the moment they first interact on page, you simply can't deny that there's a connection there - a strong one at that. Kennedy is the risk taker, the one who isn't afraid to risk being annoying to get what he utterly wants: Annabel's friendship. Annabel is serious and rather steadfast, devoting her energy to her family and her boyfriend. However, there still is a part of her under the surface that is feisty and stubborn.

I really enjoyed watching Annabel inspire Kennedy to put his future first, to realize that he can be talented and successful and Kennedy inspire Annabel to take a risk again, to not be afraid to live. Seeing how much they cared about the other's wellbeing made their relationship much more realistic and believable. Also, the little sparring matches that occasionally occurred because of rising tensions became one of my favorite parts of the book as well - the fights always tended to be much more comical than serious, thankfully!

The plot of this book followed the typical romance novel pattern, but I loved it nonetheless. The dares and music festival really managed to spice up the typical romance tale and make it unique. I felt that the dares were not only well timed but also worked in with the overall story quite well. As for the music festival, Tiffany's descriptions of the event as well as the road trip leading up to it always made me feel like I was right there with the characters. I especially enjoyed how she intertwined popular musical acts into it.

Seven Ways to Lose Your Heart is simply amazing - so great in fact that I'm having such a hard time writing this review in a way that every sentence doesn't start with "I loved..." So to sum it up...if you love contemporary romance...or a good road trip book filled with romance and dares...give this book a chance. I truly think you'll enjoy it, love it even! All I know is I can't wait to read more by Tiffany!

My first book by this author but definitely not my last!

There was a lot to like about Seven Ways to Lose Your Heart. It's a best-friends-to-no-longer-friends-to-lovers story. There's dares and double-dog dares, an awesome road trip, twin toddler terrors, and a grandma who swears in many languages. The main character's name comes from the poem, and her older brother gave it to her because it was his favorite--how cute is that? A children's book and a dare brought Kennedy and Annabel Lee together back in third grade, and the adult Kennedy now lives above the shop of the third grade teacher who inadvertently (or was it?) brought the two of them together.

So much cuteness.

Actually, the timeline of their relationship totally reminded me of Harry and Sally's in When Harry Met Sally:
Harry: We became friends.

Sally: We were friends for a long time.

Harry: And then we weren't.

Sally: And then we fell in love.
That. Just, you know, subtract a dozen years or so from the main characters' ages and put the road trip at the opposite end of things...

Annabel and Kennedy engage in some truly funny and clever banter, and I liked how even though they'd been apart for so long (ten years) they each are still able pick up on the things that make the other one special; important aspects of them that they are not even aware of themselves. The way in which Ms. Truitt used their dares to help them to break free of their (mostly self-imposed) limitations was great. I loved how their shared past gave them so much to build their future on, and the way in which Kennedy's writing brings them together in the end. (Especially the epilogue! So. Darn. Adorable!)

And LOL to Gran's use of a political flyer to get her message to Annabel. Perfect! ;)

There was a lot to like about this book, and its interesting characters, overall fun quirkiness, and awesome epilogue more than made up for a slowish start and quickish reconciliation.

(Interesting fact: the Kindle robotic reading voice knows how to pronounce "Kanye" correctly but not "abs" (it pronounces the letters individually and quickly). I know this, because I listened to part of this book while driving to work today and Kennedy says Kanye A LOT. It was kind of cute and definitely unique, but also kind of annoying--especially when he was giving him the power of creation, as in "the sweetest mouth Kanye ever created.")

Here's hoping Ms. Truiit's first new adult book won't be her last!

This book disappointed me a little as I high hopes for this one. The story was predictable but it could have taken a totally different turn but unfortunately it didn’t but I can’t totally say I didn’t enjoy it because it had its moments!

Annabel, the dare queen became a control freak after an accident changed her life. Kennedy was her partners in crime since they were kids but after the accident, he stopped being friends with her. But now, he realises his mistake and wants her back in his life. He knows he can get her back through the only way, by throwing a dare toward her but the new Annabel is quite different from the one he knew. Would he be able to get her back or is it already too late?

The plot had potential but it did let me down in some ways. Annabel and Kennedy were friends and partners in crime since their childhood but after a particular accident left Annabel scarred and killed her brother, she changed. She became more controlled. And Kennedy withdrew from her. It had been years since they have actually talked but Kennedy desperately wants her back in his life and he is ready to do anything for it. I liked the idea for the dare, Kennedy would take her on a road trip to a music festival and there for be 7 dares and for each dare he has to submit his writing. The dares were pretty funny sometimes and sometimes edgy but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Annabel was a likable character. Although she became a control freak but she was fiercely protective of the ones she loved, especially her grandmother and I liked her relationship with her. I liked Kennedy, he understood his mistake and did everything under his power to redeem himself but the resolve was too quick and the ending kind of felt rushed. Also, another downfall was that I wasn’t invested in the characters that much, therefore I didn’t enjoy the romance much.

Overall, Seven Ways to Lose Your Heart was an okay read! The plot was different yet predictable and the characters failed to hold my interest. But there were some parts of the story that I really enjoyed. The writing was smooth and easy to read and the pace was even throughout the book.

Recommend it?

Maybe.

"Fate doesn't care about plans. What's meant to be will always find a way."

Kennedy and Annabel grew up together and they were best friends. Annabel was involved in an accident where she lost a loved one. When Kennedy saw her after the accident, he was frightened of losing her, therefore he ran. Everyone who was close to him has left.

Ten years later and Kennedy works in constructions and writes for a music blog. Being a stranger in a small town puts him at a disadvantage. His background is frowned upon and because everybody thinks he is no good, he just cruises along. Let them talk, taking notice of their back biting will only make him miserable. He has earned himself a reputation with the ladies amongst other things.

Annabel has taken a year out from college but she attends phototography classes. Everything in her life is planned. Jason is her steady boyfriend. He is always there and he is safe. This fits in nicely with her plans.

Kennedy attends the same photography class as Annabel and he is now ready to have his friend back. Finding a way to get Annabel to trust him after ten long years is not going to be easy. When they finally start talking to each other, they realise how much they miss each other and their dares. Kennedy comes up with the perfect solution. Convince Annabel to go on a road trip with him to attend a concert. Of course, this has to involve some dares and the fun begins.

The connection between them hasn't waned and Annabel finds herself having fun whilst trying to stick to her plans. During that trip, they realise that there is more to their friendship but they are complete opposites to each other. Kennedy doesn't believe he has any talents whereas Annabel has her future planned. When they decide to take their relationship to the next level, something else happens, upsetting the progress they have made.

The story is beautifully written. I like the way Annabel and Kennedy own up to their flaws and help each other in the process. Their interactions are intoxicating even when they argue. Jason is very understanding. As for Grams, she is a real darling and is also a force to be reckoned with. The way Kennedy and Annabel support and encourage each other is wonderful.

This novel is well paced and has a bit of everything. Love, loss, grief, fun, laughter, understanding, acceptance and compromise. It's also very well balanced. The epilogue wraps everything up nicely.

I received an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Okay, this book was just so cute. It was exactly what I needed after a steady stream of books that were just okay.

Kennedy and Annabel Lee used to be best friends, practically inseparable throughout their childhood. Always daring each other to be bigger and better and braver than everyone else. But then Annabel was in an awful car accident. Her brother died. She escaped, but with emotional and physical scars. Kennedy was nowhere to be found when she needed him the most.

It's now a decade later. Annabel is taking care of her parents, her sick grandmother, and her two younger siblings. If she can manage to put herself first for once, she'll leave for college in a few weeks. In the meantime, she and Kennedy have found themselves in the same photography class at the local community college. Years of separation have made things awkward, but Kennedy desperately wants to apologize for how he treated Annabel all those years ago.

I thought this book could go one of two ways. It could either be my favorite book of the year, or it could be trite, cheesy, and awful. I think it's pretty obvious from my glowing five-star rating which one it ended up being.

I love books about childhood friends. I love books about people reconnecting. I love books that are cute and don't have love triangles or cheating or unnecessary drama. And that's the thing. This book is everything I love wrapped up in a cute story about childhood friends who reconnect on a road trip to a music festival.

It happens fast. But not too fast. Realistically fast, I think. Because it seemed to me that, even if she didn't know it, Annabel was waiting all those years for Kennedy to come back to her. And Kennedy was waiting for his opportunity to apologize.

I loved their dares and their honesty and how open they were with each other. My laptop's grammar check thinks that I mean "I loved their dates," but no, I really do mean their dares. Because this book is based on Annabel and Kennedy's deal that she'll let him dare her to do seven things if he applies to seven writing internships. Because dares have always been their thing. And through those seven dares, they end up closer than ever. They make each other better.

I loved this book so much, and I can't wait to see more from this author.

This is an NA romance starring Kennedy and Annabel. The two were best friends until Annabel was in a terrible car accident, and Kennedy, being 10, didn't handle the situation properly. He abandoned her, and that was the end of their friendship -- until one morning, when he honks his horn at Annabel. Something made Kennedy initiate this "communication" between the two, and it grows and grows as the story progresses. This friendship was born from a dare, and it is mended with a dare.
It wasn't the accident that changed my world, it was not having you in it.

I really liked the concept - best friends who grew apart, but realized they were better together. I am a sucker for friends to lovers story, and bonus, it's sort of a second chance romance too. The journey back to each other was quite fun, with the record store, break in, road trip, and music festival. When I was 20, I would have been right there with them.

I really liked Kennedy. He was not perfect, in fact, he was quite flawed, but he did everything with good intentions. He wanted the pre-accident Annabel back. That fun, fearless girl, who would get him into heaps of trouble. As the story progresses, he realizes that some of that girl is still there, but she has changed too, and he accepts some of this new Annabel. He accepts that her experiences have changed her, and he wants to grow with her.
I just wanted my friend back, and then I realized that friend was amazing and hot and all the things that musicians write power ballads about.

Overall: cute and fluffy fun romance with hijinks and witty characters and lots of heart.

Seven Ways to Lose Your Heart was such a fun read. I was hooked from the very first chapter. The story line was what drew me to the book. I loved the idea of Annabel going out of her element and forcing Kennedy to do the same. Annabel and Kennedy were so different, but share a recklessness that Annabel doesn't give into often. I loved how their relationship grew and how they were able to help each other deal with their pasts and move on with their lives. They were great complements to each other and that showed in how they interacted. I thoroughly enjoyed the witty banter between them, and Kennedy's dares made for some interesting and funny moments.
The romance between Kennedy and Annabel is believable. Nothing happened fast. There was no insta-love. Kennedy had to work to get Annabel's trust back, and Annabel had to allow herself to trust Kennedy again. I loved watching their relationship grow and to watch them grow as individuals and really come into their own together and a part. The ending gave the sense of where Annabel and Kennedy's lives are going and left me feeling satisfied. Nothing about it was forced or felt unfinished.
Overall, this was just a fun, quick read that I know I will be re-reading soon. I just wish it was a bit longer because by the end I wasn't ready to let go of Annabel and Kennedy just yet!

Moving and sensitive Seven Ways to Lose Your Heart by Tiffany Truitt was a genuine and well written book. A Young Adult work, this story maintained a youthful feel and was able to show that while its characters were traversing new life territory they were in fact adults. With more than its share of problematic subject matter and events Ms. Truitt kept the story focused and expressed beautifully the mending of a meaningful friendship as it moved to the next stage of its development. Exploration, confrontation and cleansing of past hurts bring the hero and heroine to a powerful reunion. Humor and sadness trade off as the audience is taken on dates that are not dates, road trips and significant personal discoveries to find the ultimate prize, a wonderful story!

4.5 STARS

This book is about 2 friends who keep daring each other from childhood. When Annabel was in an accident with her brother in which he died a Annabel suffered burns on her back but was saved. Kennedy being afraid to loose another person he loves moves out of her life of which Annabel was angry with him and life in general and became a control freak.
Kennedy returns in her life and he dares her to come to a music festival with him.
On this road trip they dare each other, a person dies, old flames light up, people come together and fall in love.

I liked the story. Nicely written.

I was excited for the cover and the premise, but the early interactions between Kennedy and Annabel felt forced, and therefore I had a hard time getting into the story. Once they hit the road for the music festival, however, they really began to spark. Tropes galore, sexy interludes, and fun adventures really brought the characters to life in the second half, and I really started to enjoy their chemistry.

Probably more like a 3.5, but I couldn't get over the slow beginning and the overuse of Kanye's name in vain.

I found myself having a hard time with this book, with an incredibly intriguing idea for a story line I had some really high expectations that didn't quite get met-- a second chance romance our hero and heroine rekindle their passion, friendship and artistic streaks from remembering the past and trying to move on from the hurts that happened after a tragic accident. I had a hard time connecting with the story, I don't know if it was cause of a writing style issue, or the main characters ages and what they were dealing with, I was having a hard time relating to it x All in all though, great idea, sweet story I will absolutely try reading it a second time x

This book was soooo good and the whole storyline was very clever.! Annabel and Kennedy were a great couple and I rooted for them until the end. I haven't read a lot of YA books lately, so it was a nice change of pace. I lost my heart seven different ways from start to finish!
