I love Heyman's work, and it's sad that this was her only "claim to fame." Her handwritten notes between photographs link feminist ideology with Heyman's shots of everyday women. This book really embodies 70s-wave feminism.
Came across this by chance at the library. It may not be a groundbreaking feminist work, but it is an interesting look at one woman's progress towards a feminist consciousness in the mid-20th century. The thing that strikes me, is that many of her statements are still true today. There have been many changes, some of them very good, but the truth of the matter is, our society still values men more than women. Perhaps a round of revamped "consciousness-raising" groups is in order for a new generation.
